Well, look at this. I just looked at my user profile, and found that this post is number 5,001...I would have finally become a MacRumors 601 today, if I hadn't contributed yet... :) :D

now all i gotta do is keep my pace of posting up and i will really get up there on the list! teehee, i have dropped off quite a bit as of late, but now that i am settling into my new job hopefully i will be able to be around a bit more often

I feel like I should have more to say!

I always appreciate these stats, Q. But to be honest, I'm sad that I never make it on any of them. (Obviously it's my own fault, but disappointing nonetheless. :)

I accept bribes. ;)

I've noticed that, since becoming a moderator, I don't post nearly as much. That explains why I fell a place in the long term but I'm sure that could be changed easily enough.

So let me get this straight, you're just starting a new job, therefore you should have more time to not work and instead post on MacRumors. Gotcha. :p ;) :)

j/k as you know, it's always great having you around, my friend.

No, more likely it'd be the processor used in the PB G5... {sigh}

Here's my hand at stats (all approximate):
1500 posts over 5 years = 300 posts/year
98765 posts at 300 posts/year = 329 YEARS!

Crap.

  1. Proj Rank = Projected position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to 50.
  2. Projection End of Time = members with the 50 highest projected post counts as time goes to infinity, based on overall post rate since joining MacRumors.
  3. LongTerm Rate = average # posts per day by that member over their entire membership.
  4. Curr Rank = current rank, as of July 2005, or "--" for those who are not in the current Top 50.
  5. Delta Rank = projected change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank from now until the end of time.

Comments on the End of Time Projections

I made the chart in the previous post based solely on the post rate over each member's length of membership. Current post counts do not affect this computation, since over time a member posting more frequently will overtake those posting less frequently.

The longer someone has been a member, the more likely it is that their post rate has reached a steady state. Some members speed up after an initial period of lurking, while others slow down afer an initial flurry, and there is no simple way to predict this. To mitigate this effect, I have included only those who have been members 6 months or more.

--- At the Top ---

The top three, Mr. Anderson, wdlove, and jsw, were projected to have these same end-of-time positions six months ago.

Mr. Anderson's long-term rate has dropped by about 1 post per day, wdlove's has increased by about half a post per day, and jsw's is basically the same (up very slightly). Note that a change in posting habits by a long-term member, even over 6 months, will affect their long-term rate less than it would a shorter term member.

More surprising than the Top 3 are the many "new" faces among the Top 10, including three who are in the current Top 50:
Mechcozmo, Blue Velvet, mkrishnan
and two who are not:
Platform, emw

It's worth noting, however, that three of them, Mechcozmo, Blue Velvet, and emw, have been members only about a year and that Platform just barely made the 6 month minimum. mkrishnan has been a member almost 18 months. Time will tell if the relatively recent members are subject to the "burnout" (some call it "getting a life" :) ) effect we have seen for some high-posting members in the past.

I hereby eat my words from six months ago, when I said I would be surprised if jsw and Chip NoVaMac could maintain their posting rates. Both did, and in fact increased, Chip NoVaMac's by more than 1 post per day. Note: I will not eat my cherished Q hat.

--- Changed members ---

Compared to the Top 50 today, the end-of-time Top 50 is vastly different.

Fifteen members projected to join the Top 50 list:
Platform, emw, maya, iGary, CanadaRAM, munkle, stubeeef, mad jew, Mitthrawnuruodo, Daveway, powermac666, Applespider, brap, Hector, Yvan256

Fifteen members projected to fall off the Top 50 list:
Dont Hurt Me, arn, AlphaTech, krossfyter, Kwyjibo, Backtothemac, nagromme, cb911, Mudbug, stoid, job, teabgs, mac15, mischief, Durandal7

Only Mr. Anderson and wdlove are projected to retain the positions they have now, at #1 and #2.

Member projected to miss staying in the Top 50 list by a mere .025 posts/day (one post every 40 days): Dont Hurt Me

--- Changes in rank ---

Highest projected rise in rank:
Blue Velvet, up an amazing 32 slots
just ahead of
Mechcozmo, up 31 slots

Next highest:
mkrishnan and PlaceofDis, each up 17 slots
Chip NoVaMac, up 16 slots
yellow, up 14 slots
jsw, up 13 slots
aswitcher, up 12 slots

Highest projected loss in rank:
jefhatfield, down 37 slots

Next highest:
MrMacman, down 27 slots
iJon, iGAV, and rainman::|:|, each down 26 slots

Special mention:
Platform, not currently in the Top 100, projected to be #7
CanadaRAM, also not currently in the Top 100, projected to be #21

--- Excluded members ---

Two members were not included because they were just shy of the 6-month minimum:
dotdotdot would have been #6
clayj would have been #7

For the record, King Cobra would have been #40.

Thanks Doctor Q - I always enjoy reading these stat sheets. My posting rate has been slowly increasing over the last 6 months or so...but I doubt it will get above 7.0 (anytime soon), which I would need to become 16th on the end of time list.

While that would be nice, I would prefer a job and maybe stay where I am in the rankings... ;)

Of the 250, 56 (22.4%) are paid members and 194 (77.6%) are not.

And thanks again for these stats Doctor Q! Interesting, I thought there would have been more 6502s and not as many 65816s. We have quite a select bunch of 601s (only 6!), but I'd project that will change in the next 6 months at the rates a lot of members are posting. Assuming of course they keep it up, and don't go the Contributor/Demi-God route....

j/k as you know, it's always great having you around, my friend.

haha, ive started the new job, been at it for a couple of weeks now, its that i'm adjusting to the schedule and hours - getting used to it and whatnot that will allow me to be here more often. i have no access to computers while at work, im basically a warehouse manager so i'm too busy running around a hot warehouse organizing, pulling, shelving, tagging merchandise to post while at work, but im getting used to the long hours so i will be able to post more in my off time. :D

yeah everyone here is stuck with me :p

*sigh* Yet more evidence of my addiction. Barring major life changes, I don't anticipate my posting rate declining too much, unless you all decide you can't put up with me any more... :p

I'm lucky I can post from work.

On another side note, I'm finding its very difficult to change my Posts per day average (Almost as bad as trying to change your cumulative GPA  ). After being a member for nearly 5 years, and have a period of inactivity on my account, it's become quite the challenge.

For example, yesterday I posted nearly 30 times, and I managed to change my posts/day average from .81 to .82. It's going to take awhile to get to the magic (IMO) 1 post/day mark for me.

Clearly I need to raise my worthless post quotient. Well hey, here's one more!

Dr. Q, I'd kinda like to see you eat your hat, not out of malice, purely from a scientific standpoint.

I predict that my post count will drop off.

My wife and I bought our first house. It's in the boondocks, and it's got no broadband. ISDN is available, though.
