I ordered in the first hour after the Apple Store went online again. Got a delivery date November 17-25, but my status is still "processing your order". Starting to get angry...

Same for a European delivery address. What's your location?

Very jealous of all the people here getting their orders! Enjoy :) Personally can't justify it as my Air still fulfills my needs, but would love to have one.

Can't believe people still get in a tizz over ports - look back in history, it is inevitable. And yes connectivity is one of the hidden costs of computing. A large part (or maybe all?) computing is transferring data from A to B, so whether it's your type of wifi, bluetooth, usb or whatever, all of these communications are continually being upgraded. That means all peripherals move a generation or two behind each time you upgrade. With the internet of things we have more and more peripherals and faster and faster upgrades. I was glad when Mac ditched floppies years before PCs. Meanwhile printers continued to be sold with floppies - remember when something would come with 12 floppies. 1/12, 2/12, 3/12 that was Microsoft's fault! Then we had the same with CD's, then CD readers, remember when it was all about CD read write speeds? I remember buying magazines just to see the comparative speeds of different CD writers - it seemed so important! Then the same with DVDs, firewire vs USB, those crazy screw in ports on PCs, speed of wifi, and for real geeks various busses inside the computer.

That guy making the comparison with car manufacturers who still sold tape machines and CDs well after their sell buy date, made the perfect comparison but drew the completely wrong conclusion. It's a bad thing, not a good thing. I don't want a tape machine in my car I want complete connectivity with Apple, which nowadays should be wireless. I bought a BMW in 2007 (about $60K) it had a tape machine and CD, its concession for phones/(ipods then) was an audio port which basically doesn't work. 60K and you can't listen to your tunes. Who needed cassettes in 2007? That is why I prefer the Apple way.

The rule is it gets better every year but your peripherals will age just as fast if not faster than your computer.

…most of which are within the first few minutes of ever using the Touch Bar.
People are like that with phones they demo, probably nerves, but with phones you are looking directly and even then there is a high miss rate. The touchbar, if it is supposed to work properly, should be more reliable than that because the user should not need to look down at it once he/she is used to it. A better design might have had small bumps or undulations dividing up finger sized sections at the left and right extremes, and leaving the middle blank like a spacebar for scrolling/dragging type operations. But I still can't see it as any better than a fifth wheel.

.. anyway we'll see when people start actually using them.

I didn't call you and entitled whiner, just characterising a lot of the complaints that I've read here! I guess as a 12" Macbook owner I've discovered what a non-issue it is having only USB-C.
Let's make that clear: it's a non-issue for you.

My wife would love to get a 12" MB for work. Unfortunately she needs to use a tiny USB-A device that normally is almost flush in the port, and is used for security. She cannot access the company network without it.

So, first, she'd need to carry a dongle at all times (she's in meetings a lot), and second, she couldn't charge the laptop without plugging in an external hub.

These are huge issues, enough to make it utterly impractical.

I ordered the lowest 13" touchbar to replace my ever annoying MBA 13" 2013 whose fan blows like there's no tomorrow when weather is warm, which extremely slows down everything.

Ordered few minutes after the store went online with student discount, still showing processing orders now with delivery 17-24 Nov with my CC already charged. I'm in the UK.

No let's make it clear. It's a non issue for many.

I'm sorry it doesn't suit your wife's circumstance. They are awesome machines for being constantly on the move.

You don't think humans have the capacity to see something and understand that it's not practical?

I've used an iPad to type, and guess what? it sucks.

In the same fashion as an iPad, you'll have to take your eyes away from the screen to look down at the keyboard to see what key you're touching. Nothing will ever beat tactile keys in the realm of typing with your hands.

Watch how painfully delicate the tech blogger from The Verge is while typing, and keep track of how many times he has to hit the touch bar multiple times because he failed hitting the button correctly.

I refuse to pay $600 more for a down grade in productivity. Just because Tim Cook and the rest of his out of touch senior citizen team thinks it's cool, doesn't make it better.

So please, enough with the touch bar already.

Remember the iPod and iPhone when they were first introduced years ago? Along with all the rejection that ensued before people actually tried them?

So much for people being able to see something and understand it's not practical...

That's 3 mishits in 18 (and 2 in 10) secs...
Given his tone of voice, the guy is too excited/overexposed to control his actions anyway
In such circumstances, only a truly intuitive UI would work

What was your mistake rate the very first time you used a mouse or keyboard? Were you able to quickly improve over time?

Seeing that video made me change my mind on the Touchbar. Up until now I thought it was mostly gimmicky, but it does seem to have some usefulness.

Ars Technica has posted their review of the 13" and 15" macbook pro laptops.

An interesting titbit:

The AMD graphics cards appear to have been specifically chosen because only they allow for up to 2 5k displays to be used with the 15" laptops. Nvidia graphics cards can support one 1 5k external display. I am not sure if this was intentional (not everything is going to be pairing their MacBooks with 2 5k monitors), but that's that. They still can't support VR though, so I guess this isn't a market Apple is interested in competing in.

Lol at the people who complain but they end up buying them because "they need to", remember at the end of the day if you buy these you are explicitly supporting these greedy "upgrade" practices, with those profit margins even if they sell less they will see it as success and PR it all over the place. In case you are undecided, go try them for yourself at the store and bear in mind the following "less than impressed" pattern upon arrival from pro-Apple press:

Here in the UK, Still at Processing Items.. Anyone in the UK got a dispatch yet?

My uk order is the same but they have authorised payment on my Barclaycard. I ordered at 27minutes past so expected to be front of the queue.

My MBP shipped, but he charge for the device has gone away. It's in route to be delivered.. but no charge. Anyone else facing this issue?

Are all the shipment notifications coming up now related to space gray models? Or has anyone actually ordered a silver one?
