If you "fired" At&t 2 months ago, why do you care so much what they do?

It's like when you dump a girl. Does it really matter who she is dating/sleeping with after you? No it doesn't, because you made the decision to move on......

LOL. Good point. Sounds like he's bitter.

Today I left AT&T and their 2gb unlimited data plan. I switched to Verizon. Lucky for me I still have unlimited data with Verizon. So long AT&T. If you would of treated a loyal customer (5+ years) right, I would of stayed.

I don't like their shady practices, I can care about whatever I want, this is still America.

AT&T is a horrible company and by far the worst carrier in the US. They've only gotten worse in the last year look at everything they've pulled. They've dropped all text plans except the $20, raised upgrade fees, the shady dishonest way they've done this throttling, raised the price of the minimum data plans, slow pathetic LTE rollout, calling their whole network "4G" even in places where the "enhanced backhaul" doesn't exist. I had enough and went to Verizon and now get 20 mbps LTE speeds basically everywhere I go, and double data. Not saying Verizon is perfect but AT&T has been far worse especially this last year, very consumer unfriendly. Personally if I still had AT&T "unlimited" I would just tell them to stick it and go to Verizon or Sprint or some other company that doesn't treat it's customers like crap.

Did the samething. Switched to Verizon iPhone. So far so good.

This issue was mentioned on The Drudge Report this morning. Link above. This issue is getting noticed now. So congrats to all you "immature complainers" out there. The article did a good job of articulating the difference between how AT&T and Verizon throttle customers and how AT&T is far more restrictive. Keep it up boys.

It's on Yahoo! now, as well. We "immature complainers" are helping to get the these corporate bullying tactics to the press and hopefully get something done about it.

Whoa, a couple articles on the internet out of the millions of articles everyday. tidal wave is approaching. Look out all! FYI, read 5 articles last week how kitty litter and cat fecies causes bacteria in humans brains to make humans less fearful. I suppose the kitty litter movememnt made those articles appear, kudos to them just like you all.

basically, what you're all doing. really isn't doing much. And in the end, when things remain the same, all this talk and writing for nothing, 'tis a shame.

No, an article on Yahoo doesn't quite represent a tidal wave, as you put it. But you may notice that the article on Yahoo was a re-copy from the Associated Press. Perhaps you've heard of them? And there are plenty of other sites and paper publications that post articles from the AP. Not to mention that there are plenty of other mainstream news sources running similar stories today. USAToday, FoxNews, CBS affiliates, The Washington Post..to name a few. While AT&T may not concern themselves with an article here or there on a tech site, they may at least take notice that this story is now appearing on mainstream news sites.

However, this will result in nothing happening. You do know that right? I mean really? A slow news monday, couple sites pick up on a AP story written by some NY Times reject writer, and suddenly the world is changing?

A) It's cell phone data you all are work up about CELL PHONE DATA! Which furthermore in a contract you sign, states they can put such limitations in place!!!!!!!1
B) The AP writes about any generic crap that rolls for the day, they are not the standard in news.
C) You really think AT&T cares if they're being spoken of for having this issue? Really, I mean really? If they cared, they'd have released a statement, something, but no. They're oh so quiet.

Also I'm all for debate, but name calling isn't needed. Your opinion is just as retarded as mine, but I'm not attacking you, I"m attacking your thoughts, theres a difference!

Ha ok, fair point. No more name calling. For the record, I don't have the unlimited plan anymore. I had never gone over 1GB so when the 2GB plan came out and was $5 cheaper I went with that. I however don't like a big company changing the terms of an agreement. There has to be a better way for them to go about this.

And I agree with you that AT&T probably won't change their practices because of this. But if they did it wouldn't be the first time that a company changed their mind after they got slammed in the press.

Well of course, youre saving what $60/year. Good for your wallet and saving account, smart move. Hope the money saved goes towards good stuff.

And no doubt, yes news can chang the course of things, no denying that. But, and the one big "but" in this, is when these folks complaining of being throttled have it in contracts and amended ones, they really have no legs to stand on!

Anyway, fun banter, glad we can chat!

It's gasoline you all are worked up about. GASOLINE! Suppose one day they put a limit on how much gasoline you can use in a month. If you went over your limit you'd have to walk everywhere instead.

My point is that cell phones and wireless devices are becoming more integrated into our lives each passing year ("green" arguments aside). Just because it might seem insignificant to you doesn't mean that it is to everyone else. Like the article's example, some people use their phone data as part of their business and livelihood. When it's rendered nearly useless, it makes a huge impact.

And yes the contract states they can make changes. But that doesn't say specifically that in the future they will put limitations on their unlimited plans. If people had known that when they signed the contract, I'm sure most would have been turned away from it.

It seemed to work over Godaddy and their support of SOPA. They changed their minds after the backlash from users of the online news sites that presented the information.

GoDaddy (and MANY others) changed their stance because of the sheer number of people who were outraged and doing something about it. With AT&T, it's a mere 5% of the few customers still on the 'Unlimited' plan.

The kicker is that all AT&T has to do to debunk any of the articles is restate what they already have... that they're throttling to help the masses and most of the public will side with them.

Those who need more data for their daily lives and are stuck with the barely useable throttled speeds are able to change their plan. While data might become a necessity to many, the 'unlimited' plan is not.

5% of 17 million is 850,000. That's a lot of people and would make a dent if we all decided to leave. If they had decided to completely get rid of unlimited and force everyone onto a tiered plan, it would be much more than 5% crying foul and seeking alternatives.

What you are not grasping is to them it would be a welcome dent. The reduced bandwidth would allow them to replace those subscribers with more than 4 million other subscribers with no increase in infrastructure.

Of course it is even better if they did stay and just lowered consumption or put up with throttling. And most of you are doing exactly that (I only see a very few actually leaving).

It's like an all you can eat buffet making things difficult for the 350lbs and up crowd. They really wouldn't mind if they never returned unless it was for something other than all you can eat.

A friend of mine is getting an iPhone 4S soon.

He asked to see mine in order to get a feel for it and test out the ATT network. He asked why my internet was so slow. I explained the top 5% issue.

He's going with Verizon because the internet was damn near unusable despite it being 2am on my phone.
LOL, that coulda been what, $2k+ in charges on a 2 year contract they missed out on. He was so close to going with AT&T because of the HSPA+ feature. Not anymore, all because I hit 2.1 GB and it represented the service to my friend.

Yes, he wouldn't be able to get the unlimited plan anyway, but I suppose it was the principal of how they're treating their grandfathered customers. Who am I to disagree.

ATT is fast when you get good signal and aren't throttled. Now that I'm on Verizon I can see the speed diffrence. :( I hope I get used to the difference. It won't be an issue once LTE arrives. :D

The only equivalent is "all you can eat" gasoline which is a fantasy therefor the analogy fails.

If someone has been throttled or warned about being throttled and then uses Netflix for entertainment on their business smartphone, on 3G, they are an idiot.

Take away streaming and it's very difficult to go over 2GB--or even 1GB. I use my iPhone for business every day and today, 10 days through my billing cycle, I have used a whopping 85MB of data. All I do is use WiFi when it is available.

I take it he ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

You are right, your choice. I guess I don't see the point of getting worked up over something that doesn't effect my day to day. Too many other things to focus on...

Maybe you can start an "Occupy AT&T" movement

I think I already have here on MR, my Throttling thread was the first of the bunch, and although it is not going strong right now, some of the others still are. :)

Hey, your still here commenting on it, how does it feel to be an occupier? Now do my bidding minion.

Like I said, don't see the need to get all worked up over something that has no effect on my day to day......nor do I have the urge to start online petitions or think by starting message board threads will change anything....but hey, to each his own. More power to you

Wouldn't I have to support the premiss of this thread to be an "occupier"?

When is the tent city going up at AT&T headquarters?

Thats where you are wrong, all you have to do is occupy the thread, as you surly are. Do you think everyone at all of the occupy protests all felt or thought the exact same? NO way, if you ask why they are there most will give a different answer.

Even a troll (not referring to you Pete) will help the cause as they will keep the thread alive.
