You shouldn't require a case wow I can't believe the crap I hear here sometimes.

Steve jobs didnt even use cases, he hated them, a case shouldn't be required.

did I say it should require a case?

NO

I just said if you are going to treat it not like a really expensive computer in your pocket you SHOULD maybe get a case.

I personally don't use cases, but I have NEVER dropped my phone or broke my screen, or bend it in any way.

Ok, so it was in your front pocket, you obviously did a sit-up or something to put enough pressure on it to bend it. Either you did it or someone else did it. It did not happen by itself!! You must have done it and did not notice the pressure you were putting on it which seems odd to me that you didn't feel it. News flash! Take care of your stuff.

There are enough of these stories out there that it appears at the very least there was a bad batch that bends easily, and possibly a design flaw. I wonder if the reason why Apple says there haven't been many reports of them bending is that most of them are turned down by the front line customer service people and they don't record why they refused service.

Not necessarily a design flaw. Maybe the Chinese supplier of the alloyed aluminum thought they could get away with a cheaper alloy in some percentage of the cases and no one would notice. If I were Apple I'd have the bent cases tested to see if the composition matches the specs in the requirements. Maybe one of their suppliers is being bad.

Well unfortunately the return window doesn't matter anyway. You can't return the phone if it's damaged, they wouldn't have taken it back at Verizon that way. Your choices are:

1. Live with it that way
2. Try to bend it back and see if you can live with the results
3. Take it to Apple and see what your options are there to replace

If you decide on number 3, it will be up to Apple to decide if they want to cover it or not as warranty (and it may depend on which genius you get and how they are feeling that day). If they decide they won't cover it as warranty, then your options are $329 for a replacement if you don't have Applecare+, or $79 for a replacement if you do have Applecare+.

So there, you now have your options. Time to mull over and decide.

I always check these threads to see pictures and hear the story behind it. I used to be a very tough one to convince it was anything other than user damage. This time, however, the 6+ phones are consistently bent in the same locations and it is just a gut feeling but I believe the OPs. I am getting a 6+ and truly hope this isn't a problem I encounter. I had a 6+ for two weeks before returning and buying with upgrade pricing. My 6+ held up nicely, but I literally babied the he11 out of it. We should not have to worry about a PHONE bending in our front pocket, period. There is NO argument to make against this like the ones I have seen that say: be more careful, baby your phone in your pocket, live life completely different so your phone that goes in your pocket won't bend. This is a design flaw and hopefully they are rectifying this as we speak.

I will say this, yes we can bend these phones ourselves by being careless and bend them by just normal everyday use in our pocket. This will be the first iPhone that can't endure normal wear and tear of the general consumer (front pocket use). Women who put it in their purse are just asking for it. Most phones still hold up well in a woman's purse minus the typical scratches, unless protected. As of now, I still sit on the side of the consumer and this isn't suppose to be something we have to worry about unless we KNOWINGLY take a risk such as using the back pocket, front pocket and lean against railing or counter etc, and other behavior that can knowingly damage a phone. A bit of my opinion mixed with some rant, but I hope it makes sense. Apple makes some very quality devices and I support them, as well as supporting other phone makers for good products. Very unbiased and this appears to be a flaw on Apple's side. It will continue to rear its head so I hope anyone who has this happen will be helped out by Apple. The people who have damaged it on their own and lie to customer service, well karma will bend that second phone, too :p

i'd try going into different apple stores and sooner or later someone will replace it for you, although i don't know how it works if it's a carrier phone.

This is what im hoping, after work today when I have more time I will call back apple support because I basically live on an island with no apple store... Hopefully I'll get someone more helpful or I'll ask to speak to a supervisor I guess.

I'm inclined to agree. Apple should be collecting as many of these bent devices as possible in order to determine if there's some quality control issue.

Oh god op kept the phone in his front pocket! What horrible mistreatment of his device! I hope you're saying you don't believe the op not that a phone should bend in your pocket.

call as many times as you can. talk them into replacing it, break their balls. i bought applecare+ for our two pluses today just because of that. maybe i'm paranoid, i don't care. 100$ will make me sleep well for 2 years. i advice you do the same the next time.

As already mentioned, the bends are consistently in the same place. Isn't that where the Apple logo cut out is? Hmm.

Bent equally on both sides?

Our of curiosity, is the extent of bending the same on both sides of the phone? If there is a specific flaw at one spot as some have speculated, it would seem bending would be worse on the volume-button side... ?

i have been using my iPhone 6 for a month and it has not bent.

i have put pressure against my pocket (at work, unintentionally) multiple times and it's STILL not bent.

i do not believe these phones are bending from normal use. no way, jose.

well, I put mine in my front pocket every day, so either he wears EXTREMELY skinny jeans or there is more to this story then meets the eye?

Thats the thing, On the other side of the phone where the power button is, it looks COMPLETELY fine. No bend what so ever. The bend is only on the volume button side.

There it is, that volume button cutout again.

If I were you I'd keep trying with Apple. Call them every day and don't hang up until you've talked to a supervisor. Threaten never to buy another Apple product and tell them you'll go online if they don't set things right.

Don't tell them you've already gone online, it will make them less likely to replace it as they don't want online reports of bent iPhone replacements. It's also too late to keep you quiet if you've already gone online. Basically you need them to believe that if they replace the phone then it's just between you and Apple. Heh.

Please keep us updated, as some of us do acknowledge this design flaw and want Apple to take action both on an individual buyer level and at the manufacturing level. Like you, I ordered a 6+ from Verizon, but mine isn't here yet. Maybe Apple changed the design on later builds, but I seriously doubt it for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being that it would open them to class action lawsuits. :(

You're assuming that every purse is the same and that women all just toss it in and don't take care of their cellphone. I'd venture to say my phone in my purse is more babied than people's phone in their pocket. I make sure it's not moving around (my purse is tight and things have to go in a certain way). It gets cushioned by my checkbook on one side and a spare maxi pad on the other. And I try to make sure nothing else is next to it. And it's pretty solid in there, I don't believe in big purses, blech. And if I had a big purse it would have to have a cellphone pocket that would keep my phone from moving around and other objects from moving around and hitting it. And I'd probably still want some padding (I do tend to drop my purse so that is exactly why I pad the iphone in my purse).

It's so well cushioned that my iphone 5 survived my motorcycle wreck without a scratch (the paramedics were amused I was asking if it was ok). That happened the same week I got my iphone 5 (I got it launch day) and it still works perfectly fine now (it has a scratch on the front but it wasn't from that but from dropping off my nightstand and getting wedged between the nightstand and the bed <- my nightstand is an old PC and the cover on the side near the bed isn't on it so there is a little space for things to fall between).

I would try setting up a genius bar appointment and being very nice and seeing if they would possibly offer to replace it under warranty once. Sometimes you get further by going in person and being extremely friendly. Good luck.

I'm on hold with Apple right now as I type this....Trying to buy Applecare for my 1 month old Iphone 6 Plus, all because of this thread. Mistakes can happen.

Come on, I have always put my phone in my front pocket and I don't like cases. So now Apple thinks you aren't supposed to put it in your pocket? Now you have to have a supporting case to keep it from bending. That's a bunch of bull. If this is a real problem it won't stop at just their customers taking it on the chin. I have had my phone since October 6 and it's in my jeans pocket all day every day and no bends yet. I would be furious. If you didn't do anything to bend the phone You can always write an email to tcook@apple.com with a photo of the phone and you will get an answer from someone fast.

You had me at maxi pad.

It's entirely possible that some phones are defective while yours is not. Even if most people never have a problem, Apple should still investigate.
