Thanks for clearing that out, think this brings us to another interesting speculation point. What if they’re actually having out-of-spec variations on the screens (which I would btw classify as hardware defect) this can in some extent be handled with software fix, but a bit more challenging to fix in a good way without also bringing new issues to the table. This can actually fit in to what we are seeing, randomly spread issues. All due to screens not 100% controlled to be within spec. Not an uncommon problem with new hardware.
If this has been mentioned before I apologise.

Regardless what the root cause is, there should never be a lottery to buy a device that costs as much as a decent pre-owned car.

It is unacceptable that two identical 16 Pro Max with the same software behaves like this.

I am sure Apple will do good and replace the faulty devices but now that I have done my own replacement I feel confident to recommend: replace - don't wait for a software update.

The new dbrand prism 2.0 is supposed to be very thin.

Hey!

I just got my 16 Pro Max yesterday and it is a great phone. But I am having serious issues with the touch sensitivity on the display. I am using a Belkin Screen Protector installed by the staff at Apple Store and I notice that the screen is sometimes unresponsive to touch. It is most apparent while typing on the keyboard or playing games that require lots of touch actions.

Anyone else experiencing the same issue? I consider removing the screen protector to see if it helps but I am not very keen on using a $1500 phone unprotected.

Hoping that it is a software issue and not hardware.

/ Jacob
This happened to me on day one of using my phone. So it’s clearly not the screen protector.

Everyone can do the touch screen test themselves at home: “If someone wants to check their touch screen, let them turn off their phone, wait 30 seconds. Then press and hold the vol up and vol down button (2 at the same time) and connect the phone to the charger. When the Apple logo appears, release the buttons. The phone will turn on in self-test mode. Accept the terms of use, connect to your local Wi-Fi network and you can choose the touch screen test. I think that for many people this will clarify the situation whether it is the hardware or software that is faulty.”
I tried this test and one box on the bottom left corner needed few swipes to colour but it happened every time. What would that mean?

thats the battery manufacturing date actually and i have checked it with the apple team , mine shows july 2024 on the phone but my phone is manufactured august 2024 lol its probably 1month gap
Oh ok thanks for letting me know. I actually thought it was the date that the phone was going manufactured haha,

Is this the test you guys are conducting? By pressing the grey areas under the q and p button and coming to the conclusion that the p button is not as responsive and missing intermittently?

You mean out of spec similar to those people who went to the Apple Store and the Genius Bar replaced their device since multiple Belkin screen protectors wouldn’t install due to a warped screen? Interesting.

Yes similar to that, but in this case it can be different parameters. With new spec screens (6.3”,6.9”) from different suppliers, there might be some challenges to assure all to required conformity, where small deviations can have effect. When thinking of the pattern it seems to be, it hits randomly.
Edit: typo

It’s K for autoself test, but of you want to change your phone, this must do Apple at Genius Bar.
For exemple my phone was Day one and todai it was 31 days to change

I’ve not experienced any touch/touch screen repeated issues since I installed 18.1 beta 7. With 18.1 RC installed, I am still not experiencing any issues.
Installed 18.1 RC on my 16 Pro yesterday. Issue is definitely still there on my phone.

Hi there,
My brother just bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max and is facing a screen issue where it doesn't respond after a few taps but works again afterwards. Does anyone know the reason behind this? Sorry, this thread is quite long, and I won’t be able to read it all. Could someone please provide a solution?

See attached for the approximate areas. Thanks

I am unable to recreate the problem using my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I can rest my thumb/palm over those areas and still scroll up and down. In addition, I can type on and around those letters all day long and each tap on the keyboard registers on the screen as it should. Dis you get your device on launch day?

You can proof to go at Apple store for a display test.

Exactly the same thing happens to me... I did a screen test and everything came out perfect, I hope it's a software problem. On the other hand, screen protectors reduce sensitivity, without a protector everything works OK...

assuming there is a guy here who has two same phones with same setup and one is showing the problems and the other is perfectly fine, it is more then liokely that it is a hardware issue and you should better exchange your product .
