Why can't people admit they did something for their phone to bend? It didn't bend spontaneously.

I'd agree, but then again I may wake up tomorrow and find that my phone has decided to bend itself into the shape of a pringle overnight. If I'm lucky it might even have assumed the form of a paper crane, that way I could still pass it down to my niece, who's having her origami phase at the moment.

After 20+ years of cell phones being in common use anyone manufacturing devices has to realise that the phones are subject to certain stresses, or even abuses, in everyday use. This includes being stressed in pockets, pressed hard against things like tables or chairs when people walk into them and other general abuse. Such abuses have become the norm because phones have been able to take such treatment.

It seems quite reasonable to expect that you should be able to use the 6+ in the same way, after so many phones over so many years have shown themselves to be resilient to such use/abuse. If it's suddenly necessary to treat the phone differently then that would seem to be a flaw in the design. It clearly isn't a general issue with large phones, just the 6+.

Personally I've always treated my devices with great care, including my 6+, and I've not had a problem. The point seems to be that others may not take such good care but It hasn't caused a problem with devices they've owned previously and they should reasonably expect to be able to use their 6+ in the same way.
The iPhone 6 isn't inherently less durable than other phones. It is just less resistant to torsion, like others models (HTC M8).
And torsion isn't, by far, the most common stress a phone is supposed to sustain.

No, no you weren't using it "normally". If you had been doing so your phone would not have bent in such a manner. I use my phone normally and it's not bent. Why can't people admit they did something for their phone to bend? It didn't bend spontaneously.

I'm very careful with my devices. Not exactly OCD, but just a step below that.
Nevertheless my previous iPhone 5 had a dent. I don't really know how I made it, but it was there.
That sort of things just happen, even if the owner is careful (and I'm surely more careful than the regular user).
My iPhone 5 didn't dent by itself. I did it, and never realized how and when...

That's the point.... A lot of owners here are passing to Apple responsibility for their mistakes... I still have to see someone prove the iPhone bend by itself.[COLOR="#808080"

Yeah I know, I was being sarcastic, haha.

Good to see a few people are doing all they can to keep this thread going. I expect every person who carries an iPhone 6 or 6+ in their jeans pocket to have a bent phone 6 months or so after they buy it. After seeing how much the 6 deformed just removing it from my case it's clear to me there's a defect. Maybe the 6s will be better, until then my 5 will do...

This story over at reddit seems to indicate cases are to blame as well. Could be a cause for some of the instances where users can't remember any particular event that would cause damage to the phone:

I really am thankful for all the users reporting this around the internet and saving me the grief. I have no issues waiting for the 6S and was on the fence already as well after being burned by antennagate.

I fully expect this to dwarf all other "gates". Apple may be covered from a class action due to the fact that it doesn't actually bend by itself, but the loss of goodwill for this is going to be off the charts. People expect a phone to stand up to their pocket. If someone actually carries one of these in their pocket for 2 years without it bending they should probably invest in a lottery ticket...

I don't. This will never come close to "dwarfing" all other gates. I have a much better chance at dropping the phone and breaking the screen in the next 2 years than having my phone bend. And I have never had a broken screen.

Highly, highly, highly unlikely that every person who carries their iPhone in their pocket will have a bent iPhone 6 or 6 Plus in 6 months. Over dramatic! I would bet you less than 2 percent will have that happen, and I am being generous on that 2%.

You keep telling yourself that. I'm sure that your "faith statements" will protect you from the physics of a poorly designed device...

I'm not making the truly absurd "I expect every person who carries an iPhone 6 or 6+ in their jeans pocket to have a bent phone 6 months or so after they buy it" or "I fully expect this to dwarf all other "gates" statements. Credibility=zero

So other peoples videos and pictures justify that my phone will bend? Really?

Not sure if srs...

your statement that your screen will shatter before your phone will bend is just wrong.

that's all I was saying.

What are you talking about?
The reddit thread was about a store employee who mishandled an already broken phone as he was trying to take it out of a case.

It has nothing to do with the case causing the problem nor anything wrong with the phone.

But okay, if you want another gate to promote how about:

Did you not read or not understand the story?

The employee was mishandling an already broken phone as he was struggling to take a case off.

Your conclusion: blame the case!

LOL

People here aren't even trying anymore.

This is just like the story of the person saying maybe it was the screen protector. It was too tight and caused torque. LOL.

You're wrong because the screens on these iPhones aren't very thick and they're flimsy. The screen will often times bend along with the phone.

Breh, I meant my phone will most likely be dropped and shatter before it "bends" from day-to-day use

Did you not read the story?? That is not what it says at all. Take off the blinders man.

My first 6 plus.... Bent within a week with normal use.

Phone replaced by Apple.

Had new phone now for 3 weeks.

Phone not bent after same normal use.

Yeah, there can't possibly be defected phones out in the wild. It's all the owners fault.

It was totally your fault, you shouldn't have carried it in your jeans pocket.

I'm looking forward to the day when the debate is finally over and people just accept that these phones bend in the pocket. I can already imagine the threads now.

It's strange because I spoke to Apple reps from the online store twice and from a retail store in person as a potential buyer (in London) asking them if they would replace if my phone bent within warranty and they reassured me 100% they would.

I asked them three times at separate occasions because of reports like the above of people getting turned away.

Maybe it differs from place to place? Although the apple reps from the online store, one was actually from the US (they connect across countries sometimes).

London UK?

I think our sale of goods act is a lot stricter than the equivalent in a lot of countries

Yes SOGA is good.

"(2B)For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—

(a)fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,
(b)appearance and finish,
(c)freedom from minor defects,
(d)safety, and
(e)durability."

Apple will fold EVERY TIME before having an Iphone 6 question of "durability" tested in Court (e.g. small claims). If they lost that argument then it would be very serious for them (and they know it !).

... good spot. And in particular

"Any defect or non-conformity of goods with the contract which becomes apparent within 6 months of delivery are presumed to have existed at the time of delivery. After the expiry of this 6 month period, the burden to prove that the defect or non-conformity of goods with the contract existed on delivery generally shifts to the consumer."
