If these AI companies think they can scrape content with impunity they’re in for a rude awakening.
It also doesn't invalidate the point about people wanting to censor points of view they don't agree with.
How can a functioning adult not grasp that "free speech" refers to the government's ability to suppress opinions (or not)? "Free speech" has nothing to do with a non-governmental service.
And "engagement is up"? Sure, that's what Elon says. Fun fact: Elon lies *all the time*. The site is private now so they aren't required to disclose metrics. They can cherry-pick or invent whatever numbers they want to impress their real customers, the big advertisers.
And yeah, let's see how many of *them* come back to a site where every second tweet is a rant from a conspiracy nut job.

I'm paying attention: I just don't care what Kanye thinks and didn't listen to what he said before he went bonkers. I have been on Twitter for years and have literally never seen a Nazi or white supremacist post. If I ever stumbled on a post, I'd ignore it or block the user. I don't care if people with right wing accounts are on the platform - again, I'd ignore any nut I saw.
The intolerance with opposing viewpoints is just staggering.
I think changing the brand/product name right now was a mistake, and the "drama" just happens to unsurprisingly be what came with it.
Actually free speech means whatever companies like X or Threads allow on their platform and is not the same thing as what is covered by the First Amendment.
No, it's not deflection.. I've been thru this already here in these forums and have had moderators remove posts (not just mine) for going "off topic". But as for who I follow, these posts come up on the "For You" tab from people I don't even follow. Nazis, Fascists, an endless swiping up list of people getting beat up or breaking things or hurting people.. Oh, and don't forget the Blue Chew ads.
Actually there is no such thing as “free speech.” However one is still not allowed to post a certain subset of free speech even on “free speech” platforms.
Which is fine anecdotally. But not so much in the bigger picture.
Twitter is just like this site. There is no expectation of free speech and the owners of the site can moderate it however they like. The concept of free speech as it relates to the legal framework is limited to the government’s ability to suppress speech. It has nothing to do with platforms like MacRumors and Twitter moderating the content you post there. If either one deactivates your account your rights have not been violated and you have not been censored. The owner of the platform simply exercised his or her right to moderate however they deem appropriate and conforms to the user agreement you signed when you joined these and other sites.
