I'm paying attention: I just don't care what Kanye thinks and didn't listen to what he said before he went bonkers. I have been on Twitter for years and have literally never seen a Nazi or white supremacist post. If I ever stumbled on a post, I'd ignore it or block the user. I don't care if people with right wing accounts are on the platform - again, I'd ignore any nut I saw.

The intolerance with opposing viewpoints is just staggering.

Must have one hell of a follow list/algorithm to not see that

Actually there is no such thing as “free speech.” However one is still not allowed to post a certain subset of free speech even on “free speech” platforms.
Technically correct. You can post anything that doesn't violate a law or the platforms rules. My comment was really directed at the arguing over what free speech is and how the First Amendment is not relevant here.

Which is fine anecdotally. But not so much in the bigger picture.
I haven't seen anything definitive about how big of an issue it is. Just some anecdotal posts and links to a few articles from places with an agenda.

Goodbye Twitter. Hello Threads
It's funny how emotional people get about this, and about Musk in general. If you don't care about Musk's world views and politics, and you weren't someone that felt strongly that your political opponents are evil and should be silenced, then really your experience using Twitter/X are virtually unchanged. I open the app, i scroll through the tweets of people I like to follow, I chuckle, I leave. I did that before, and I still do that. Literally nothing is different. Maybe if you were some kind of power user using a third party app it's different, or if you were so thin skinned that being offended online felt like you were being personally attacked, then yeah I guess go use Threads. It'll be an echo chamber. But then again, that's probably all you really want.

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has updated its official app on Apple's App Store to conform with the new branding that was announced last weekend by billionaire owner Elon Musk.

Instead of "Let's talk" – Twitter's original tagline – "Blaze your glory!" is the curious subtitle on X's iOS App Store listing, which describes the app as "the trusted digital town square for everyone."

The new logo and name are meant to reflect Musk's longstanding intention to transform the social media network into an "everything app" similar to China's WeChat.

The rebranding process that has taken place over the last week has been piecemeal to say the least, with various aspects of the platform's online experience still containing vestigial references to Twitter.

The app icon was replaced earlier last week, but the app's name change is believed to have taken longer than usual because Apple dithered on whether to allow it. App Store policy doesn't permit an app to have a single character title on its App Store listing, as pointed out by Nick Sheriff.

Apparently X received special treatment from Apple, which is more than Musk got when he ordered the Twitter signage to be replaced at the company's headquarters in San Francisco last week. Five letters were taken down from the office's large vertical sign before work was interrupted by police who were concerned about the lack of safety measures to protect pedestrians walking beneath the operation.

A giant pulsing X has since been erected on the roof of the building, and that has also drawn the ire of city officials after neighbors complained it was intrusive.

The X branding has been criticized by some commentators for being uninspired, as well as for the letter's long association with porn websites. The new name for the social media platform also means that Twitter Blue is now called "X Blue," which could be doubly suggestive of lewd content. The subscription service allows users to upload up to three hours of video, up from the previous two-hour limit.

Twitter/X CEO Linda Yaccarino said the platform will be powered by AI and offer users "unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities... X will connect us all in ways we're just beginning to imagine."

Anyone want to guess whether they will (or will not) be updating the ancient 9.30 desktop Twitter app? It's a real mess, but if they want to change to "X" they might have a reason to fix some of the issues. (maybe?)

No one said he was responsible to stop hunger.

Just that he could have saved many lives instead of wasting it buying and then running Twitter into the ground.
Again, his money. He can do with it what he wants.

BTW I never used Twitter, but just installed X. Loving Elon. He's at Trump level trolling at this point. Beautiful to watch. Just look at this lol. Gold!!

It’s fine to have an opinion about a platform that can and does have wide spread social implications whether you’re currently a member or not.

The fact you find that funny says everything about you. As Trump would say, "sad !".

I think the appeal of people trolling waned many years ago. The fact that some still find it funny when people troll out in the real world is just sort of sad. The kind of trolling these individuals are doing is destructive and has wide spread social implications that will fall out for decades to come. It really isn’t funny. It’s a commentary on how lost this nation has become over the last 40 years or so.

Baby had his toy taken away.

In case anyone misses this: The damn thing was blasting hella light (and strobing, too!) into the apartment building across the street. If they pulled that stunt in just about any state that sign would've probably been shot out by now anyway.

Remember that www.x.com was an online bank created by Elon Musk 24 years ago. Very likely a new payment system is coming, likely blockchain-based.

I can only imagine that happening here by me in Chicago. Sign would have blown to the street before someone could have shot it down.

Funny how X.com resolves to Twitter now, although X.org goes to the X.org Foundation… reminds of how WhiteHouse.com is not a website you should go to. Go to the .org version instead (used to be a porn site).
