Well they've done a tear down of the big iPod which revealed they are still using PortalPlayer.
I don't know if I'm right but I don't think anyones done a tear down analysis of the Nano yet.
I looked at the article that you have linked to but that article thats Samsung will be in future flash based iPod's.

So they could be in the nano.

You're indeed right they mention it to be for future flash based iPods... perhaps indeed the Nano has switched processors? I guess this ARM processor might as well be nice for a full screen iPod as it is fairly easy to get Linux (and probably darwin as well) running on such a processor. Also, as Leopard is resolution independant this might offer new possibilities :)

There is a cut down of the nano - no Portal Player chips.

Think Secret is desperate for attention to print THAT rumore. NO WAY Apple is going to intro the WS iPod before Jan now. No Way.

Apple had the perfect platform with the whole movie theme last week if they were going to even ANNOUNCE a WS player for pre-order, shipping late October, early Nov. The price cuts were not to prepare for the WS iPod, but to ensure that Zune and Zen did not get a price edge on the iPod.

This is just another unreliable rumour from Think Secret. Their strategy recently have been to write some rumors and then later "cancel" them with stories why it didn't come true or why it was delayed or something.

You have to be kidding me. I just bought one of the new 5.5G iPods.... DAMN IT! So, I guess I should be bringing it back to the store, or should I just hold on to it?

You have to be kidding me. You're considering returning a perfectly good product based on the unreliable rantings of a washed-up Mac rumours website?

Just send it to me, I'll appreciate it.

Well played. Well played, indeed. I guess I am over-reacting. The new iPod I just got is great, and it does everything I need, and that is what matters.

same reason I chose to replace the battery in my 40Gb 3G iPod in January, costing me £10 for a new lease of life (and 14hr battery life) rather than £300 on a new top of the line iPod.

However I will be lumping out for this touch based widescreen 'pod whenever it arrives. I think a replacement every 3rd generation is about acceptable :)

You mean for song sharing? Don't get your hopes up, they just added iPod-to-iTunes copying, and only that for copies with the same iTS account. Cool as it might be, we will never never see it. Zune's thing is just a gimmick to sell more songs online.

Oh, my hopes aren't up at all. I just think it would be an interesting inclusion. Whether it has it or not isn't going to change my decision to buy a widescreen iPod in the least.

And it would obviously be for song sharing pretty much exclusively. Wi-fi trading anything other larger than songs in file size would kill the battery pretty quick.

The Zune wi-fi may be a gimmick, but I'll wait until it releases and try it out before I cast judgement at it, but that's just me. At this point, the Zune is an intriguing device.

Though it's not by any means "perfect", but what's wrong with the current model? Why would a widescreen be considered "true" video ipod?
Doesn't playing video make it true?

Just curious.

That is why I never try to refer to is as a "true video ipod" because it insulsts my 5G video iPod, and when it gets angry... WATCH OUT!
:D

No the Widescreen Movies are 640x272 or 352 depending on the Widescreen ratio

There are more than two widescreen aspect ratios. 640x360 equates to 16:9, which wouldn't be the ratio for movies but would be for some television. And there are other aspect ratios besides these.

Apple would definitely go with 16:9. Anything more than that, and I think it'll be too long and just too big.

I can't see Apple releasing a new widescreen / video iPod until next year, there just isn't any business reasons to release it this year. The main threat to iPod sales over the next few months will be the Microsofts Zune, the latest updates and price cuts to the iPod range should be enough to see that off.

Why release a new product that wouldn't increase sales that much and is most likely just to cut in to sales of the existing product line? It makes more sense to spend more time getting it right and waiting for component prices to come down to enable them to sell it cheaper and make more margin.

Apple tend to keep one step ahead of the opposition with the iPod, there just isn't any reason to be two steps ahead.

ooooooooooooooooooof! enough is enough

Enough is enough...

I dont wanna hear about any "true (?!) video iPod news" anymore...

So we were expecting true iPod in the "It's Showtime" keynote, but Apple didnt release it.. Now we start to rumor about xmas? C'mon guys.. Lets be a little credible..

A true rumor site achievement would be finding out iTV before it was publicised.. but any of the sites couldnt do that.. Lets work more and find out what's "really" coming for holiday season...

It would be strange to preview iTV, which won't be out until 2007, but not preview a new iPod product that will be out this holiday season.
Do you really think Apple would kill off sales for their new 80GB iPod by telling everyone there's a new one on its way?

That's true, but if there really isn't a new widescreen iPod coming out, then no harm, no foul. I want it to come out, but that isn't going to make it happen. These rumors for the widescreen iPod are dubious at best (as much as I hope they come true:) ).

First, I would love to have a Video iPod.

I don't believe we will see them before the holidays. As others have stated, if SJ mentions iTV, then why would he not mention the Video iPod if it was coming so soon?

because iTV doesnt harm sales of any of the Apple's product line but a video iPod would kill about 50% sales of iPod 5G.. I believe that Apple would do something so pioneerish and release the full-screen iPod, but let Apple decide when and how they'll do that...

Very interesting... a fourth iPod model in the lineup. I actually like that idea because nt everyone may perfer the 6G "true video" over the 5g.

Engadget reported on the Zune battery life. With wi-fi off you should get 12 hours of audio, 3.5 hours of video. I wonder what it's like with wi-fi on?!?

Makes current iPods look pretty good with 14 & 4 h (30 GB) and 20 & 6 h (80 GB). And they're smaller.

This would be the perfect true video ipod!!! :D

Very nice. I could see that actually working unlike some of the other mockups.

When will Apple get these out the door? Who knows .. but I can't see why they'd hold back. I will be very surprised however if they're out before the holidays.

If apple releases new ipods by xmas I wouldn't be to surprised becasue they need to make a true ipod video not one with a tiny screen,
