No.

Yes, the iPhone is hot right now with a lot to talk about, but next month we will be chatting about speed benching the new macbooks and drooling over the new iPods.

Get it?

it's a fair enough point. The MR communitity is growing with most new visitors coming because of either the iPhone or iPod so it's good that there are rumors for them, as for macs, it's kinda obivous rumors that are comming thru, or new ideas that seem far too ahead of time even for apple, so the get shot down by us.

... And obviously the site owner is mainly interested in iPhone at this time. ...The rest of Mac users...we are left out.

Let's see:

over 36,890 threads and over 391,416 posts in iPhone forums
over 259,826 threads and over 2,207,863 posts on Macs and everything else.

Yep, us Mac users are left out! LOL

Talk about riding the hype wave. Everything iPhone related is moved up on the homepage. And obviously the site owner is mainly interested in iPhone at this time. This is a shame. The rest of Mac users...we are left out.

I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you were saying, I'm talking on my iPhone.

I guess the dozens of other non-iPhone forums are invisible in your browser?

I am sick of the iPhone stuff as well..

But what is new about Mac Pro? the same crap over and over again? no even comments about not having blu ray drives.

iPhone is actually the only thing evolving in Apple, the rest is about actually Intel comming with a new processor every week.

The rumors in general are not the same any more.

Do you honestly believe that Mac content is being unreported because of the iPhone content?

You joined the forum in November 2006, so I'll assume that was a "good month" for Mac rumors/news from your perspective. It was before the iPhone was released.

Then:
Nov 2006: 1st 20 days. 36 front page posts. 20 were at least loosely Mac related

Now:
Aug 2008: 1st 20 days. 54 front page posts. 23 were at least loosely Mac related

There is more non-Mac content now, but the absolute amount of Mac content is not reduced. This month has more Mac content then the month you joined. The percentage is smaller, of course, but that's because Apple is doing more non-Mac stuff.

And in a couple of years someone will be asking "should we change the name of this site to <new apple product>rumors".

See this post from Jan 21, 2004:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/56653/

However, recently the site seems to have given itself over to ipods and itunes. I can't remember the last time there was more mac stuff on page one than music stuff.

"So what?" I hear you cry. Well, the name at the top says 'macrumors', not 'ipodrumors' or indeed 'itunes rumors'. While all this music stuff has a place on the web, I don't think it should be here, on the first page of macrumors.

Brave...what a great post!!!!
:)

there is a ton of mac news that comes out everyday on this site...and sure, there is ALWAYS going to be tons of hype on the lastest and greatest apple products

OP: Deal with it.

Should "complaining" be renamed "kryszrich-ing"?

Sorry. Hurting, not helping.

Ridiculous is as ridiculous does.

Arn has already said all that needs to be said.

You mean this has come up before?? ;)

You mean this has come up before?? ;)

Yeah, but it's only come up about once every ten minutes, so people generally haven't noticed.

Despite having no problems with how the news and rumours are reported on the front page, I'd quite like the ability for a little customisation - say three little checkboxes to exclude content you don't feel relevant to yourself. (Mac, iPod, and iPhone, for example). Sometimes I'm just totally disinterested in reading Mac articles, and sometimes I don't want to hear about the iPhone.

[sarcasm]What! I can still post in this thread? Shouldnt it be in Wasteland?[/sarcasm]

Being serious, the iPhone is a completely new product which aims at changing the way we see phones today! Its the next big thing and you're asking why such hype?

I'll say the same thing I always say when these threads pop up. What Mac news or rumors is MR neglecting? None. OK, thanks.

I agree that the iPhone exposure level is obscene here - but it's the same everywhere...the iPhone is the latest gadget and everyone wants to talk about it.

...But nobody is making anyone read the iPhone threads. Just ignore them if you don't care about them. Like me. :)

I think we should pause for a moment and see that there are currently

9 stories on Apple laptops
1 story on the iPhone

on the front page. :)

Can we have a blanket rule that all threads bitching and whining about whatever apple product that has the limelight will be wastelanded?

They're infantile and pointless.
