Please elaborate.

was running 7.1 b3 and had an issue that required a restore. changed the date settings on my phone and macbook to 1/15 and made a backup. restored to 7.1b3 and the phone would not activate. said activation server temporarily down, try again later or connect to itunes. connect to itunes, says my software is out of date and to upgrade. that was yesterday. went ahead and reloaded 7.04.

this morning tried the same process going from 7.04 to 7.1b3, but when activation failed i tried to jailbreak. jailbreak fails as well. now back on 7.04

Interesting!

I'm surprised that you weren't able to...

Interesting!

I'm surprised that you weren't able to...

i did notice both times that 7.04 was reinstalled, the date and time was correct on the phone after restore. It may be getting the date from the activation server , not from the phone or computer setting. if so, it knows it is expired before the activation.

I have an iPod touch I kept 7.1b3 jailbroken on. Followed all the advice within this thread.

I don't use the iPod much and just this morning checked out on WIFI the goings on (see if there are any Cydia updates and whatnot) and it too crashed requiring extensive googling before finally relenting and restoring.

Perhaps this is indicative to the touch though and iPhones/iPads are exempt.

Yeah, so it would appear Apple is no longer activating anything other than the latest beta which contradicts what some users have previously experienced.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned they had recently, successfully restored to b1!!

Something is draining my battery and I'm keen to do a restore but the thought of losing a jailbroken b3 is preventing me from proceeding!!

So to clarify, you restored post 10/2/2014 without any issues?

When you say you followed the advice on the thread are you referring to setting back the date on your pc/Mac?

Yes, following the strategy on page four to a tee.

I had already restored my iPad/iPhone back to 7.0.4 three weeks ago as I didn't want the risk, so unknown if the results would have been the same.

Okay, just restored to b3 on my 5c using the tut posted on page 17. I'm able to jailbreak but get an invalid certificate message when I try update Cydia. This probably on account of the date being set back. If I set the date to the right one the phone reboots and I get the unable to activate message. I can't install ifile without updating missing dependencies in Cydia and I can't update Cydia without setting the correct date.

That was me, and it is still possible per my previous instructions. This page shows you all firmware a still being signed. B1 is still one of them.

Oh okay, nice workaround but Cydia won't update without the correct date and time making it impossible to install ifile to edit the systemsversion.plist. Anyway around this that you aware of?

I just did this with my iPad mini 2. I tried installing ifile in cydia, but was receiving a certificate error. I think it still installed although I received the error, but before I had a chance to check, I changed my date to Feb. 9th (the closest date before expiry) and Cydia loaded everything up as normal. iFile was already installed after I got into Cydia, so that's why I'm under the impression that it still installed even though I got the initial error.

edit: just tried this same thing on iPhone 5 and can't get passed the activation. Fails every time. Anyone got this to work recently on an iPhone 5?

Well I got as far as restoring to Beta 3, but when I try to restore from the backup (the backup which has the automatic time turned off, etc) or any backup at all for that matter, it says "A session could not be started with the iPhone."

Any ideas? Using a 5S btw.

Ruh Roh so 7.1 beta re-restorers are SOL then?

Noted

League of extraordinary beta 2 gentlemen, extraordinary though we are-- be careful.

I wonder if you could put the ifile deb into the cydia auto install folder
But I see no way to get the deb into the folder without ssh or afc2add

In previous jailbreaks I could have sworn ifunbox worked out of the box post jailbreak, perhaps afc2add was included in the jailbreak itself in the past?

Don't screw up your jailbreaks fellas :)

iP5 7.1 beta3

Any chance we are allowed to join your league?

Beta 3 is not extraordinary it's lukewarm but you can come to some select host events :p

Beta 3 would be better suited for the little lebowski urban achievers.

I say this because match browsing with an artist with lots of songs was molasses slow and rendered useless (I waited minutes for it to load, reproducible on a start as new restore on my rmini and i5) and same with music UI tweak apps since beta 3 changes the UI to be incompatible. Colorflow is king. And beta 3 was less stable in my experience.

Different strokes though.

No, I understand. . .

:(

I'd have gone back to b2 but was lazy and the time slipped by. . .
Running b3 now...

Yet, come on!
Much better than b4!
;)

PS: Not the first time the door has been partially closed on an invite inside.

yea, the afc service was removed from the jailbreak because it was insecure

the afc service requires your device to be "working", basically on the home screen. the ssh service is more likely to start up and work than the afc service. to add, you need a password to access the system files with openssh installed as opposed to afc2add

ssh is also more useful because you can run command lines with it

you can read more about it here (comments by saurik): http://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/1w43k7/reminder_install_afc2add_now/

Well technically Beta 5 is the best release so far.

When evasion7 came out, I was one of the few people to absolutely hate the idea that they wasted a number of exploits on a beta release instead of waiting for a solid final release. But then some members argued "pff, Apple won't plug it in time."

What a stupid decision to waste months of research on a beta release. 7.0.4 is abysmal and I'm absolutely not looking forward to going back just to jailbreak.

7.0.4:
