I absolutely adored my iPhone 4. Was disappointed when the 4s was announced, and am disappointed now.

I upgraded to the 4s because I got a cheap deal and felt it would be worth more when I wanted to sell it to buy the 5.

I genuinely thought the 5 would be something new and exciting, something to (in my mind) put apple back ahead of the game, the phone that sets the standard all other phone makers chase, hence the term 'iPhone killer'.

This time I felt apple needed to produce a S3 killer, I know I'll get flamed and people wont agree, but that's just my opinion. For me, they needed to show Samsung how it's done, be the innovators apple are known to be. But they did no such thing. What we got is the iPhone 4 tall. If I upgrade, I'll have had the same phone for 3 years and shelled out almost £1500 for the privilege. More so, since apple added £30 to the price of a 16gb model.

The S3 has a better CPU, a bigger screen (a tad too big imo, but better than an elongated iPhone 4), extendible memory, removable battery, proper bluetooth.

For me personally, the only pro the iPhone has over the S3 is the app store and apples customer service. I want to access apps and know they're secure and virus/spyware free. If my phone or becomes faulty, I want to walk into a shop and walk out with a new/working phone.

So I'm torn, come upgrade time I have no idea what to do, I'm bored of the 4s, I want something new, I was hoping it would be the iPhone 5, but I'm not shelling out more money on what will feel like the exact same phone (quote specs all you like, but in the hand it will feel like the exact same phone). But the Samsung eco system just doesn't do it for me.

Exactly how I felt all day long. This is exactly it.

Try a Nexus Galaxy + or a HTC, could be time to experience other brands. (Although, my time with HTC wasn't very successful), it's a good idea to see how well the other devices par up to the S3 and 5. Or just save money and unlock the phone after the contract is over and go pay'n'go.

My 4S was stolen last week whist abroad :( the first thing I did when I returned home on Monday was order a replacement 4S. Then I realised the iPhone 5 would be announced . I'll be returning the 4S and getting 5 instead :)

Cool story bro.

Nice new phone, bigger screen...no upgrade planned to new Iphone as the release schedule, carrier plan changes (verizon) screwed up the upgrade path for me, I will see what phones are out there next summer, enjoy the new phone

Apple needs an enterprise solution similar to RIM. They also need iOS devices with hardware keyboards.

Give me that, and I would be most certainly impressed.

People like you...

Are people that just don't get it.

:apple:

Wow, guess I misjudged you girls. Enjoy your trendy fashion icon phones.

Men pick tools that get the job done well, and don't cry about their phone's appearance like some chick at a nail salon.

Have we changed the subject to hammers? Why didn't anyone tell me?

Sure it does. Samsung unveiled several things on the S3 no other phone before has had like smart stay, palm sweep, pop up play and buddy share. Thats innovation. Apple has once again just taken things that have been around for years on other phones, added them to the iphone and tried to pass it off as something new and incredible. Fail.

Wait... seriously? You're listing:

1) turning off the screen by looking for your eyes;
2) an alternate way to take a screen shot;
3) being able to pop out a video;
4) and sharing among S3 users

as innovation... 1 and 2 are useless, 3 is novel but hardly ground breaking, and for 4, I don't even know anyone who owns an S3, it would be completely useless...

I'm not saying iP5 was groundbreaking by any means, but seriously w/ these S3 comparisons. When you start with a turd, of course you're going to see 'groundbreaking' additions.

No one signs up to a 24 month contract for an old phone. Most low to mid range phones are sold to PAYG customers.

How many low end Android phones run ICS or JB? Ya, ya no maps, no facetime, etc, but app developers still support iP4 and there are still a number of incremental iOS 6 improvements that iP4 will receive.

Also, taking a step back, LTE and a larger screen are "clearly" not that important... So many comments in this thread saying they'll go w/ the 4s, they'll go Android, etc. But those same voices complain that iPhone is playing catch up and had a small screen and no LTE for so long...

Name me one Android phone that can do 8 hrs of web browsing on LTE.

*hears crickets*

My Verizon Galaxy Nexus can only do 2 hours of onscreen time.

Smart Stay is a nice feature. The Note2 even has special things it can do with the S-Pen also has the ability for those that say you can't use it one handed to slide the keyboard over to the left or right so that you can one hand text.

Smart Dial

Things don't have to be earth shattering but it shows they're trying to incorporate simple things to help benefit the users.

When was the last time somebody has said, "Damn, my iPhone 4/4S is just so damn fat, I wish it was thinner". Why can't we have a bigger battery instead of thinner phone??

I think I'm finally done with the Apple PR machine. Without Steve's reality distorsion field to get me excited, I'm just getting bored with iOS, and the new iPhone offers nothing to change that. I don't think Microsoft could ask for better help with their WM8 launch - there are a lot of people I know that are tired of iOS like me, don't really care for Android, and want to play with something new. Hello L920!

Got the S3 three weeks ago. Forgot how convenient it was to have spare replaceable/charged batteries on hand!

Plus, Non apple accessories ( including batteries) are dirt cheap for this thing. Chargers, cases, screen protectors, all are SOOooo cheap compared to apple.

Plus, the app: Tasker is AMAZING! How cool.

And what has the iphone done lately? Their "new" "innovations" last 3 years have all been things they have either directly stole from Android (notification bar) or things Android and even Windows phones have had for years. Yea, amazing...at least Samsung are continuing to add NEW features, not steal from others.

Samsung and copying apple and their plastic big screened phones for dummies who like big pictures.. There's a new feature

For me, hardware wise all they need to add are..

1) make it a tad bit more wider, lets get 720p resolution

2) actually redesign the device, so get rid of the brick-like design we've been using since iPhone 4. I expected this upgrade to be how the 3GS to 4 was, when it truly doesn't feel like it.
Speaking of feeling. The iPhone 4's brick-design has poor ergonomics. I've had an iPhone 3G and i have an iPhone 4S and the 3G felt much better in the hand.
I wanted to see a mix of 3GS and 4S for the new iPhone, preferably a liquid metal or aluminum curved back (look at the new iPod Touch's back for reference)

So if they add those things for the iPhone 6 then i'm sold.

3) as a bonus, i'd like an LED light for notifications.

"This will allow it the impressive 13 hours of video playback, 21 hours of talk time, 10 hours of streaming video and 27 hours of streaming music over Verizon's LTE network. Here is the full specs rundown from Motorola"

IDK brother. Take a look at the new iPod nano. Now take a look at the Nokia Lumia line of phones. They look about as similar as Samsung versus Apple products if you as me...

To the ones disappointed: Complain! Voice! Discuss! Maybe even switch OS-es (doesn't have to be Android).

Because now we know Apple actually pays very close attention to consumers thanks to details revealed in their recent court trials.

Don't just mindlessly buy because it's an iPhone!

I went through 9 pages of a thread before I finally came to a well thought out list of wants for the next iphone. Geezus. Nice post. I agree on all three. I thought the iphone 3 felt great in the hand.
What my HTC one X does better:
Music Player
Movie Player
Sharing/Mailing images, etc.
Better as a 2 handed device

What my iphone 4 does better:
Exchange integration
Voicemail by far
Calendaring, Ugh on the HTC
OS, ICS just isnt quite there
Better as a 1 handed device

I think the iphone 5 will be a good upgrade. Originally, I purchased the HTC one X to be my new work phone, but have found out it is a much better play phone than the iphone. Iphone will remain my work phone. I enjoy both phones.

irrelevent considering one can just pop in a spare battery for android phones. 12 hrs LTE browsing on the S3 with a spare battery > 8 hrs of LTE browsing on the iPhone 5.

NFC is not in stores yet. Also security is a big issue when using NFC, which means it has to be done right, Apple has the right idea for now with Passport as a few companies like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts etc have already released APPs that will work with Passport. I'm sure many other companies will release these type of Apps as its beneficial to their business.

This phone looks sleek and humble. Everything inside is better and faster. If the battery holds up with the 4G drain than it will truly be a superior device.
