I never figured we'd ever get to see what happens when you give a total manchild full control of one of the largest social media platforms, yet here we are.

I don't just blame Elon; I also blame the Twitter board for forcing the sale. Elon wanted to back out of the transaction but the board insisted. The blame is shared by both.

Freaking greedy idiots. Twitter had its faults but now it's a total mess. I hope lessons were learned from this. I doubt it.
I have a hard time blaming them. If some ******* showed up and wanted your house and said they'd pay you more than double what your house was worth on Zillow, you'd have a hard time saying no.

Yes, it absolutely is. You're complaining about people saying things you don't like and the need for censorship because of it.

And now you demonstrate that you don’t grasp what the word censorship means.

I’m pretty sure we’ve all heard the boilerplate rhetoric you’re posting right now. It doesn’t advance the conversation.

He said he could cure world hunger for what, $6 billion? Instead he spent 44 billion to steal more artwork, photography, and text to train AI.

I guess that N64 truck of his (which I kinda dig!) is coming out now, so that's something.

But I can't shake the feeling that since the announcement of X, the banking/social networking/everything app) he has Kendall Roy vibes.

If these AI companies think they can scrape content with impunity they’re in for a rude awakening.

It also doesn't invalidate the point about people wanting to censor points of view they don't agree with.

Engagement is up, bots are down & culled faster than before, people aren't banned for having opposing opinions about things like the pandemic, Community Notes (formally Birdwatch) is actually useful now, longer video support, larger tweets (for Blue), and removal of insecure SMS 2FA - which is very unsecure.

How can a functioning adult not grasp that "free speech" refers to the government's ability to suppress opinions (or not)? "Free speech" has nothing to do with a non-governmental service.

And "engagement is up"? Sure, that's what Elon says. Fun fact: Elon lies *all the time*. The site is private now so they aren't required to disclose metrics. They can cherry-pick or invent whatever numbers they want to impress their real customers, the big advertisers.

And yeah, let's see how many of *them* come back to a site where every second tweet is a rant from a conspiracy nut job.

Elon's tenure at Twitter is going to be studies for decades in business schools, but not for the reasons you hope.

FINALLY someone who grasps what free speech actually is.

Which is why I asked him to back up his claim.

But! But! All you have to do is ignore the “For You” page! You know, the MAIN functionality of the app.

Elon's tenure at Twitter is going to be studies for decades in business schools, but not for the reasons you hope.

No kidding.

Sure, sure. You support Blackstick's comment about not successfully getting peoples speech removed, but that's not censorship...? Lol.

Anyway, life goes on... Enjoy your day folks. It's a beautiful here today and I've spent enough of it here with people I can't identify with. ☮️

I hope so. Waiting for the hammer to drop somewhere, but I feel like Pandora's box has been opened. I feel like Elon's intention is definitely just to use twitter as the coal to fuel an AI.
It’s happening. Slowly at first but it’s happening.

Ultimately the WGA/SAG AFTRA strike is also about this.

Please stop thinking you can win this discussion by posting more straw men and doubling down on a position that has already been shown to be completely false.

Than I would argue you are not paying attention:

There are more that just add fuel to this dumpster fire

I'm paying attention: I just don't care what Kanye thinks and didn't listen to what he said before he went bonkers. I have been on Twitter for years and have literally never seen a Nazi or white supremacist post. If I ever stumbled on a post, I'd ignore it or block the user. I don't care if people with right wing accounts are on the platform - again, I'd ignore any nut I saw.

The intolerance with opposing viewpoints is just staggering.

Actually free speech means whatever companies like X or Threads allow on their platform and is not the same thing as what is covered by the First Amendment.

I literally said that I’m not saying it isn’t there. I’m asking where you see it. Like who are you following that posts nazi stuff? The deflection is odd and makes me question your motive a bit.
No, it's not deflection.. I've been thru this already here in these forums and have had moderators remove posts (not just mine) for going "off topic". But as for who I follow, these posts come up on the "For You" tab from people I don't even follow. Nazis, Fascists, an endless swiping up list of people getting beat up or breaking things or hurting people.. Oh, and don't forget the Blue Chew ads.

Which is fine anecdotally. But not so much in the bigger picture.

Actually there is no such thing as “free speech.” However one is still not allowed to post a certain subset of free speech even on “free speech” platforms.

Twitter is just like this site. There is no expectation of free speech and the owners of the site can moderate it however they like. The concept of free speech as it relates to the legal framework is limited to the government’s ability to suppress speech. It has nothing to do with platforms like MacRumors and Twitter moderating the content you post there. If either one deactivates your account your rights have not been violated and you have not been censored. The owner of the platform simply exercised his or her right to moderate however they deem appropriate and conforms to the user agreement you signed when you joined these and other sites.
