Tried the iPhone 5 at the Apple Store Today

Apple doesn't need to "get with the program". Apple is the program. They will sell more iPhone 5s than Samsung will ever sell S3s. If screen size is the major factor in determining your smartphone preference, then I guess things like build quality, OS stability and resale value don't matter to you.

This.

So I tried the iPhone 5 at the Apple Store today. Just as I expected, the screen was not impressive as it is still so puny compared to every other major smartphone on the market. It really needs more surface area, specifically width, in order to be useful to do things like reading webpages in portrait mode comfortably. A 4 inch 16:9 screen was good.......3 years ago. This is 2012, get with the program Apple. Trying the iPhone 5 out in person has cemented by decision to go with something else for my next smartphone. After trying the Samsung Galaxy S3 and seeing its much larger screen, my God, what a revelation on what I've had to put up with on the tiny screens of iPhones.

Congrats! The iPhone in general is not for everyone. You did your research and made a sound buying decision, based on your personal needs.

Unfortunately, some people jump on board to a particular platform prior to any discovery and are disappointed. More people should do as you. This practice would eliminate many unhappy/unsatisfied consumers. Enjoy your new device.

I am currently using both phones on ATT and I have to say as nice as the S3 screen is, the screen is a tad to big to hold and I have hands big enough to palm a basketball. There are constant updates to apps on my phkne but the Android updater never tells me what they are fore, but the phone is pretty smoooth and I feel by leaps and bounds the best Android phone to date can not imagine trying to hold a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, as I have to type with this SG3 in lanscape hurts my hands in portrait. I thought at first having a bigger screen would be better but not so much and a lot of apps are really buggy on this phone plus the built in apps are akways trying to update fairly annoying, but ics is smooth.

Everyone has different tastes but for me now that I haveuhaveused both for over a week I can say I am sticking with the iPhone maybe not the 5 but for sure my 4S if I do not keeep the 5

Before you bash any device have the decency to give it a fair shot, that being said this is an iPhone forum, and if you were in the androidforums.com I would expect there will be sone bashing in the iPhone.

Good Luck with your choice but be sure of your choice before you buy, the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the street

You fit that all in your pant pockets? Impressive.

The reason the iPhone is the designed the way it is is because it is possible to use it with one hand comfortably. The iPhone has the largest possible screen you can use one handed. It could not be any bigger as my 6'1" tall person fingers would have to uncomfortably stretch or move the phone around if it were bigger.

If Apple wanted they could add a 5.5" edgeless display and make the biggest screened phone in the world and it would still be thinner, lighter and have less volume than the S3. They didn't because they beleive if you want to use something two handed it should be an iPad or iPad mini:

Anyways, the Galaxy S3 also has much worse quality in every dimensions, screen quality is abysmal, build quality is abysmal, and with the US dual core version it's slower too.

If you like phones with bigger screens and don't consider any other quality why not just buy a galaxy note? It's slightly larger than the S3 with a much larger screen?

I really like the size of the iPhone 5 and think that it is just the right size, it's the biggest possible without sacrificing 1 handed usage, which meets my usage prefference very well.

I like the size of the iPhone 5 and I really like the new style two-tone back. I played with the SG3 at best buy and found it clunky, too large, and awkward to not only navigate but just hard too hold. While "making a call" it looked like I was holding a dinner plate next to my face.

I like the new iPhone. The battery life leaves a little to be desired but other than that I'm very pleased.

Don't bother saying "get with the program Apple" since they go their own way and will never listen to you or any other individual wanting something wider or larger.

Apple stated just a few weeks ago, they want a phone that is easy to hold and use with one hand. Just leave this iphone forum and enjoy your Samsung. No need to vent on this forum ever, since we don't care nor does Apple. We buy the iPhone because we want to. Simple for us to go else where but we don't like Samsungs, nor Android OS. Its really that simple.

Seriously? Why all the hate? He just posted a comment about the screen for heavens sake. Man, Apple fanboys are so defensive. It really shouldn't affect anyone whether this guy likes it or not. He opinion certainly didn't make my iPhone stop working.

Making fun of the OS names, really??? What's next for us OSX Tabby?

No joke, while I agree all those Andriod OS names are pretty silly, not like OSX hasn't used them for years as well.

Better then vending machine items ;) but I was referring to mobile systems not OSX.

I don't know the exact reason for the "hate", either but if you check his posts, he does seem to have quite a strong distaste for the iPhone, and his posts "seem" to be created to stir up the pot. Not that something like that is necessarily a bad thing, but if you already have the opinion that a 4 inch screen is so "2010", then why would you need to check it out? You know the screen isn't any wider. That kind of pointlessness kinda shows that the OP just wants to breed unrest.

I agree with his right to post what he feels but at some point I say why continue to post in these forums with what is basically unnecessary ranting. Still his choice to do what he wants. Every one of my posts haven't been helpful but the majority of them are.

Just like we have the right to defend a product we enjoy :)

It's not hate, his argument (statement) simply isn't sound. His entire comparison and complain is that iPhone screen size is small hence he consider it out of date, while samsung phone screen is getting bigger so it's better (not out of date)? The fact that screen size is bigger or smaller that's a FACT, can't argue against that. But he then use that fact to say samsung is better. If he had simply said "I don't like small screen, I like my screen big because I have huge hands or huge pockets". Now, that is personal choice, and that's perfectly fine.

It's clear for many the iPhone 5 is still smaller than they would like.

I do wish Apple would also offer a larger / wider device maybe they will at some point?

Android fanboys are far much worse... (I have a GS3 so i've looked around those forums)

The ideal screen size is subjective; not everyone wants a huge screen and not everyone wants a small screen.

This is exactly the point. If something else better suits your needs, then go for it! That's the good news about the smart phone market these days- you DO have choices.
What frustrates me is that some people think their personal preference is RIGHT in an absolutist sense... Get what works best for you, chill and enjoy it and let others decide what works best for them. Why do we need to have 1000 threads about 'my screen's bigger than your screen'? Screen envy?

U do know whatever android u buy now will be outdated next week right droids come out damn near weekly at least with iPhone we get at least a year space

HAHAHA!!! Brilliant!!

Seriously why do people moan so much about a product, you dont like it, send it back! And go elsewhere..What were you expecting? A phone which could wipe your ass???

I have had an iphone 3GS / 4 and now and this iphone 5 its is the best one ever!!! I dont want a wider screen!!! I see people on the tube with the bigger smart phones and they are all finger and thumbs...while im casually browsing, texting or gaming with just one hand!

[1] There is no such thing as the iPad Mini.
[2] The build quality of the iPhone 5 is also abysmal. See all the threads around here.
[3] I would get the international version of the Galaxy S3 if I finally choose to get that model.
[4] The battery life of the international Galaxy S3 is much better than any iPhone.
[5] The Galaxy S3 has maps that actually work.....
[6] The Android YouTube app is light years ahead of what is available on the iPhone.
[7] I am also considering the Samsung Galaxy Note II but it hasn't been released yet for purchasing and I want to try it out in person to see if it would actually be too big for me. I know the size of the Galaxy S3 is good, but I am curious about whether the Galaxy Note II would also be good.
[8] I have a 3-year contract with my iPhone 4.......
[9] I have no issue holding large phones.
