No good reason?

Loads of professional cameras still store on SD cards, and transferring the card over to the machine for editing is almost always going to be faster than just about any other connection method.

And HDMI is hardly "legacy". Show me a boardroom or classroom that has a Thunderbolt connection for its projector or wall display, and I'll gladly throw my dongles out the window. I haven't encountered a single one yet.

“things are this way so we should just support this way and not change”

no thanks. I don’t use anything but USB-C, for example, with my digital tools. Why take the SD card out of my camera when I can just plug it in via USB-C? Oh and charge my laptop.

why have all these dongles and ports and stuff? Big waste.

I don't get the Apple plan. Do they want to spend years in the transition from Intel to Silicon? I believe that Apple was much better prepared on the transition from Power to Intel processors. At this pace, it will be two years into the new processor before they are not selling Intel based machines, which means that have to support the Intel machines for quite some time (or piss of everyone who is replacing their Mac with an Intel model still).

Aside from bringing back MagSafe to the MacBook Pro, I want the Apple logo on the back to light up again
meh, that is a waste, another thing to repair a connection light etc. maybe not too much but.
I never see that damn light when I use it obvious
I prefer a engrave thing!

Sounds like almost my dream macbook pro, please God! 14 inch and no touchbar!!!

wait to Oct/Nov is too much for me, but I'll wait!!!!!
I need replace my macbookpro late 2013, the keyboard don't works, I using with an apple wireless keyboard.

What are you talking about? They started the transition only a few months ago. At WWDC they announce higher end laptops and they go on sale in the second half. iMacs go on sale before the end of the year. The whole transition will take about a year.

"second half of the year" means July. Nobody is predicting November.

Having HDMI and SD on a Pro machine, intended for professional usage, certainly has a very good reason.

As someone else has said in this thread, the only reason to ever remove them in the first place was for aesthetic purposes, Jony Ive pursuing his dream of as thin a laptop as possible.

Eh, I just would like to avoid dongle hell. HDMI, USB-A, Displayport, etc. etc.

Pros will move to USB-C over time. Not to mention new professionals buying new equipment would buy USB-C first.

Depressing. I need one ASAP and was hoping for June/July. Should have just bought a cheap Air back in Nov/Dec to tide me over had I known it would take a year to get the 16" model.

It could be supply constraints because of the pandemic.

Too bad we're not really talking about 12" MX MacBooks. Still love my 2017 12" MB. It's like having a roadster in the garage. But it would totally benefit from Apple Silicon.
Exactly. I'd like to see that return. Perhaps once Apple completes the transition of its existing lineup it will reconsider other designs.

July is the "second half of the year." So it could be July. None of the rumors say december. It will most likely be announced at WWDC and on sale shortly thereafter.

I don’t see why people can’t get a magnetic usb-c dongle if they want - there are plenty of them on Amazon.
The problem with the dongles is the cost and quality of them is all over the place. I have researched many of them and they get hot, mess up wifi, quit working ,etc. If apple made the dongles that would allow legacy ports that would be great.

always get the computer you need when you need it. Because you need it. Don’t wait based on guesswork and assumptions about when the new upgrade will be released and then get depressed when it doesn’t come to pass.

Please give me thunderbolt ports only. No magsafe or hdmi. I dont know why Apple wants to bring legacy ports back? what about FireWire 400 and FireWire 800? or perhaps E-SATA too? and ExpressCard slot? I don't want my next MX mac looks like another mac pro cheese grater.... too many holes. All I need is thunderbolt ports and they provide everything I want and look so slim and clean.

HDMI is not a "legacy port". If it has a successor (it doesn't), it sure isn't USB-C. Good luck going to a client's or hotel's meeting room and trying to connect a USB-C cable to a projector.

Just to be clear - the only M1 laptop with a touchbar is the 13? None of these are rumored to have one?

Wow.

But HDMI ports apparently look neither “slim” and ”clean.” And how do you address the well known problem of ”too many holes?” I mean, does Apple not care at all about the poor trypophobes?

I do suspect an MBP with HDMI will be a little thicker. But then… why is this a problem? The Air exists. Let the Pro be more of a workhorse.

if they “flatten” the bottom of the case, as is rumored, don;’t see why it needs to be thicker. The edge may be thicker, but the overall machine can be as thin.
