With the PS Vitas, the slim with LCD has longer battery life over the phat with OLED.

I guess it just depends how you are using it that day. Video playback or streaming, iPhone X will likely win. All the letter/pillar boxing will help it. General usage overall, it could be nearly the same...

Both do charge slow even with fast charging. MrWhosetheBoss proved that to me. Give me 75 minutes tops on my LGs. Others like Pixels and iPhones need nearly two hours for fast charging. Trickle charge is so slow. Even my SE takes awhile going from 94% to 98%.

LCD = favors whites, better for browsing
OLED = favors blacks, better for video playback

I owned an 8+ for a weekend (returned to Sprint due to atrocious service) and have had the X since Friday. Based on my usage thus far, the 8+ was noticeably better, though the X is an upgrade from my non-plus 7.

Time will tell, but I'm not terribly impressed with the X's battery life thus far. With a slightly larger battery than the plus, I'm curious why it's battery life is not better.

The difference in capacity between X and 8 Plus is 25 mAh. That's 1/10 the size of the Apple Watch battery. In other words, there's no difference.

Any difference in power consumption is largely the result of OLED vs. LCD. Apple has been refining LCD for many years, so it's no surprise the Plus beats the X in most cases.

Do you know what "slightly" means? Would "infinitesimally larger" satisfy your didactic tendencies?

That's one part of it, sure.

I came from a 7 Plus to an X and I have found the X battery life to far exceed the 7 Plus. Yesterday I got 14 hours of standby and 6 hours of usage on the X with about 40% battery left by the end of the day.

So far today I’ve got 66% left and I’m at 5 hours 22 mins usage and 12 hours 40 mins standby. The X was plugged into my Mac for about 15 mins today to sync some music.

My X's battery isn't so good. Yesterday I got about 6.5 hours of usage until it died.
Today I am at 62% with 3 hr 8 min of usage and 7 hr, 58 min of standby.

I did have my Apple watch on yesterday - may be a culprit. Today I left the apple watch at home and have bluetooth turned off. Let's see how it is by end of day.

I don't understand how some people are getting 10+ hours usage with some battery percentage left to spare. Are all batteries not created equal in this scenario?

What I have noticed:

(1) Battery life consistently worse than 8 Plus.

(2) I have poor reception at home, the X seems to perform poorly battery wise here. When at home, if I am connected to WiFi and turn off LTE under Settings (Cellular Data Options, Enable LTE - set that to Off) that seems to help.

(3) I was in an area of good cell coverage yesterday, and the battery seemed to be better there with LTE set to Voice and Data (so the regular setting.)

My X is Model A1901 in case that makes a difference at all. It has been speculated the Intel and Qual versions deliver different results. The battery on the X is no where near the 8 Plus.

Today’s rundown includes mostly Wifi browsing twitter and imessage at home and a 1 hour netflix over LTE with airpods, currently at 3h45m and 63% with 7 hours off the charger. The 1 hour streaming session took about 9% with the brightness via auto set around 40%, airpod volume at 75%

I’m in the same boat as you. I see all these folks talking about getting great battery life and I’m just like where?

My battery life seems to last longer on the X than my 8 plus. No scientific evidence. Just seems that way after 3 days use.

So I think my battery life is very decent and compareable to my 7+. Maybe a bit worse but hardly noticeable.

The screenshot is at 36%

Wow you guys. 5 pages and no conclusion. Why do you think that is?

Here’s why. The batteries are obviously comparable. Close enough as to have mixed results. Close enough that without knowing and tracking every single variable, like signal strength, temperature, screen brightness, background app activity, etc., there can never be a way to define a clear battery life winner.

So maybe just let it go? Or just keep yammering on and on about it for another 5 pages.

My battery life seems close to my 7 Plus. I wouldn't say it's better, and wouldn't say it's worse.

Right now I'm sitting at 71% with 2 hrs, 56 mins usage and 10 hrs, 21 mins standby.

my 2 cents. My X is slightly worse than my previous 8 Plus that I had for 2 weeks, but they are very close to each other in terms of battery life. Subjectively, the 8 Plus would be still around 15% when the X dies.

Give it a few days to simmer. When I got my X last Friday, the battery life was horrible. The weekend wasn't any better. Yesterday when I took it to work it was at 56% by the end of my work day.

Today, it's the end of the day and I'm at 76%. That's after phone calls, 2 push e-mail accounts and my Apple Watch connected.

All you guys saying how great the x battery is, im wondering if i got a lemon. I woke up around 9am today with it fully charged, been using the phone to surf the web sporadically and text (no videos/music/gps) and its 3pm and my battery level says 16 %! Thats horrible. So we’re looking at maybe 8 hours to fully deplete. Screen brightness is at about 50 percent.

My old 7 with smart battery would last from when i woke up (around 830) to when i went to bed (1am) full brightness with still about 50 percent left and i would use it all day long for everything.

What usage time are you seeing during that time? Did you restore from backup?

My usage time right now says 6 hrs 2 min and im at 10 percent. Yes i restored from a backup as i didnt wanna lose my gamesaves. Is that good or bad?

I’d recommend starting with a reset all settings and let the power cycle a few times. You should see that time climb up. But I think 7-10 hours of usage depending on the usage type is to be expected.

Ill try that. Ive been using only iphones since the 3g and this is clearly the worst one as far as battery life goes. Granted the 6/7 were the best due to apple’s battery case. I hope they develop one for the X. I’m not using it any differently than the others, if anything i’m using it less intensely since i havent had time to say watch a movie on it yet or anything.

You're not alone. I just returned mine with about the same times as you. I could barely hit 8 hours of use.

I setup as new, and did a DFU restore to 11.1 as per Apple's request. 1.5 hours on the phone and it dropped 50%

Getting amazing battery coming from 8+ .. restored from iCloud and started using normally .. .no crazy use just because its new phone.

At 43% left

I'm not so sure that's amazing, my 2 year old 6S+ gets 10-12 hours usage consistently.

For an X which supposedly has a more efficient screen and a bigger battery than an 8+ it's not that good.
