Or are you upset not because you want to get it, but because it means you no longer have the latest model? Is it really so important that you have the latest thing? If so, that sounds like some kind of compulsion.

You are exactly correct! All these "now my iPad is ruined because it isn't the latest model" posts are annoying and hilarious at the same time.

With the iPhone getting bigger and the iPad selling so well and at the perfect size imo my question is why an iPad mini at all?

Oh yeah cause it will sell and make $$$$

If they release a new iPad the have to change the name or they will get a lot people pissed and they will get a lot of BBB complaints starting with mine.. :D

Please make sure you post your complaint that you file here on these message boards. It will make for some fine reading!

Why is it unfair? If there is a defect then bring it to the Apple store for repair/replacement.

Presumably those people that bought 2 months ago did so because they WANTED an iPad. They GOT an iPad. And my guess is that they are HAPPY with that iPad.

Apple, or any company, doesn't owe them stopping or delaying releases. Manufacturers don't need to protect resale values.

They shouldn't have been charging premium price for a product they planned to make old news within 6 months. People need to get what we are saying here, in that the iPad if it refreshed so soon was not value for money. Period.

Nothing to do with wanting the "latest and greatest", I own a 4S I am 4 months into contract with and a 2009 iMac. I simply don't like paying premium price for a new product to see it replaced within six years on the market. It simply is not value for money.

If they release an updated full-size iPad, it will be a completely redesigned form factor. No tapered edges, it will be more like the new iPhone 5 and iPod touch.

Why would Apple explicitly leave money on the table and ignore the 7" market if there is money to be made?

Even while the iPhone and iPad are huge hits and sellers they have hardly hit saturation point. There are still hundreds of millions of people on the sidelines, either because the iPad is too expensive or too big for their needs. Also at a sub $300 price point it's a plausible holiday gift, whereas the 10" might be too spendy for many, and the iPhone/iPod touch are not exactly tablet sized.

Nope. It's going to be a minor tweek, not an entirely new model. Lightning connector and updated LTE radio. That's it. Next major update will be March/April.

Funny reading all the 'why would they release a mini' comments here. I know at least a few friends that would buy a iPad min asap. Simple as that. Some folks want a smaller, lighter version (and slightly cheaper $$$ too). I'm happy with my 3rd Gen iPad (even with the older connector). Works for me.

"perfect size imo" pretty much answers your question.

And that's exactly why I said imo cause to me anything smaller is ridiculous. And I lol at people who think the iPad is too big to take around

Do u not read my entire post? I said cause it will make money

Really hope it's updated! The current iPad is not ideal due to A5, heat and weight. Bring it on!!

There are no rules to say it can only be updated once per year. If it bothers you so much not having the "latest and greatest" - sell it! ASAP. If Apple have all the tools to make a better iPad now they should not wait. It will sell regardless!

Yep, plus it's also smart marketing. Why keep better technology under wraps, and give any possible advantage you have, to the competition? Also, it's not like anything that came before, will instantly become obsolete.

'Saving it for later' might be a virtue elsewhere, but not in the fast-paced world of consumer electronics.

I bought a high end iPad this year, with applecare, so I am NOT buying this one. Even if it has a little better battery life and the lightning cable.

I'll just fight through having to keep 2 sets of cables for a few years.

"perfect size imo" pretty much answers your question.

I thought the iPad was the the perfect size, I thought the 4S was the perfect size, I thought the iPhone 5 was the perfect size. Now the iPad mini will be the perfect size. The perfect size is whatever sells. Isnt that perfect?

The A6 is Triple Core Graphics.... the A5X is Quad Core Graphics... I really think they would be downgrading if they went to a simple A6, now if they did a A6X....maybe.

Also, I now need to sell an iPad 3....

Thats exact reason I rushed in getting another one of the current mode for my wife. With retina screen you definitely need good processing and the moment I saw A6 getting upgraded(rather downgraded IMO ) I wanted to get one immediately before it goes out of stock.

If this changes the release cycle to holiday seasons from now on, this is the best case scenario for those who bought a new iPad and change iOS devices every 2 years.

Normally if you buy the latest iOS device like an iPhone, you had to wait a full two years before getting a new shiny piece of hardware. For those that bought the new iPad in March 2012, now we only have to wait until October 2013 (19 months instead of 24) to upgrade. Granted once that happens we get back to a full 2 year cycle of waiting. :D

It never made sense to me to have the upgrade cycle in March, after the holiday season.

The A6 GPU is clocked higher than the A5X's such that performance is roughly equivalent. Overall it wouldn't make much difference.

traditionally iPad got a higher clocked processor than iPhone. If they clock the A6 chip higher on the iPad than the iPhones, it will easily outperform the quadcore part of A5X since the iPhone A6 matches A5X in GPU.

But it would be nice to have the next gen GPU(Rogue) there.

Can't believe all the whining in this thread. It's a tablet. Just a tablet. You use it for reading news, browsing the web, and watching videos. Maybe playing an occasional game or two. Your iPad 3 will still work fine for those purposes and I am willing to bet it will run iOS 7. I can't believe some of you are actually willing to sell your 7 month old iPad to get the one with a mediocre update just because it's "newer". And, that's all it will be - a "newer" iPad 3. If you think Apple is introducing an iPad 4 at this event, you're crazy.

Remember when Apple introduced a long-awaited iMac G5 with iSight in November of 2005 only to completely replace it with the 2x faster Intel Core Duo version just 2 months later? There wasn't much whining about that and that was a much bigger deal than this.

It amazes me how people got the naming entirely wrog and they keep coming up with this "new new iPad" As a matter of fact, New was never part of the name. I bought the new iPad and on dhe day one and on the box it didn't say "The new iPad" but just "iPad" Apple was simply referring to it as a new product. Why are people assumning the that the third generation iPad was called the new iPad? Why don't people get confused when the new iMacs or Macbooks are released?

Thank you.
You actually get it. And I agree with you 100%.
