I have a question. If YOU have the money to pay your own car and YOU will be paying for the gas and the insurance (that is if my parents don't offer to), do you think your parent (dad) can tell you which car u can and can't buy?

YES OR NO? AND WHY?!

With that being said, they came to decision to buy me a car under 4000$.

That's why and your not an adult, I did not have much choice in my first car. I suggested a few cars to them, they turned me down. Mainly because an 85-88 Camroe Iroc-Z or Monte Carlo SS, is not the best car for an 16 year old. But then showed me car there were willing to buy for me, and I picked from there. IE: I went with an Acura. Good thing to, because I was not responsible, I would have rapped one of those car around a tree or killed someone. Thankfully, I done none of those in the Acura. I never wrecked, never got ticketed... Hell I got pulled over at 125+ MPH and to this day, IDK how I was not arrested or ticketed... But in turn, did allot of damage to that car. But I grown up now and now feel responsible enough to drive a car that is capable of out running the cops.

You can't outrun a radio transmission and/or a ticket in the mail!

Or the damn Helicopter with the heat camera, lol... I tell you, I thank that cop every time I see him. I learned a valuable lesson that night. Scared the **** out of me. But glad I did not get a ticket or thrown in jail, as that would have made life hard, as I am sure it would have been a felony. ADVICE: If you do something stupid and you see a cop, coming out of the woods. Slow down and pool over before he turns the lights on and admit to being stupid. Probably be in a who lot less trouble, ask me how I know...

Very sound advice! Having that same attitude has saved me a few times also! I have even had a police officer thank me for pulling over right away and he then told me to slow down and have a good night. I couldn't thank him enough.

When the cop pulls you over and is sweating, breathing hard, and almost has a wet spot on the front of his trousers from pulling you over -- you will get a ticket. ;)

Darn motorcycle cop pulled out in front of a car just to give a ticket for 5 mph over.

You must live in Massachusetts!

pffft you don't need a license to drive a car. Just take whatever is in your driveway. ;)

Oh to be a sophomore again...

Lol, my parents was not so happy when I took there Corvette when I was 14, all though I bought it back unharmed with a full tank of fuel... I honestly don't know why they where mad?

My parents would have been in more shock if I brought the car back with any gas left in it! :D

hahah exactly! No harm no foul. :D

Also: A corvette? fourteen? NICE!

It's an Automatic, lol. If it was manual, I don't think I would have bought it back home when I was 14. Saddly my Trans Am is an Automatic, I love manuals. But I plain to go to school in Orlando, therefore will be driving in Orlando pretty much every day. Is why I went with an Automatic... But am regretting it, and am considering trading the Trans Am in on an BMW M5, when I save up some more green.

Lol. My mother just told me that she wouldn't mind me buying the BMW. With her permission, should I buy it next year or not ?

THIS IS THE PICTURE OF THE CAR. 1996 BMW 328I.. EXACTLY HOW I WANT IT. RED!! <3

When I was sixteen I took the bus and I walked; that said the car looks good, but I would check the history and stuff first. You also know your insurance premium will probably be more than $2000 a year right? Aged 16, plus the fact that it's 13 year old car...

I don't exactly find it that expensive for my age. I always thought it would be nearly 400$. I calculated 3000$ divided by 12 months and it came to 250$ monthly. It will also be reduced as I will be taking driving license. That should bring the cost rate down to around 200-225$ monthly.

you do release that the 200-225 a month is for liability only.

Full coverage would be a lot higher.

Explain a little further? And are u aware that I'm in ontario.

And at 16 you can afford $220+ a month, + gas and + maintenance while having at least $800 in the bank in case something happens? Impressive.

If you don't have quite a bit of money in the bank and your car breaks, you will not be able to fix it, may lose your job if you can't get there, then won't be able to make your payments on insurance then. ALWAYS have a decent amount of money for when stuff happens, because it WILL.

A 1996 328i? You better look into the owner history and service records.

Here are the problems with e36 BMWs (the model you're thinking).

WaterPump failure
Suspension (bushines, springs, etc.)
Clutch Fan Explodes
Thermostat
Sunroof
Radiator

All of these things will go bad around 100K miles and need to be replaced. If they haven't been replaced, don't buy it.

If it doesn't have full service records, don't buy it.

Liability only means the insurance covers the cost of repairs to the persons car you hit but does not cover the cost of repairs to your car.

Full coverage means that insurance also covers the damages to your own car.
