"Apple recommended that shareholders vote against the proposal"

It's a shame; anyway, please, bear in mind that sentence when you write you feel "different" (=better) because you "stay with that company"
I’m not sure I follow, but it’s typical for companies to recommend against proposals from activist shareholders (whether political or otherwise) that would limit the company’s decisionmaking authority.

Keep in mind that this proposal, if adopted, would have required changes to anything that might be considered DEI (such as, for example, recruiting talent from a science and technology fair at a historically black college), even to things most would agree are in Apple’s best interest.

The issue for me is with the dei stuff they don’t hire the best person for the job as they want to hire based on sexuality and race

I'm just curious—shouldn't the President of the United States simply be the best person for the job? There are no DEI requirements for the position. In fact, even a felon can run for president. The only constitutional requirements are that the candidate must be a natural-born U.S. citizen and at least 35 years old.

So is DEI really an issue?

Maybe off topic… but I’m curious how the average American thinks about what is happening. For me it’s like watching a scifi movie on Netflix. It all seems so unreal and I’m having a hard time believing that it is. I think Trump has done a lot of damage in world politics that even if there would be a new president tomorrow, it will take decades to refund trust.

I’m not trying to humiliate Americans only my dislike of Trump and co.
Trump is why I now live in Europe. Even if he was removed from office tomorrow, I would never trust the United States again.

No, imho Americans need to stand up to what is happening right now. Only you can make a change for the better. Together you’re strong. I hope when trumps visits Fort Knox, they’ll close the doors and reopen them in 20 years.
I think it is Musk who is going. Lets hope he meets Oddjob...

I normally don't interject in posts like this, and I will in most likely not respond to any on this topic after this. First off, as already been stated, President Trump has no authority or ability to force Apple or any other non-federal business to intact his Executive Orders, period. So no matter what he puts on social media, or other platforms, he cannot force businesses to dismantle their DEI programs.

Secondly, the problem with many DEI programs is that they are technically unnecessary in the US and are often implemented in a way that discriminates in favor of protected persons. They are not necessary as we already have laws in place that make it illegal to discriminate against anyone. We also have laws that make it illegal to purposefully harass and treat people poorly. These of course target businesses, and not individuals. The current problem is that people now get hired or preferential treatment because they have protected status (which is not granted via DEI policies, but the normal anti-discrimination and anti-harassment laws already in place), not because of their performance or ability to do the job. What President Trump is trying to do for the Federal workforce is do what the late, great Dr. King said, judge people not by their physical attributes, but by the content of their character. We need diversity, the US is a melting-pot with tons of diverse people, cultures, and experiences. Our diversity is what makes America great. What we don't need is hypocritical policies that result in the opposite of what they proclaim to promote.

Why is the government telling private corporations how to handle their internal affairs? Isn't the Republican Party all about reducing and limiting the role of government?
Republicans are obsessed with rules & insisting their ways are followed. Yet they have somehow convinced their supporters that they're for the exact opposite. This is quite possibly the most anti-capitalistic government seen in US history between overreaching corporate management, anti-free trade, and throttling productive immigration.

Except that’s not at all what happens. DEI programs exist to keep qualified people who might otherwise get over looked from getting hired. It’s ironic how people like yourself will complain whenever they see a poc or woman in a job they feel they shouldn’t have but don’t bat an eye when less qualified white men get hired. DEI like Woke is being bastardized into a dog whistle to fill in for more blatantly racist terms

Some hiring policies ,perhaps not in the US but I have certainly experienced them in Canada, are legalized reverse discrimination. Supporters try to justify them by saying that they are making up for past injustices.
