I'm a 2 but then I have only just got it... And I live in south London, where I sometimes feel I might be mugged for 'the sake of it'.

Those of you that reckon you are not going to be mugged are both very lucky and a little naive. Right, you shouldn't have to go into hiding to use your phone, but whip it out in the wrong place and it'll be gone. There is no need to flaunt it!

Wheres the option that offers the following...

Get your phone out in public so you hope someone steals it. This way your insurance gives you a brand new iPhone and the person that mugged you has a nice brick with a big scratch down the screen that I unfortunately did the other day.

Hehe.

On a serious note, I'm a 2. I go to quite a bad school and most people will do anything for an iPhone around here.

I guess I'm sort of a 2 or 2.5... I'm somewhat cautious about it but if I need to use the phone I'll use the phone. I know one guy that has one, and half his point in owning one is for the attention, so he flashes it around all the time and he makes sure everyone knows he has one. Kind of stupid (and annoying) if you ask me.

Living in a large city that has a decent amount of crime, I think twice about whipping out my iPhone in certain areas. Now that it has been out for a few months, I can be less careful.

crystal palace, south london. recently someone was murdered after he told off some kids for throwing litter through his car window. there are often police signs looking for witnessed to violent crimes. and signs warning us that theives are after our ipods.
My neck of the woods. I'm in E&C and thus am definitely a 1 though I'm usually a 3. So far in 3 and a half years in E&C I've never been mugged. *touch wood*

Bu until I get some insurance on it and a case I'm going to be a 1:D

Dont be scared its just a phone and if something does happen it is still just a phone. An expensive one but a phone nontheless.

I wonder if those who are scared about using their iPhones in public are also too scared to take their car out on the streets. After all, it's a lot more expensive than a phone, is filled with combustible material and is hurtling around in close proximity with other similar machines! Scary!

And then there's trains! With their metal rails and razor-sharp wheels that can slice a man clean in too. And they're filled to the gunwales with potential muggers and murderers and...worst than that...pick-pockets who might pilfer your iPhone! Gasp!

So, that being the case, the safety of your iPhone should be the least of you worries. For the record, I lived in South Norwood until the age of 27.

I've used my iPhone in 3rd world countries. Not to sound like a dick, but if you can't afford to lose your iPhone, you can't afford an iPhone.

PS - I used a case for it for a while, but now I only use the case on airplanes as the rubber edging is great for anti-slip whilst propping it up to watch a vid.

I like my iPhone nude.

i suppose this isn't really the point of the thread, but I have an iPod touch.... and am 13... and probably go to one of the most ghetto schools in the state. (NC-hick town lol) I would say that I am either a 3 or an idiot with it. Some one stole THE LOCK OFF MY LOCKER... but I still bring all my iStuff to school.

i do this with my 5G iPod too. I boot it into Podzilla before I stick it in my backpack, and it has a cracked screen, so it isn't too appealing.

so yeah. I'm a 3 with my tech stuff.

I'm a number 2. I'm not afraid of it being stolen but I would not take it on a hike. I plan on taking it to school but I will have it on me 24/7 so nobody could steal it.

jesus H christ !

If you are scared to use your fricken mobile as a mobile then why the hell would you buy it !!!!!!!:confused::confused:

Jeeeeeeesh some people here need to get their heads on, absolutely atrocious!
:D

So true. People seem to like buying expensive things solely for the purpose of giggling to themselves at how nice of things they have! :p

only time i was really worried about having an iPhone was when leaving the apple shop in glasgow and walking back to the car carrying the "please mug me" iPhone bag that apple put the iPhone in.

I'm always hiding it, I look like an idiot holding the iPhone up to me ear with my hand obscuring most of the phone. I probably attract more attention to myself than I would otherwise.

While I know that I'm probably not the best off kid in my school, it sure looks like it. That's because I sacrifice things that most other teenagers have to save up for my tech stuff. Most kids in my school would go buy a brand new pair of them expensive sneakers if they got $200, when I would run out and buy an iPod, or put it towards a new laptop. Yet somehow I'm still embarrassed to seem richer than I am... maybe it's because I feel like a fraud.

Wow, sorry for that off topic rant. In short, yes I do hide my iPhone, but because I'm embarrassed to look richer than I am....phew....

I pay O2 £7.50/month for the pleasure to be a #3.. If it got stolen or broken I'd be ****ing pissed off - but all would be well eventually.

I am a 2.5 but not because of the iPhone itself. Simply because I have been robbed for a phone before. I am not afraid to answer it but just like anything else, I am aware of my surroundings and who is watching. I wouldnt leave it on a fast food table and go to the bathroom but I am not afraid to answer it at mcdonalds either.

I'm a 2.5. I ride public transportation to work and I am careful when I use it while commuting. Anywhere else though I use it freely.

just a question... you guys that are afraid of getting robbed what do you guys look like? Not being rude but I have NEVER had a problem with worrying about someone taking my phone. I could see if your 16 years old or if your 5'6" 150 lbs wet. I am just curious where you guys stand in stature.

I am not a big guy by all means, but I am 5'10" 215 and not fat at all. I guess a short stocky guy with tatoos doesnt look as much like an easy target.

im a number 3 when in regard to it being stolen, but I am kinda catious about where I take it in regard to it being broken, I.E. i dont toss it in my soccer bag with my cleats like I did with my old phone.

No offence but what a stupid question . Sorry, but it has nothing to do with how you look, if someone wants to rob you they will. So you are saying all 16 year olds are easy targets??? Such a generalised statement leads me to assume you must be about 16?

Just to clarify my original post, everyone falls in to one of the three catagories (some more easily than others), and I personally fall under the second. I use my iPhone everywhere, and love it, but I am always carefull and sensible with my surroundings, just in case!

Thanks for all the input though!!! One other question, those that say they pay insurance premiums so they can be a 3, do you take the same attitude with driving?!?! :(

I have a case now so I'm a 2 :D

And just walked through my estate (in south-east London indeed :) ) and I saw three people with iPhones :O. How can they afford it?!

I don't have an iPhone, so I'm answering as if I do (and I hope to within 6 months or so).

I think there can be cause for prudence but it just depends on circumstances. 99% of my daily life I'd be a "3" but there are occasions when I'd leave it in my pocket.

Somebody earlier mention Sarf London - I live SE London and I wouldn't flash in front of any of the gangs you get about. I'd also not pull it out as soon as I leave the tube station - us in London are continually subjected to posters and police warnings about the danger of flashing gadgets at the wrong places/wrong times. It's not just the irritation of losing stuff - people get killed for phones, FACT.

Very true. I have come back to find out that someone was shot through the head just outside my door. Gotta love good old sarf London.
