I just got back from the Apple Store. I was set on with a return and they ended up offering a swap with a brand new device.

So starting my 60 days over with the option to add AppleCare+. I am hoping that this fixes my keyboard issues. I’ll keep y’all updated with my findings.

How many days within the return period were you in?

Waaaaay past lol. I had like 20 days left to add AppleCare. It was a launch day purchase.
Thank you for the info, did your swap come from a white box phone or new packaging?

The issue I have is my schedule is pretty crazy, one day in one city another day in another due to work needs. My best option would be if I could do an express replacement. Unsure how that would work with a new phone.

I just tested the keyboard on a 15 pro max 18.0.1 and a screen protector, and I was unable to replicate the issue I’m having with my 16 pro max 18.0.1 with no screen protector.
That rules me out as the problem thankfully lol, so something’s up…

What is the exact issue you are having?

Brand new phone, retail box.

So. To make this thread a little more informal, let us agree on the different touch issues that exist so that we can refer to them.

Issue A: Touch screen does not react to taps or swipes intermittently (repeated tap/swipe required).

Comment on A: Users have reported that this issue has been solved by replacing the phone.

Issue B: Touch feels laggy. It reacts but not immediately (most noticeable when typing quickly on the keyboard).

Comment on B: Users have reported that this issue has been solved by replacing the phone.

Issue C: Parts of the screen near the edges never react to touch input (the right part of P or backspace button on keyboard near the edge of the screen)

Comment on C: Most likely caused by palm rejection algorithm in place because the bezels are so thin.

Issue D: When area near camera control is touched the entire display stops responding to touch

Comment on D: Solved with iOS 18.0.1.

Great way to summarise.

I suffer from Issue A only.

I also only have A but it must be added that replacing the phone did not always help. Some reported that new ones also had the same problem.

Of course. You can get another device with the same issue. The point is that some users had the problem solved completely with a replacement.

Issue A from time to time but most of the time it's very sensitive still think its software. One time I had to click on an app 6 times to open but usually I barley tap and they open. Issue C also but its constant. I'm going to wait a month or 2 to see how this pans out. Hopefully if it is a bad screen they can swap the screen. I'm a power user and its a pain to restore everything with all the passwords etc.

This is why I'm holding off for now. its a headach swapping and going to apple etc.

Not using iCloud Keychain?

The exchange is risky because you can get a new device with even worse defects - blue screen, weak speaker, blue night photos, dust in the camera lens, scratched titanium frame and the touch screen may still be bad. This year's iPhones are very flawed.

My recommendation is to inspect the device at the Apple Store and if any issues are found just return it. Repeat until you get a perfect unit.

The blue night shots can easily be tested by putting the phone in a backpack for darkness.

I think I’ve never noticed this recently. Perhaps because it never caused me issues. So yet if I try and tap that 30% towards the end of the space bar it won’t respond. Doesn’t really concern me that much. But I certainly hope Apple resolve it for others that it does cause issues with.
That happens on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, but also on my 13 Pro Max, I had never noticed it until I tried it.

Excellent summary, it's much clearer that way. I only have issue C, which for me is not a problem.

I have a year (2 in EU) to replace it so I won't rush and risk getting a worse one. I hope the touch issues will be fixed with an update and if not, well, then I'll replace it.

I remember after the premiere of 15 pro max some people had burn in screens after a short time of use and others had good ones. Also then people were sure that it was a hardware problem and some exchanged for new ones that did not have this problem. As you well know, it turned out that the software was to blame and the update solved the problem and the screen burns disappeared as if they had never been there before.

I took my phone back to the Apple store..They gave me a loaner..Went back 5 days later. They swapped out my phone without telling me..I was under the impression they fixed my phone..

So what’s the best way to do a factory restore on your iPhone these days? In the past, I used iTunes to do that, but I don’t think it’s available anymore.
