Apple should include an option to change the sensitivity in the next iOS update. I don't mind checking notifications with the wake/sleep button. But when i am not and just happen to use the touch ID sensor to use the phone, and also happen to have lots of notifications on the screen without me knowing, i cannot read any of them. It's annoying.

There has to be a better way.

I don't think Apple anticipated this as a problem. I really like it but I can respect those with different wants that are disappointed. This could be easily fixed with some sort of read delay setting. Unsure if Apple will ever care to do that but I am sure jaikbreak will make it happen.
I don't want a read delay. I like the bear instant response. Seems a bit overkill when the home button is available.

No such thing as too fast.
Speed is always good:)

That's NOT what she said. Sorry. I had to... :p

I was a bit annoyed by this as well at first, but I just adjusted to use my fingernail instead if I just want to see the notifications, and use my regular thumb position if I want to unlock. Took a day of repetitive relearning at most but it's a non issue now. I had too many misreads on the iPhone 6, and was more frustrated by that than I was of this being too fast. Plus, if you want to see your notifications, and the device unlocked before you could see them, just pull down on the notification window from the top of the page. The notifications are still there. It's not like they go away forever.

I hear you.
I got tons of misreads on my 6 Plus. And it takes a good 2-3 seconds to read and unlock it.
I tend to avoid it and just go for the passcode instead.

It's too fast for me. Using a different finger isn't always an option, not unless you have two thumbs on each hand. You can use a different part of your thumb, but why not just implement a configurable delay in the software. I thought the timing of the 6 unlock was pretty spot-on and intuitive.

Is it just me or has 9.0.2 caused a lag in response time to Touch ID? I press it and it takes one or two seconds for the screen to light up

On 9.0.1 it was instantaneous

My space gray 6s+ looks a bit more sub orbital silver than I was expecting and I am quite pissed about it. Why can't Apple make me a phone to my exact over the top specifications for a reasonable sum of money Apple, why!?!?!

I don't understand way it can't just open slower when I want to read notifications or show the Lock screen and fast when I want to get to an app.

There has to be a better way.
My simple solution: Use 3D Touch on the display to show the lock screen notifications. Although that might require new hardware to detect pressure even when the screen is off. Could use a bit of battery too.

I think the iPhone 7 won't have a home button. 3D Touch on the screen to view the lock screen as a "peek", then press deeper to Touch ID "pop" into your iPhone. Then, perhaps, they can add a third layer to 3D Touch: The home button. Press even deeper for a stronger taptic feedback that takes you back to the home screen when inside any app.

I agree that it's lightening fast now but I LOVE it!

I used my password more often than not on my 6+ because the touch ID just sucked! no matter how often I redid them and even had both my thumb and pointer finger in there twice...

I do like the tips in this thread for being able to see the lock screen notifications!

What I just did was redo my fingerprint. This time I left the top "edge" of my fingerprint on my thumb out. I had included it before so even when I tried to press with the top of my finger it unlocked a majority of the time. Now a flat finger unlocks and pressing down with the tip can check notifications.

Still wish it was the old method which I thought was perfect but this will do for now. Hopefully I still get near 100% accuracy plus the speed and able to check notifications now.

I love the speed and wouldn't want to give it up but I admit that notifications are an issue. I see just enough of a flash of the lock screen to see there are notifications there, if I'm paying attention, but obviously the 50mS or so glimpse is nowhere near enough to actually see what's there.

I'd quite like a new icon on the status bar that would be displayed after unlocking to let me know that, at the time of the unlock, there were notifications on the lock screen that I won't have seen. That way I know whether, after unlocking, I have to swipe down to see what was there. Maybe that icon on the status bar could also be made "hot" so that I could tap on it to see the notifications rather than swiping down. In either case, swiping down or tapping the icon, iOS would then know I have looked at the notification and so could remove the icon from the status bar.

This seems like a reasonable solution to me that keeps effectively instantaneous unlock but still makes it pretty easy to know about and access any notifications that were on the lock screen.

Id just like to be able to see these notifications AFTER turning the phone on..many now are no longer available other than on the lock screen.

Something is just glitchy with the Touch ID. It just need a small tweak of the software.

It opens WAY too fast. As soon as you press the home button it's unlocked with no chance to see the lockscreen notifications unless you use a non-registered finger.

It needs some latency to turn the screen on an give the user a chance to lift their finger off it still to see the notifications. If the finger stays it reads super fast and unlocks.

For those reading what JoeTomasone has been saying, you can use Touch ID without triggering it on the Lock Screen.

This is what I've been doing: Press and swipe, like you're smudging your fingerprint.

No need to change to a different finger or use your nose, no need to lift your finger off, as long as you don't keep it on the Home Button for too long.

This fingerprint issue is not that serious. Just fix the god damn Camera app when listening to music.

The camera app issue is serious?
I'm actually surprised not a lot of people find this annoying. Music stops every time I turn on the camera in photo mode with Live Photos off. My life would be so much better without Live Photos.

Confirmed, music stops when the camera app is opened. I could see where this could be annoying to some extent.

I like the TouchID unlocking without any delay. I came from iPhone 5 and I think it should work like this. It actually saves you time against passcode and sitll only you can unlock it. What I don't find working well is the view full content of the 3D Touch. You should press really too hard to activate it and I feel like breaking the screen, it's useless. If you lower 3D touch sensitivity, then it activates almost everytime if you want to drag an icon for example.

I haven't found what you are saying about 3D touch. Maybe your phone has to be looked at it you might be pressing lightly thinking your pressing heavily.
