I think an iPad 3 with A6 is in the works, with Lightning, makes sense, but not at the same time the iPad mini comes out. No Way.

Each would cannibalize the other.

So the 5 Million people that were going to buy the iPad mini buy the revised iPad instead and the 5 Million people that were going to buy the revised iPad buy the mini? Doesn't Apple still sell 10 million units either way. I don't think Apple is worried about cannibalising from itself.

If the change is limited to little cosmetic changes like lightning + battery. I wish there is an option to upgrade to new one for a small fee...

Btw I don't really get why they are releasing 'another' device with lightning (id this is the only reason)when they are already struggling with producing enough cables. Probably there is more reason than putting in lightning...

Not a hope, you only in luck if you bought one in the last few weeks, then they will allow you to swap.

Their making lighting cables available.....you just have to buy the bundle ;) with an ipad, ipod etc :p

Apple simply doesn't want to keep selling the regular iPad with the oldskool 30-pin next to an iPhone, an iPad "Mini" (which won't be its name) and an iPod touch with Lightning. Accessory makers will just be scratching their heads wondering whether to bother with the old connector or not. With Lightning across the board they can start phasing out their current products and go ahead with the next generation.

I think they will release a revised version of the new Ipad and A6 and any other changes will be out back to March 2013. Apple won't mind what's beig released as in the past once the IPhone is announced the iPad has lesser features.

I doubt anybody would notice if they put a lightning on the new IPad just means everybody who buys a new Ipad will have the new dock. If they keep the old connector and announce an iPad mini with lightning it would be strange a lesser product having a new connection.

Any big changes to the iPad would be silly as many who bought ipad 3 updated from iPad 2. And they would rather wait for ipad 4 or 5.

Coming out iPad Mini is bad enough. Now revise version of the New iPad? Time to leave Apple products.
Leave Apple because they come out with new products? OK. Let me know when you find a hi-tech brand that never updates their product line... so I can avoid them.

son of a ... i dont wanna sound too whiny but i want my iPad 3 replaced if they "fixed" the battery. the amount of time it takes to charge is redic. also additional euro LTE would be nice to have afrer they claimed for month that its part of the deal

very nice - what I was busy typing when you posted was garbage compared to this +1

they could call it The Newer iPad, the 5th gen obviously being The Newest iPad and then they would have to change it up for the 6th gen and call it the PostNewest iPad, but the 7th gen name would potentially be cumbersome unless they get more creative, probably iPad 7 would be best

Thanx dude! lol

Well technically speaking... they could call it the iPad 3. Or even sillier... the New iPad S.

I don't think any of that will happen personally. Their main goal is to get that Lightning port in there. Maybe... hopefully... the new A6 processor too.

That would be a formidable product going into this holiday season and will also give them some time to work on the next model. (Probably fall next year imo.)

I would take bets on the fact that Apple will indeed do a few tweaks to the new iPad. If they're making them with the new lightning port, then why not simply make whatever changes they can make, such as chip and screen changes.

Given the purported iPad mini release, this could actually be the event that changes the release date for the iPad overall from spring to fall. Which would then give Apple another couple of months to work through whatever changes they want to make for the next iPad release, which would happen next fall.

I'm pretty convinced it'll be getting the lightning connector and maybe other extremely minor tweaks. But it'll be supported for just as long as the current iPad and be far from a full revision of the product. There'll be nothing for current owners to envy.

I just sold my iPad because of the 5x chip. Performance was horrendous, especially for games. That retina display deff needs a a6 chip to run it properly

My predictions:

iPad 3 - Updated internals, Updated LTE frequencies, Lightning Connector

No refresh in March. iPad event now scheduled for October of every year

:D

Apple is not screwing anybody over. You bought a new iPad, you received the new Ipad. Works like it always has, no principle needed.

Its annoying enough hearing people complain about refreshes taking too long, now its people complaining about its too soon.

If you'd read my post you'd have seen that I clearly stated all of the above. I am well aware that my iPad is the iPad I bought, etc etc etc (again).

However, £649 does NOT represent value for money when the product is replaced after half a year on the market. It's natural to be pissed, I expect products at a premium price to be the premium product for longer than six months since launch. It's different for people who buy at the end of a product cycle, like I did with my 4S when I bought it in July. I knew I was buying a device being replaced soon, I accept that.

To make a product "old" after six or seven months is ridiculous.

What's going on with Apple

Leave Apple because they come out with new products? OK. Let me know when you find a hi-tech brand that never updates their product line... so I can avoid them.

Anyway, iPod launch is a mess. iPhone 5 is nothing special. Coming out iPad Mini is bad enough. Revise New iPad? I felt being cheated especially just add Lightning connector and LTE? When Apple release the New iPad, they should have thought of customers from the other side of the world. The LTE just works for US and Canada.

Yup, the iPhone 4 stayed on the market longer to help the 4S change the iPhone launch date, and it looks like the next gen iPad will come early to being the date in line sooner.

And all because of the Surface. Cheers Microsoft you bastards.

Many people who don't own an iPad (myself) know that the lightening connector is the "wave of the future" and sales will stall till apple makes this update.

Don't believe the sales hype. The lightning connector offers little at this point that doesn't get handled by the existing connector. If you are waiting for the lightning connector to buy an ipad, then you are making a mistake. It is not a big feature.

I don't like it. Reversible is nice, but it is hard to remove because it is so tight. I really wish that apple had come up with a MBA-like magsafe connector instead. Now that would be a feature worth waiting for. :)

People need to calm down. The iPad you/ I bought only 2 months ago is working perfectly well Apple will not bring out a NEW ipad on Tuesday just a tweaked one lighting port and maybe sort the supposed heat issues.
Why would apple release a new iPad taking the shine away from the mini?! I have bought an iPhone n 5 this year high end 21.5 iMac in feb and new iPad in AUgust NO way will I throw more money to apple just for minor upgrades. Apple are already rich. Some people will go crazy and run themselves down buy going broke just to keep up.

Don't let appe ruin you. They will continue to rake in the money while some are getting things repossessed due to trying to keep up with the joneses.

Wat happened to buying then waiting a few years to upgrade see speed bumps etc. no people upgrade for ego and to show off.

Pretty sure they'll stick with Oct/Nov release for iPad every year from now on. It's such a big Christmas gift product, that it makes sense to have the new models available in time for Christmas each year.

----------

The Newer iPad.

The Newest iPad (well for at least a month or two :D)

I'm not sure what to buy. The iPad 4 or the iPad mini. Will the tweaked iPad be the iPad 4?

Oh and THIS POST is probably enough evidence that the refreshed iPad isn't just getting a Lightning connector.

A6 iPad with Lightning here we come! Bye-Bye March iPad events

Now you know why Apple decided to name it "the new iPad." They had the iPad 3 planned the whole time for fall

True, I'm sorta glad I didn't buy the new iPad back in March if this is true. I guess we'll find out. :)

This was expected & will be a near silent update. It will not include any performance or feature updates. Existing dock connector models will not be fire saled. Apple just wants consistency among all iOS products & doesn't want to wait until the next true update in the spring.
