Honestly, not sure. I may go ahead with the 17… The reason being, my last phone upgrade (XS Max to 14 Pro Max) was such a long period of time that my trade-in was hardly worth anything. I would like to keep up just so I don’t end up in a situation like that.

Waiting for the foldable is very tempting, though…
Same here. I upgraded the battery in my 14 Pro Max earlier this year, but that doesn’t improve the resale value of the phone. I went from the XS Max to the 12 Pro Max and then waited till the 14 Pro Max came out. It’s been a great phone but the value of it keeps going down :/.

Since we know the foldable iPhone will be released next year, those who are supposed to have an upgrade cycle this year or planning to get the 17, will you still do or wait for the foldable?

OR GET BOTH?!
I am on a plan where I can upgrade each year.

I have no interest in a foldable phone; so I’ll definitely be upgrading this year.

I'm stuck on the 13 series, and will be until Apple either releases a new Mini or support for the mini ends. I will look at the foldable, if it's about the same size as a mini when folded I may get one, but $2000 for a mini is steeper than I would like to spend.
The foldable will be too expensive, but also too thick and too heavy.

I usually upgrade every year and trade my current phone in, this may change once the rumored iPhone Fold releases as I wouldn't think this would be a yearly device update much like the Vision Pro.

I’m currently using my iPhone 13 Pro. Still a solid machine, although battery is now down to 63% of original capacity.
So my choice is spring £70 for a new battery and keep the phone another 2-3 years, or get an iPhone 17 Pro this year.

Foldable holds no interest for me (tried my partner’s foldable Samsung, it’s bulky and I hate that you can see and feel the crease), so will see what the announced specs for the 17 are and decide from there (tempted by upgrading mind you, and getting a new Apple Watch at the same time to replace my aging S5)

All the free financing is now 36 months (I think). They seem to be setting the standard that 'normal' users will upgrade every 3 years. I upgraded from a 12pm to a 15pm and it seemed to make sense. I might upgrade to the 17pm if my entire family wants to switch carriers and get new phones. We are verizon customers and verizon seems very anxious to chase us off.

I will definitely upgrade from the 14P to the 17P. I can’t wait. The new cameras look really nice. I usually upgrade at around 3 years. This way the current iPhone is still new enough to useful to the family member I pass this on to. I have no interest in a foldable device. Seems fragile.

I usually upgrade every other year (24 month Apple Card 0%), but this year might be an exception with the 17 AIR.

Looking to lighten my personal phone since I also carry a super heavy 14PM for work - both on my belt all day 5 days a week.

I am on the Apple 1UP Program, so I get a new Pro Max annually. If the rumored orange is true, I will snag that!! If not, I 'May" consider the Air this year just to try something different.

This time last year, I said I'd hold off from upgrading from my iPhone 12 Pro to the 16 Pro and get the 17 Pro. With a few weeks to go, I'm pretty sure I'm going to do the same again this year. I just find it very difficult to get excited about the new phones at the moment, there just isn't enough new features or benefits to warrant dropping the £999 (or more) to upgrade.

  1. If Siri genuinely worked as we want it to, properly integrated with a true GenAI, I would upgrade in a heartbeat
  2. If the form factor was new and added genuine benefits (not counting the thinner Air concept), I probably would upgrade too, even if Siri/GenAI was still a year away
So, I'm just going to replace the battery soon, as its now on 80%, and wait for next year.

But....I just feel the smart phone is so tired as a format anyway. I'm sure we'll still have some kind of handheld device for some time, but I'm much more excited about AR glasses and would be happier about dropping a large amount of money on them, instead of a new phone.
