I'll be getting a 17 Pro. I have no interest in Apple's foldable.
Why would I want a worse iPhone than any other in the line up AND the worst iPad available, all in one device, for $2,000? There is no benefit to be had there.
The iPhone part is expected to be 5.5", with a short and fat aspect ratio. Why are there no other iPhones like this? Why has there never been any other iPhone like this? Because that's not a size or aspect that anyone actually wants. It is a design compromise to achieve other goals. That is not good. It will also have side button Touch ID, which is a huge regression and an awful user experience. I've used that on iPad Air for years and it is just as terrible and awkward years later as it was when it first launched. Face ID is effortless, and top tier quality. I'll never buy an iPhone without it or something better. It is also expected to have a single camera, and other limitations not found on any other iPhone.
The iPad part is expected to fall just short of iPad mini size, which means it will take over the mantel as worst iPad from iPad mini. At such a small size, none of iPad's actual utility is available. Until you get to at least 10", you can't use the device any differently than you would a phone. You're just using a larger phone. So while you might enjoy unfolding your phone to watch a video...what have you really gained for your $2k? You can't open it up and start multi tasking and being productive like an actual iPad. You're still just on a larger phone.
I get the concept, its not like I don't understand WHY you might want a bigger device unfolded from a smaller device. But the reality is that what is achievable today is a heavily compromised version of both. And the only reason Apple is even considering it is because of the price tag.
