Shandyman the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS was several years ago, much less competition, now that there is steep competition and new, sleeker, faster phones are being released so quickly, they need a new look, bigger screen, and the obvious, better internals.

Also it isn't about internals for the average customer. It's mainly about the idea that this is the new iPhone that looks or feels in some way different and better than the previous version. You could ask so many iPhone customers to tell you something about the internals and they wouldn't know a thing. They simply know it's faster in some way. Apple knows to continue selling these devices at such astounding rates, they need to keep innovation at a premium. The average customer while caring that the phone is faster, knows nothing about the internals, and it's a good thing, because if they knew then they would turn to a faster phone on paper like 1.5Gb ram phones coming out now (yes I know that doesn't mean anything when compared to apple devices).

lol nice to see you try and justify negating the 3G to 3GS, was entertaining, but still you're wrong. the 3G to 3GS is very valid. you can ask any average member of the public as to what's better between the 3G and 3GS, they know the 3GS is better. Yes the public may not know the exact details of the internals, but they KNOW it's faster and better as it's a new device, that's all they need. iPhone launches are huge, so joe public will know, even if it doesn't look any different, that it's faster and better than the predecessor and they will know by the new features advertised. That's all that's needed, not a new chassis. To say otherwise is just to further the absurd shallow thinking you seem to have and you're just dumbing down the average user to suit your flailing response.

- iPhone 4S
- Same form factor as iPhone 4
- CDMA and GSM in one phone
- HSPA+ (at least 14.4mbps)
- 1GB RAM
- A5 Processor
- SGX 543MP2 (same as iPad)
- Assistant Voice Recognition

Solid. Is the most likely scenario it seems, but I'm still holding out hope on a iPhone 5.

i'm totally with you, some people are just odd with their logic!

N94 is the code for the newer iPhone, the CDMA is N92....

Denial much?

been done before with the 3G to 3GS... you've got a very short memory obviously :p

you're partly wrong there, it's not that they don't wan't a redesign, just that a new look is not as important as improved internals. I'm happy with the current design, but much improved internals, it they release a new design and it's better, then great, but it's not an important issue. Only shallow people are bothered by looks.....

I wouldn't mind the same design either. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a new look. But for Apple's sake, wouldn't a complete redesign be best for business after the antennagate issue? It was publicly stated the design was flawed. Wouldn't you, as a business, want to scrap that 'flawed' design so people wouldn't think they'd have the same problem with the new phone? I don't believe apple would be that stupid. However that being said, regardless of how it looks, it's going to be the top selling smartphone again. So it could go either way.

Slept over this and it struck me all of a sudden -

iPhone 4S will be the low cost world phone. Apple might have liked a 8GB 3GS iPhone for Verizon as a low cost option. Now with Sprint in the picture, it makes perfect sense to have 1 low cost phone for all carriers - prepaid and postpaid - iPhone 4S. It will look like the iPhone 4, and have the same specs as the iP4 except that it would be a world phone.

And the iPhone 5 - complete redesign.

Despite the recent rumors, I still think we are getting a redesign. I think Apple has kept it under wraps this whole time. All the test units for the iPhone 5 I believe had iPhone 4-like shells.
I think the iPhone 5 cased phones never left the apple campus, but it surely was tested on campus.
Just because there hasn't been any leaks surely doesn't mean there is no iPhone 5.
In regards to the iPhone 4s leak in iTunes, Apple knows what their doing. Don't think this was an accident.

Same as the iPod touch cases with a camera hole that were released in 2009 - the resulting iPod touches didn't have cameras.
That's not exactly the same thing. The camera was pulled at the last minute. The case leaks were based on correct info from Apple (at the time).

Isn't the N90A that just leaked out of the Brazil factory the cheap world phone?

there was no evidence of that, that's what people were claiming on here when it didn't happen cos they couldn't admit that the case makers were infailable or just given duff info from a dodgy source......

No, those cases were real. There were also prototype iPod Touches with cameras leaked.

https://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/12/leaked-ipod-touch-with-camera-photos-were-real/

The internals matched up. There's an empty space where the camera was. Apple pulled the camera.

Top image = iPod Touch with camera (prototype)
Middle image = 3rd gen iPod touch that Apple eventually released without a camera

The internals are identical and distinct from the bottom image which was the shipping iPod touch at the time of leak.

False. The have done it, and would happily do it again if they felt they had added enough to keep it relevant in the market. Apple doesn't care what people want, they care about what people would buy. If there was enough changed, they could sell a 4S to a lot of people.

i dunno, it was different back in 08/09. The iPhone was basically THE phone to have (and still is by some extent of course). Its different now though, Android has really made inroads. Without a redesign Apple aren't really making a statement.

Think to yourselves people, the iPhone 4 design is better than any of the teardrop mockups we've seen.

That's completely false. The fact that these mockups have no glass backing makes them 1,000 times better than the current fragile, museum piece that Apple is currently passing off as a phone.

You know what I love about all this? It's the most excited and interested people have been in Apple related rumors in a long time. Last year when the iPhone 4 was leaked months early by Gizmodo, it really sucked because everyone knew what was coming. But now, people are really passionate about iPhone 4S and if there's going to be an iPhone 5. I love it! I haven't been this anxious for a keynote to happen in a while now.

Even if it's a letdown, at least it's been fun leading up to it.

The problem is that there's no "split the baby" outcome (one that everyone can live with) on this one -- it's either going to be a garbage spec bump 4S or a larger screen, new iPhone 5.

It wasn't different, there were still plenty of other options back then.

EDIT: For the record, I would love a redesigned iPhone 5 with a bigger screen and I can see that it would be good for Apple to release one, but Apple is arrogant and do things how they see fit, and they could probably sell a 4S successfully for a year.

Not gonna lie, but the only people who will buy a phone that measures more than 4" are the people who have never owned one.

I OWN the Galaxy S2. I can tell you right now that I will never buy a phone bigger than 4" again. You CAN'T hold it properly. Again I will say this - if the iPhone 4S appears with no redesign, I wouldn't be any less than happy at the thought the screen size has been kept constant.

Feel free to downvote - you'll realize how wrong you are when you buy your Nexus Prime and you can't even slide down the Notifications Bar from the top with your thumb because you can't reach it.

I bet you didn't own it. Initially I thought it was OK, but then I realized it's far too big and has a lot of inconveniences, the biggest one being the inability to easily slide down the notifications bar from the top with one hand.

As a fellow GS2 owner I concur completely. The large screen looks great but I find it difficult to reach on screen buttons near the top of the screen like I could with the iPhone 4. Hoping that in the unlikely event we see a redesign that the screen is no larger than 4 inches.

you'll have more problems with 16:9 screens because it's a much wider screen than a 3:2 screen like an iphone.

Actually, just like last year, everyone already knows what's coming... even if they're too cross and butthurt to believe it.

Is there any evidence/reference of new Apple products not leaked/rumored and successfully updated making the blogging 'experts' wrong?
