I know, it's really weird that companies rebrand and change over the years. Weve never seen anything like this from any other company before. just simply mind-blowing.
oop! you’re doing that crazy Internet thing where you’re inferring something I **didn’t** say.

I hate to state the obvious, but I never said that companies don’t rebrand or that this is “unusual” for a company to do.

this particular case hits home because of how often I use Twitter and how random these changes are. dramatic and unexpected.

I wouldn't bet against Elon Musk's super app plans. I wouldn't bet on it either. But he's rich enough, mad enough, and probably some kind of smart enough to turn his 44 billion dollar boondoggle into something. You don't come from meagre emerald mine money and become the world's richest man owning some of the world's coolest companies without some kind of smarts going on. But I certainly wouldn't bet any of my own money on his success.
Maybe his luck has run out.

Why is everyone here so negative about Twitter/X? Someone’s business paid for for $44bil. Whether you like the man, his views, or the way he does his things doesn’t matter here. Even we want the freedom to do whatever we want with our 1000€/$ devices. No one’s life depends on whether Twitter is called X or whatever. If you don’t like it, quit it.
May I offer you a mirror?

I don't call him names or have a ****-fit. I just ignore him

I have twitter.com and x.com blocked at the DNS level for my home network. No one in my home uses/used twitter, before or after Musk and I'd be quite content to never see his name come up again, good or bad.
you felt the need to block twitter across your entire network…ok then…
Gosh Mark, I haven't. I didn't know about all that engaging humanity. Thanks for the tip, I'm definitely going to the "human" platform from now on! I just love human interaction with humans!!!!

🤖
Forget it. You’re not willing to listen. I hate Zuck as much as you but I’ve gotten a hell of a lot more interaction on his platform than the other one.

I’m not a mod but I sense we’re going into a political debate and I think this wasn’t intended on this piece of news.
Because people have to take sides on seemingly everything nowadays and pick fights with random internet strangers.

What Elon does with his company is his business, nobody else’s, unless they have legitimate (financial) interest in the company. Otherwise, it’s all speculation and gawking.

And, if someone uses Twitter to run their business and they’re smart, they’ve already started looking elsewhere to run content or ads. If they haven’t, well, that’s on them.

I never figured we'd ever get to see what happens when you give a total manchild full control of one of the largest social media platforms, yet here we are.

I don't just blame Elon; I also blame the Twitter board for forcing the sale. Elon wanted to back out of the transaction but the board insisted. The blame is shared by both.

Freaking greedy idiots. Twitter had its faults but now it's a total mess. I hope lessons were learned from this. I doubt it.
The board members would have been out of money and a job. They are around to make the best decision for the shareholders. They properly rejected Musk's initial offer because it was not good enough. He sweetened the deal with 3x it's value and a clause that prevents him from backing out due to "due diligence". AKA he discovers issues with the company after the agreement. He tried to back out anyway and the courts followed the agreement as Twitter didn't "hide" anything from him. Note: Musk is known to back out of agreements using "due diligence" to hurt the stock prices or board members. Warren Buffet has fended him off before.

Twitter is just like this site. There is no expectation of free speech and the owners of the site can moderate it however they like. The concept of free speech as it relates to the legal framework is limited to the government’s ability to suppress speech. It has nothing to do with platforms like MacRumors and Twitter moderating the content you post there. If either one deactivates your account your rights have not been violated and you have not been censored. The owner of the platform simply exercised his or her right to moderate however they deem appropriate and conforms to the user agreement you signed when you joined these and other sites.
Yes agreed. However even if the site allowed certain beyond reasonable things things to be posted depending on what is said it could be against the law.

A lot of iPhone users still use Twitter, so they're gonna keep their ads up to try to get them to buy more Apple products to grow their ecosystem, especially since it's time for Back to School shopping which is prime Macbook sale time.
Yeah a lot of large corporations jumped back in when it intially offered 50% off and based on the last report it's now essentially 75% off. Note for those companies still building their brands their ad agencies are telling them to stay away.

This is going to be one hell of a tax write off for the musky one when X goes the way of Lycos, eWorld, and TalkCity.
I miss the old days of building sites with Geocities and talking to people on ICQ and PowWow. I also used Lycos. God, I'm old.

Ok, he was a co founder. But he is the main co founder. There is no Tesla without Musk.
He wasnt a cofounder, he was their major venture capital infusion. Musk in no way founded Tesla

he literally bought his way in, and then a lawsuit from one of the og founders he ousted ended in the settlement that allowed 5 folks to call themselves founders, including musk
