No. I tried a Note 1 when it was new. Played with it at store, appreciated the large (5.3 I think) screen for movies and apps. Then put it up to my face for a phone call and felt instantly stupid. Then tried to stick it in my pocket and it would fit at all. Then tried to use one handed and I dropped it. It didn't break but ATT rep wasn't happy.

A 5.5 may be right for some people, but not me. The 5.5 iPhone will be bigger then the Note 1 and I won't try the 5.5 since the Note 1 was tobig

I'm starting to come around to the idea of a 5.5" phone. But I think to do so I have to rid my mind of the whole phone/tablet dichotomy and just accept that maybe I only need one mobile device to serve as everything for my mobile needs. I think part of the reason I dismissed the 5.5 is because I can't use it easily one handed. But if I treat it like a smaller iPad mini, that expectation no longer holds as tablets are almost never used one handed. And I can definitely see how a bigger screen (compared to the 5s) would be useful.

I dont think the problem is the 5.5 inch screen. The problem is the ridiculously thick bezels that apple insist to put in its mobile devices.

I currently have a Galaxy S3 with a 4.7 inch screen. I think that this is a good size.

This week, when walking around a tech store, I've seen the new LG G3 flagship, with a 5.5 inch screen. In the hands it feels great, the screen is amazing and bezels are super thin. Placing my GS3 over it (which already has slimmer bezels than the 5/5s) I could see that it is just a little bit higher.

And in fact it is:

GS3 -> 136.6 x 70.6 mm (5.38 x 2.78 in)
LG G3 -> 146.3 x 74.6 mm (5.76 x 2.94 in)

It is great! I would love to upgrade to a 5.5 in screen for just plus 10mm (0.27 in) and a 0.8 in bigger screen!!

However, apple insists in its big ugly bezels, and the iPhone 6 mockups have the following sizes:

IP 4.7'' -> 138 x 67 mm (5.43 x 2.64 in)
IP 5.5'' -> 157 x 81 mm (6.18 x 3.19 in)

The 5.5 (if its real) will be ridiculously big, with more 11 x 7 mm (0.43 x 0.28 in) than the LG G3, for the same screen size.

This is the problem, I think that few people would buy this one after holding it in hands.

Best just to leave them alone. Steve told them the small phones are the perfect size as apple was not ready to make bigger ones and he's dead now so he can't tell them it was all just to sell phones at the time, it doesn't apply any more.

Seriously, people should get what they prefer.

Making big phones is easy. Apple makes iPads, for crying out loud. Big isn't a problem, never has been.

The reluctance to go large is that there is such a thing as too big when it comes to devices that are often operated with one hand. I adore the 4" form factor and am somewhat upset it's going to be getting larger -- I just hope I can continue to operate it as smoothly with one hand as I do now.

That is the reason why iPhones are the size they are, not because its hard to make them large. It's easier to make them large.

My "giving it a chance" will be going from 3.5 to 4.7 when my 4s finally gives up the ghost, as it looks like I'll have no other options. That said, while I have no choice but to give a larger phone a try, if I miss the old form factor, I don't have any options but to "deal with it". :(

Why though?

How can you be so sure?

You've never had one before. A large iPhone hasn't even existed yet--how can you possibly know with such certainty you wouldn't fall in love with it and the gorgeous eye candy it will no doubt present us with?

Don't you feel the least bit curious of what it would be like to own one??
The physical aspects of the phone are what put me off. The screen size might be amazing to use but when you have to carry the device in jeans/trouser pockets and often find yourself needing to use it one handed on public transport, it is totally impractical for some people.

I'm pretty sure without seeing the 'alleged' iPhone 6 5.5", I can judge the device will be similar in size to the Galaxy Note. We know it can't be smaller than the screen allows! lol. If the 4.7" is a reality then it will be my choice for these reasons and no doubt it will be the more popular of the two. Both have a market however.

I've actually seen a lot of people on public transport use their Galaxy S and Note without any issues. Yes, it takes two hands, but then they're usually sitting down or propped up against something.

I'm still on the fence about this, but definitely curious to see how an Apple phablet feels.

I'm sure people do use them one handed but I know from experience I would struggle performing the same tasks on a phone the size of a Note. If the device is physically bigger, it's obviously going to be harder to use with one hand.

For all the people who see larger screen phones out there and think, "yuck, thats just way too big!"

or

"3.5/4 is good enough for me and my hands."

Why not just give it a try one time?

Give it a whirl one year and see what happens...

I don't mean like a time you tried your friends device and it felt weird; I mean like actually OWNING one for a sustained period of time.

You can always return it and get the 4.7, but give yourself a chance to get acclimated with it, even if you thought you would be bothered by this or that. Have an open approach to it and you may find some benefits that you love!

Or you might change the way you use it and what you use it for and when. What about those little cases too--that make it like a small mini iPad or planner. You know, its OK that your hands are small because your hands don't have to "swallow" the whole phone; you can just hold it and use it in various sizes and positions.

What about just finally watching a few Youtube videos or Netflix episodes and enjoying the graphics or eye candy. Maybe download some nice new games even though you don't play them much, just to see the new screen and the new OS in its biggest, boldest form yet.

I know I for one am excited!! You never know for sure until you try one!

Give it a chance!!! :)
Why should I? Why do you care what others like and don't like? It's not as if there's one true size for a phone. I've seen the Galaxy S5 and it's far bigger than *I* want. But I have an iPad mini retina and I carry my iPhone 5 in my pocket and like the 4" size. If you or others prefer the 5.5" that's fine... use what you like and don't worry about what others do and what they like.

What do you do on your phone to make the screen size more important than whether it fits in your pocket?

Because the "does not fit in pocket" comes at around the 7-8" mark if we're talking 16:9, slim bezeled phones.

----------

Lol at your "levels" man.

5.5" is too big to fit in most people's pockets. That jumps from "easily" to "difficult."

No, it isn't. You'd have to search long and hard to find pockets that can't fit a 5.5" phone. Uber-tight douchebag jeans or PVC-pants, yea, you might have a problem with those. And shirt pockets are a stretch, but to be honest, most of my shirts can't even hold the iPhone 5 very well.

I resent the douchebag jeans comment. I think we can do without the name calling. :rolleyes: None of my pants can fit a 5.5" phone. In fairness, they can't fit the 5/5s, either so I've taken to putting them in my jacket/sweater's pockets but from what I've seen of the older Notes, a 5.5" will likely fall off most of my jacket pockets, too. :rolleyes:

I just tested all of my pants, jackets and coats. All of the pockets on them except for one can fit an iPhone 5. Horizontally. That's approximately the width of a Galaxy Tab 7".

And I do happen to have first hand experience with fitting an 8" Galaxy Tab in my pockets, and even that is doable on several of the garments which I own. So if you don't mind, I'll just continue to call shenanigans on every ridiculous claim that a 5.5" phone won't fit in someones pockets.

Well, to be honest, the jeans my girlfriend wears have tiny pockets. Her 4" 5s barely fits in them.

I'm a short female so I can definitely relate with the tiny pockets thing.

Right. Because people are one-size fits all. If it works for you, then it must be the same for everyone else. :rolleyes:

Right. Because people are one-size fits all.

No. Because people will have to go through a deliberate effort to find clothes with pockets that are too small to fit any current phone and a conscious choice to wear those clothes as opposed to any "normal" piece of clothing.

Sure, I have pants with no pockets at all. Does that mean that no phone that exists today is pocketable? No, it does not.

I'd have to go through a deliberate effort to find clothes with pockets that can fit a 5.5" phone. Maybe for men's wear, it's no issue. As it is, I find it hard enough to find clothes with a good fit. I'm not about to compound the issue by checking if it'll fit my phone, too. :rolleyes:

I really doubt that. You might need to go through deliberate effort to find tight pants with pockets that are big enough, that I can believe. Anyway, I don't think that's any kind of an issue, either. Most people would need either a coat/jacket or purse/manbag to hold their wallets, keys, sunglasses and other stuff. A phone should fit there easily.

And just to be clear, I do not think that the people who do not want a 5.5" phone should get one or even try one nevertheless. If a small phone is what you want, then a small phone is what you should get.

Coming from someone who had the lg g3, (5.5) It was simply too big to use for me.

Smaller phones are for me.

Exactly!

And theres also the bigger battery!

Lol no I'm gettin the 4.7. I tried a galaxy s4 and that was even too big... It feels clumsy, and I don't like it. Don't even get me started on the software side of things.. xD

This is simply not true. The jacket I wear to work most days has two breast pockets that will just barely fit my iPod Touch. There's simply no way to jam a larger phone in there and still have the flaps close. This is a jacket I bought off the rack. I promise you, I did not choose it out of some perverse desire to thwart future phone manufacturers.

Read through a couple pages of this forum (stalking the forums as always before a launch) and can say this dude really creeps me out. I can't be alone either.

The incessant pleading with people to try a phone that they really don't care to and then long, intricate responses without addressing "dude why do you even care".

Stage-5 Super Creep...

That being said, I'm definitely not getting a 5.5" (when and if they are released).

:apple:

Well that is absolute rubbish. I'm guessing you are not very young with comments like that. In my age group skinny jeans are fashionable for both boys and girls and unfortunately clothing manufacturers do not make the pockets more than about 120mm deep. That makes carrying a device like the Note very difficult indeed. They are not 'douchebag' jeans, what a ridiculous thing to say! And what is a 'normal' piece of clothing? If the jeans sold in many of the high street retailers are not accommodating for phablet phones who are you to say they are not normal?

When we consider phablet phones are popular with a very small element of the market and fashion spreads a little further, it doesn't take long to see that perhaps the two don't compliment each other. You are way out of touch.
