Here is the thing - iphone wants don't want to accept the iphone peaked already!

It just boggles my mind that people think the iphone eX will outsell the iphone 6. The best selling iphone version. It's IMPOSSIBLE
I think we passed the era of "this is better than that." This year iPhones announcement kind of made a gap between x and the other iphones buyers/users. I think people are being rational about their purchases.

A company as big and rich as Apple can't fart about with minor upgrades in this day and age. The competition has caught up now and are actually two years ahead in their own 'innovations'. By the time the oddly named X launches wonders of Face ID will have paled further. Samsung have had bezelless OLED screens over a year i.e. And induction charging double that. The novelty isn't the concept of these things it's that Apple has adopted them at last and lost th stuff people wanted (headphone jacks) then hiked up the price. The only thing keeping folks from going Android is the fear of leaving the Apple ecosystem. I can't blame them. Jobs' original foresight and legacy of simplicity and inter-usability can still be seen today a decade on. Such was his amazing ability to demand the best. Get it out there now before the rivals and challenge the markets laziness and complacency. No more. The simplicity has gone. As has the ground breaking stuff. And that's what the newer users can't see. Loyalty lasts just so long before common sense and finances take over. Eventually.

I'm going to be using my 8, months and months before some people get their hands on an X. Seems like people will be hyping the X2 launch just before many people finally receive their X. And how is this going to effect those on the IUP and carrier yearly upgrade plans? Seems like the late launch and long wait for the X are going to screw up many people's future upgrade timelines.
Well, I've been using my 6+ for years and years before you got your 8.

I'm holding out for the X. Since it will probably be my phone for three years, I can afford the price. And my life is busy enough that I'll hardly notice if there's a wait. I won't get my Tesla Model 3 until probably March of next year at the earliest and I've been waiting for a Glowforge for 18 months.

Why would anybody wait in line when you can order online and have it delivered to your house on launch day? In addition to that, those on the upgrade program can return their phones with the pre-paid shipping that is provided by Apple. Absolutely no reason to sit in line.

I'm not all that surprised. I have an iPhone 5S and every year since I've had it I didn't think there was anything special enough to upgrade. Now after 4 years, I do want a new phone and see a bunch of features that would be really nice to have, plus my 5S is feeling very sluggish when using Apple Music. But the iPhone 8 is a dated design. The iPhone X looks exciting and I'd love to have one, but it's way too expensive. I'll be sitting things out for another year and if prices don't come down for the new designs with Face ID/no home button, I'll just buy a used iPhone X next year when they release the XI. I think a lot of people will be sitting it out this year.

I don't see any reason to get iPhone 8. Nothing special about it. Literally the same as iPhone 7. Upgrading to iPhone X I can understand.

Most people I’ve spoken to are sitting this out completely.

The 8 isn’t a big enough improvement - the only decent new feature is wireless charging and you have to wait/pay extra for accessories to use it and then the iPhone X is just too expensive.

I appreciate this isn’t everyone, but let’s not assume the queues are short because everyone is waiting for the X. A lot of people were just disappointed full stop.

This is a reflection of the fans and not the offered devices.

If the X did not exist, the vain collection would have made the 8 a sell out and in huge demand for months, its about owning the newest apple device, not what the device is. Such is the ownership of the iPhone .

Cook is depending on this, cause even if he raises prices more....it will sell, sad reflection of the consumer base, and the X is not the best iPhone to launch. In my opinion the 4 was so far head of what was offered on at the time , the x is playing catchup to the S8. Problem the S9 will raise the bar, while cook will want to milk the X for the next 3-4 years

And I was using my 5s for a year before your 6. I'm sure we could both keep going back (personally I could go back as far as the 3Gs), but that wasn't my point. Not since the original iPhone have people had to wait this long from announcement to launch. And it will be a skimpy launch at that from the sound of things. Because of this, I imagine many people's future upgrade timelines are going to be screwed up and will no longer be able to upgrade right at the launch of future iPhones. If someone doesn't get their phone until March next year, their new yearly upgrade date will be in March instead of September.

Talking to about 20-30 developers who are mostly iOS , most are thinking the same way, they are like us grumpy lot on mac rumours, many very unhappy about the notch and pricing is putting them off. Yes quite a few said they will pre-order, though unless it's beyond thier expectations, it will be returned.

I will also pre-order so I can try it myself. Though I just picked up a 256 7 I'm happy to use for a few years

I agree with Greenle... Tim Cook and his current flock of yes men, are slowly suffocating Apple...Apple has lost the X factor that made it what it was back in the day..When Apple had maverick ideas, the bold colours, brave new concepts...

Nothing about Apple indicates any concept of innovation, Apple is simple imitate, blindly rehash what has gone before...Apple has not made any new advances in the last decade..Nothing like the introduction of firewire...

Apple is confused..lightning/thunderbolt/USB..what the **** is up with that...what is what??? We sheeple just flock and spend....wake up idiots..you are being fleeced....never mind...go back to being morons!!!

The Apple eco system is faulty, they, Apple, simply do not have the skills to innovate, the whole Apple system is about to implode...

Nonsense. The problem is they released the first SE in March of 2016, and then updated the storage options in March 2017. Now they release the iPhone 8 in September, and the X in November. Of course the lines for phones aren't going to be all that long this year, they are being split across 3 separate launches. If all new models were introduced at the same time, say in September, then there would be huge lines since everyone would feel they are getting the latest version of their desired phone model, all at the same time, exciting for everyone.

If Apple wanted long lines, they would only have 3 launches every year. iPhones+Watches, iPads+Apple TVs, and MacBooks+iMacs. Right now everything is being spread around all over the place. I guess the good news for Apple it will keep their stores busy all year round, and I think that's precisely what they want, people coming back to the store either for new products, for their free workshops, or for genius bar appointments.

my daughter (11) wants an 8.. (she currently uses a 7+)..

she likes the gold color & glass back & new camera features (the portrait modes and whatnot).
mostly the color/glass

she'd rather the 8 than the X with the main reason being the color.

(just giving an example of a real world* reason to get iPhone8)

*obviously it's a 1st world reason.. but valid none the less

------
that said, once she uses the animojis and subsequent apps which do similar, pretty sure she'll then want a X instead.

1) iPhone X
2) People buy these online these days
3) People lining up for the 16th and 17th iteration of anything is nothing short of remarkable.

Ummm 2-3 . Remember this, come November when the X launches and when you post how it's a huge success and why the massive lines are normal ;)

I agree it's remarkable, it's 90% scampers :) and it will continue in my opinion. Nothing to scalp on the 8, hence quite

I really think the whole two launch dates thing is going to hurt the new iPhone sales badly, as is the three premium models strategy. You no longer get the best phone no matter which one you buy, the X overshadows them. I guess we'll know at the end of the next quarter.

On the other hand I think the SE and 6S are getting to be very competitive with the mid-range Androids. Apple's customer service kills anything from the Chinese brands too.

Apples plan is working perfectly. Sell the iPhone 8 with minor upgrades so all the people will want the way higher priced iPhone 10 even more.

I was seriously considering getting an 8 Plus instead of waiting for the X.

Then I went to Costco and compared OLED and LED TVs, and realized I would be crazy to not wait for the X. The OLED contrast and HDR makes an insane difference.
