If that's the case, these "American kids" are seriously misinformed. In the grand scheme of things, the 65,000 H-1B workers are a drop in the bucket, and this overhaul won't change that number.Thank you Trump administration. H1b is the main reason why American kids don't want to get into stem program.
It is a good thing though to block the widespread abuse of this visa by a handful of large Indian consulting shops, who submit mass visa applications each year and thus receive a disproportionate share of the visa in the lottery, keeping many better qualified candidates out.
It would be a good thing to finally raise the minimum compensation requirements to a level of what a qualified IT worker can earn in places like Silicon Valley ($120k updwards), since the current minimum ($60k) is a joke. But from what I understand this overhaul doesn't do that.What's the point of studying hard and becoming a good engineer if the job will be filled by a low paying foreign worker.
