I only have a posting rate between 5 and 6 posts per day, and I'm in the Top 30.

That means I've been here too long, right?

Been here so long, and I have a feeling that nobody knows who I am.

Why didn't you count posts in the Community forum, Q?

What an abstract concept. Badum-Shh! <-- snare & high hat

I do count such posts. In the case of gwuMACaddict, I was limited to the most recent 500 posts because of the way the search function works. Community Discussion was the only forum where he had more than 500 posts, so I didn't have an easy way to get his C.D. forum count from before the time my previously collected data began.

Damn, my posting rate is slowing. I just checked it.

*runs to Buying Tips forum and answers "Yes" to all the Dell 24" monitor threads*

My post count just increased by 1000 per day thanks to those threads.

@Yellow: Who are you? :p

mkrishnan, new to the Top 50, is in the Top 25.

Seven members are no longer in the Top 50 list:

mischief just barely stayed among the Top 50.

Four members managed to retain their position in the Top 50 list:

Changes at the top: wdlove (now #2) and eyelikeart (now #3) swapped places. Doctor Q joined the Top 10, while bousozoku left the Top 10 to became #11.

--- Excluded members ---

Members Macrumors and MacBytes, who represent site posts, not real members, are excluded.

Unregistered or banned members are not included and will not be discussed further, by site policy. For the record, King Cobra would have been #15 and tazo would have been #44.

--- Posts ---

Highest number of posts in 6 months:
mkrishnan, with 4,785

Next-highest:
PlaceofDis, with 3,855, Blue Velvet with 3,504, wdlove with 3,088.

All of these counts are larger than the previous 6 month period, during which nobody made over 3,000 posts.

emw missed the Top 50 by 86 posts despite making 2,860 posts in 6 months, which is more posts than edesignuk made in the preceding 6 months (the highest posting rate at that time).

Lowest:
AlphaTech, with no posts since April 2003, yet still in the Top 25!

Next-lowest:
Durandal7, with only 1 net post over 6 months (3 new posts, offset by the loss of 2 posts when threads were removed), and eyelikeart, with 4 net posts over 6 months.

Seven members made more than 2,000 posts in 6 months yet did not make the Top 50: emw, iGary, mad jew, Mitthrawnuruodo, Applespider, Bear, daveL

Can we do a "slowest poster-who-goes-on-it-reguarly-(seemingly-only-for-F1-comments)but-hasn't-got-a-tar-despite-being-a-member-for-3-years" award? :D ;) Seriously, I'm trying to find a way to get a 'tar here? Is $25 dollars the only legit option?

Actually, being a contributor (while an excellent idea) doesn't get you an avatar, only surpassing 500 posts and being judged in the bikini contest will get you an avatar. Get those zones waxed!

Even $25 won't do it. You really need to get 500 posts to get a 'tar. Post More! I know its a difficult number to reach, I feel like I'm always here and yet I don't have one either.

Actually, not even that will get you a 'tar! Becoming a Contributor only results in you becoming a Demi God/Goddess, and does not grant you an avatar right away - you'd still need to hit the magic 500 post mark! But who cares, really, after all it's just a little picture... ;)

Edit: Beaten twice - damn!

That's interesting. So a month or so ago when I wanted to see if you could do this for me, I didn't know that the almighty Doctor Q was also limited by the search feature. I had no idea. I had wondered if you had some kind of magic machine that you used to automate your extrapolation. :D

Isn't it amazing how much we (some of us) want to quantify our existance?! No matter, I've got 1,785 posts at a rate of 0.97 posts per day. :D :D

It's funny you bumped this thread back up...have you noticed that there were hardly any 601s last time we talked about this, and now there are just tons of them? Are we really that bad? ;)

Well, I don't know about me, but SOME people... :D

I've been waiting for an update on this one for a while, it's one my my favorite applications of Doctor Q's passion (obsession? sickness?).

It's funny, you're way off your projected pace (for early Jan 2006)..

Code:
Proj Projection Proj Curr Delta
Rank Jan. 4, 2006 Posts Rank Rank
---- -------------- ----- ---- -----
  7 mkrishnan 9,676 23 +16
 25 emw 5,783 -- --
 38 yellow 4,616 49 +11

What happened?

Well, you can always go post in the latest F1-related thread.....things will pick up for you once the racing season starts. :D

That's an easy one, at least for me and mkrishnan. You see, I believe that the good Doctor's stats are flawed in one sense - they are calculated based on a 6-month cycle. Since neither of us were on the January 2005 list (hadn't been members for 6 months by then) our posts counts up until then were ignored.

However, since by July of 2005 we were here for the requisite amount of time, our total posts were assumed to be 6-month values. That is, at the time I had something like 2800+ posts. By assuming those posts were all within the 6-month window, he essentially doubled it to get to the 5700+ number shown in your list.

However, that ignores that 10 months worth of posts were included in that original number, so by using that same 2800 posts and extrapolating it based on a 10-month number to the current 16 month calculations, you'd get roughly 4480 posts by January of 2006. I am currently just under 4400 posts, so I've been relatively consistent.

I could probably do the same math for Mohan, but I'm too lazy ;)

As to if that's a good thing or not, I can't comment.

Edit: of course, you're well over your projected total by January. Another flaw in the calculations - it can't predict posting acceleration. Perhaps he'll have to go locate 600 or so posts of yours that aren't all that helpful and delete them to maintain the accuracy of the prediction. :D

Eeeep! I have 7000+ posts here!!?!?!? :D

Yes, I definitely agree with EMW... Plus for me... I come here a lot in between semesters and clinic rotations. So right now I'm posting a lot, but I posted relatively less since October, because I'm either in the hospital, writing reports, in class, or at Camp Boggy Creek. Or occasionally out cavorting with my friends. But sadly not nearly as often as I'd like in the past few months. :(

By tradition, my Top Posters obsession doesn't start until a few days into January and July, so I'm gonna keep obsessing over some other projects for a few more days. But I'll be dusting off the abacus and crystal ball in about a week.

NooooOOOOooooo!! My precious spam!

"What happened?" was more a rhetorical question to poke some good natured fun, and keep the thread alive long enough until the good Doctor noticed it (good job peeps!) and confirmed that we'll have updated stats in a couple weeks.

Cheers!

Clearly you're glad to be back at work and focused on the tasks at hand. :)

And #32, not bad..

I'd like to thank my many worthless posts that made this possible, my agent Morey, my hair dresser Mr. Fantastic, and my wife.. we made it baby!!
