While I'm not surprised that the average Joe doesn't know about the iPhone X, that article does spark a curious question... What IF the iPhone X has priced itself out of mass adoption? We simply have no way of knowing until we see some numbers. It'll be very interesting to see.
This whole thing could very well blow up in people’s faces, if people feel the 8 isn’t worth upgrading to and the X is too expensive... although with so many people now on yearly upgrade plans it may not matter anymore.

I'm on a 2015 iPhone 6s Plus now. I too was planning to upgrade to an iPhone X, until I discovered all the shortcoming it has. Screen size downgrade from my current iPhone, more limited in landscape mode, no Reachability feature, and forced to run iOS 11 with its shortcomings (no 32-bit app support, 3D Touch to enter app switcher, easy backup and sync with iTunes 12.6).

It is basically an early adopter sneak-peak product at this point, with a high price to match, and I think that getting one is a decision I would regret next year.

The screen size of the X is not a downgrade from a 6S Plus, unless you consider the notch and rounded corners to be a downgrade. The non-notch screen size is the same. Mind you, I'm not sold on the X's form-factor yet either (I'm expecting my 8+ to arrive in <24 hours). Maybe I'd feel differently with a X in my hand.

Apple are saying boo hoo..we don't give a turd about what you think, We think this is the best..Take it or leave it...The phone was boring after generation 2....There is nothing stopping Apple from innovation, why not create a new form of SD CARD?? That is the Steve Jobs we miss.. Tim is dull, Jony has never had an original thought in his life....The minions just say yes sir...

Steve would have thrown the iPhone x in the river.. He would not have sanctioned it..The same with the imacs, the MacBook pro and MacBook laptops, the trashcan mac, all garage...all dog turd design...nothing great about them..underpowered, stupid designs!!!

napkin for the sarcasm ;) I suspect the big-wigs at Apple know what they are doing. The quarterly results will tell ;)

Haha well this is Australia... there's rarely a big line for anything here. We don't have a huge population. Still, this is to be expected. People knew the 8 was going to be a 7S anyway and there's the anticipation of the X.

I'm picking up an 8 today for my wife. Never had an iphone before and the wife hates large phones. So 8 it is. There's basically no alternative when it comes to a compact, easy to use flagship with a top notch camera.
Samsung are really dropping the ball by not having a serious compact alternative.

The iphone 8 and plus was such a waste of a release. The iphone X would have been enough and maybe another iphone X the size of the SE could have been the perfect two devices for you guys.

Then why is no one buying the 8 as well?

The regular S8 is the serious alternative and its in a perfect form factor without horrible bezels. Its nearly the size of the iphone 8 if you fill those hideous bezels with screen like the S8 did and the s8 has less width.

My new Apple 4k TV was one of the first deliveries in the world 8 hours ago. Why would you line up when it turns up at my door before the stores open. I didn't have to get dressed just a towel wrapped around the correct parts.

Anyone shorting Apple’s stock?

Now might be a good time to double down on companies that make replacement batteries for the older phones. Something tells me, people are going to hold on to their phones longer than usual unless the service providers revert to subsidizing the upgrade.

Crowds are huge already at local Apple stores, don't fall for the propaganda.

I thought I'd heard that Angela Ahrendts wasn't a fan of people having to line up on release date, and they were working to get more of the initial sales handled online. I thought this was discussed last year. Hmm.

Anything to make sure apple had the benefit of the doubt?

Pics? Don't come here without proof. We aren't trump supporters.

I feel sorry for Apple. They should have priced the iPhone X at least $100 more then the actual current price.

They would have known The Notch fan would not mind to pay that $100 extra, for a bit.
$1359 or $1459, no biggy at all for our Notch fans.

Notch fan?

Nobody likes the notch - they just have to accept it.

No, this did not cause the stock to drop. The first catalyst was the news that the series 3 had connectivity issues. Dropped to 153.xx, then back to 156.xx when Apple said it was software and could be fixed with an update.

The most recent fall is probably due to a mix of the fed rate hike, Iphone x production being pushed back (which would affect holiday sales quarter financials and cause them to miss guidance), and very little by tepid iPhone 8 demand.

I'm going to be using my 8, months and months before some people get their hands on an X. Seems like people will be hyping the X2 launch just before many people finally receive their X. And how is this going to effect those on the IUP and carrier yearly upgrade plans? Seems like the late launch and long wait for the X are going to screw up many people's future upgrade timelines.

How long before Timmy increases the price of iPhones $50 like he did with the iPads to make up for the decreased sales?

When
Stay with the 6, save your money and you'll get a much better iPhone next year. I've been in the same boat, really wanting to like one of the new iPhones, but nothing has really wowed me. In the end I've decided there are better things to do with the money this year, and next year I will be more impressed.
when a company did NOT make a better product "next year"?

People still line up for iPhones?

Why not just order on the Apple Store app?

Nostalgia? I was commenting about this before. But I kind of miss those days when ppl lined up and cheered when they left the store. Now they stalk the delivery driver lol.
