Tonight 1am order online for in store pickup Saturday
This is crazy to me, has anyone else experienced this.
The full price phone I want is available for personal pick up - however ordering online you get charged a $30 upgrade fee and you have to change your service plan with verizon.
If you "walk in" and buy a phone neither the upgrade fee or service plan change is required.
However, the personal pick up through the site has a different inventory than the store inventory. So I can't "walk in" and buy the phone I want without doing the personal pick up through the site and getting charged the fees...
Hey so I was able to do this. I secured a space grey 128 at an Apple Store in Atlanta. DH picked it up on a work trip. Atlanta Apple couldn't switch him to next because ATT takes 3 days to refresh the eligibility status. So when Apple refunded him they couldn't add to the line because he wasn't eligible.
At that point knowing he couldn't leave that ip6+ in Atlanta for fear of my wrath. He bought it outright. I went to ATT in Jax and they said Apple should be able to do switch to next but then admitted the eligibility wouldn't show for 3 days. Apple blamed ATT for both the status and the policy. According to Apple ATT is the one who banned personal pick up for us second class ATT next citizens.
Anyway we connected the phone that day, ATT at least waived the $40 connection fee. They also apologized and said if we wanted to reverse this and get on the next program we could do so after 3 business days.
About a week later when I went to turn in my 4S for $200, I was told I couldn't because it was saying it was lost or stolen. (I will not digress with why this disaster occurred) I had to go to Apple at this point. While there we went ahead and did the refund exchange etc. It took quite a while in both wait time and being able to do it. Apple is still a zoo. Then we were told some crazy story about it going back to stock and we could lose the phone.
Anyway the refund worked somehow. But then since ATT added new plans (30GB a MONTH for $160 = steal with 24% employee discount = $121) and I have a new plan on checkout for ATT next it wasn't an option. (Sigh. Apple and ATT can't play nice.) We selected some random plan since we were on our way back to ATT with the intent to fix any changes right after. ATT said nothing in our plan changed (and exchanged my 4S for $200!!

). I suppose I'll find out on my next bill if something got messed up.
Anyway we ended up 3 Apple Store visits and 3 ATT visits in all together. It was done but it was annoying as hell.
I still need 1 more phone. I'm debating what to do. Shipping seems really nice right now.

I do think us ATT folk need to ban together to get answers from ATT for why they are banning personal pick up from us if we don't do the contract. There is an ATT forum were we can voice our complaint.
