What alternate timeline are you living in? That didn't happen here.

I got mine the day before it was sold in stores and I ended up getting a free case from apple and that fixed that issue. If I'm not mistaken, later on apple applied a coating on them. I read it on ifixit.com.

The coating as a fix was just a rumor. Current models aren't any different than models shipped last year.

So if theirs gonna be delays of the i5 into 2012......... than only means that the next iphone after that will be delayed as well.

I agree with some of the others, if it was going to be such a hassle and take this long, should have just gone ahead and pushed out the "4S" or whatever they want to call it in the meantime.

I say all of us should just start lining up in front of Apple stores and put up our own sign "iPhone 5 launch line". The news media would pounce on it and then Apple would be forced to go ahead and release the phone, lol.

But seriously, it's looking like at least a late October launch now, which is almost too late. Any later than that and they'll kind of have to push it back to January. Then that would mean a completely different ball game for 2012, with probably no iPhone 6 til 2013.

No, when we former iPhone users purchase an Android phone it's because we want features that the iPhone isn't going to get for the next four years. Look at the "new" features in IOS 5 - Android has had them for years. And look at the mock up design of the iPhone 5, it's a blatant ripoff of one of the Droids.

As an Android owner, I can tell you a few realities of Life.

1) The Android OS Sucks!! The newest OS is full of Bloatware that starts on it's own, Killing battery life, sending personal data to who knows and you can't delete from the phone unless you Root the Phone and void the warranty!!

2) you get better resale value from IPhone. If you buy a Droid on an upgrade price from your carrier and want to sell it a year later, you will get CRAP!! If you purchased an IP4 at Upgrade price, you can sell it now for MORE than what you paid for it under "Upgrade" Prices.

I would love to get an IP4 to tie me over until the IP5 comes out, but I don't want to waste my "Upgrade" or pay over $400 for a Verizon 32GB IP4

If the iPhone 5 does increase the display size (I'm OK with the 960x640, that's still outstanding PPI), and the other "assumed" upgrades are in place (CPU, camera), I'll very likely switch from Android. Since the Wifey© is already running an iP4, we'll have some nice extra perks with the new messaging system, sharing apps, etc. I don't even mind dealing with iTunes anymore, now that I'm manually managing content, though it still has a few things that make me crazy.

My Android experience has overall been fun, I initially had a great time tweaking, tossing up widgets, flashing different ROM. Then the flashing became a weekly thing to try to constantly overcome hardware/firmware issues, and the inconsistency of availability (battery, sketchy GPS, etc) started getting on my nerves. I'll probably keep my current phone, de-SIM'ed to fool around with, do a little development (I'm prototyping a couple of apps on both Android and iOS), maybe for GMote.

It always seems like there's something that misses the mark, the new Bionic uses a pentile sub-pixel config like my Atrix did, won't have a phone with that again. Probably the best hardware on the market is the SGS II, but it's got a share of issues, and I kind of s**listed Samsung products :D

Out of curiosity, is there any talk that the iP4s (if there's a different FF for the iP5 and two phones are released) is going to use any different external materials to mitigate costs? Like maybe swapping the rear glass for plastic?

To anybody saying that this "iphone 4S" is going to sport an A5 processor and an 8 mp camera, what drug are you smoking?

Why would Apple throw upgrades into that phone?

If there are 2 models, the lower end version might be called the 4S, but it's definitely going to be the same physically and internally as the 4. The only thing different will be that it'll be available on multiple carriers.

The iPhone 5, if it exists, will sport the A5 and the 8mp camera.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5313e Safari/7534.48.3)

Quite happy with my iPhone 4, does everything I could possibly ask it to.

Bigger screen - really doesn't interest me
LTE- not available in the uk
More ram, CPU etc - ip4 is plenty fast on ios5 b7...

Meh, it's an apple product, it will sell like mad no doubt but probably not to me, not unless my 14 month old ip4 decides to break.

Smoking? Not a chance. Free-basing? Most definitely.

I really am getting more sad every day that they don't announce an event or something. It's really making me believe that nothing is going down any time soon.

Answer : They won't change the resolution. 4"+ 960x640. Same resolution, bigger screen, less zooming in.

qHD is what is starting to catch on now, that's 960x540 and is what we're seeing on the competition's new models these days. Apple can easily stick to their 960x640 for now.

Next year we should see some 1280x720 models pop up. Then Apple will be lagging if they don't up the resolution, but there's no need to this year.

Next year for 1280x720? More like next month with
HTC Vigor and November with Samsung Prime. Heck, quad core by 1st qtr 2012.

Sigh. I hope it's only one plant. Cmon iPhone 5, we need you :(

Maybe the delay is so they can put in twelve Xeon hex-core CPUs >:) (Mkay... maybe not...)

I'm the first one to say that Nintendo was doing it on purpose for the Wii. There is just no other explanation for Wii shortages 2 years after launch other than Nintendo being darn happy dragging their feet and creating hype. Heck, I know people that bought Wiis because of the shortages.

a lot of it depends on manufacturing capacity. if foxconn has a factory for the wii then building another factory means you will have to pay foxconn a lot of money or agree to buy some minimum amount of product for so many years.

you have to be really sure of demand or you risk losing a lot of money.

Both those are rumors. The HTC Vigor spec sheet says WVGA (wide VGA) which is 800x480. It has a contradictory bullet point that claims 720p resolution, but that might not be for the screen itself, but rather for the HDMI output.

The Nexus Prime is clearly at the state of rumor right now. There's nothing concrete on it aside from "it might be coming with Ice Cream Sandwich" during Q4.

Next year for 720p I'm afraid.

Or since you're getting free marketing and press and selling out all you can make, you just keep demand low, generate hype which generates more demand, barely meet the increase in demand to generate more hype around shortages, rinse, repeat.

Seriously, the Wii shortages were on purpose, no one can claim otherwise. Not freaking 2 years into the device's lifespan.

that resolution on a such a small screen i'll need a magnifying glass to read anything

on the plus side i've read of rumors that HTC will have a camera in a phone that can take RAW photos

if you're selling 100% of what you make hyping your product isn't going to result in more sales unless you increase production which is a financial risk

The larger screen device is the next iPod Touch. Apple has been pushing the iPod Touch as a portable gaming device. Increasing its screen size makes sense as there is more screen space for touch controls. And it's an iPod, so the marketing tagline is it will be the best iPod ever to watch your movies on. Add on a 3G version, plus iCloud, it just clicks.

You just described the iPhone.

If it's the iPod Touch, why would it have a tear-drop design? For gaming, it's very important to have symmetrical designs. Apple would know to listen to people who play on flat surfaces. If what you say is correct, wouldn't it be easier for Apple to make the thing the same depth all the way around even if they had space at the bottom? I think it's an iPhone.

It's not the fact that it has 4" screen, 8 mp camera that makes it amazing. It's combining all of that with ios is what makes it special. I have used android phones before and the experience is not even close as smooth as with the iphone. We are talking like android and ios are equals..they are not. ios is superior to android hence the popularity of the iphone. This is why people keep buying the iphone with a 3.5 screen inch screen over all the 4 inch plus androids out there. It's much deeper than specs, it's the whole experience and ease of use so if the new one has a 4 inch screen, 8mp and ios, i'm in heaven!.

Call me when the iPhone is as open and customizable as Android. Until then, iOS's shackled down restrictions dont hold a candle to Android. You can't even dispute this.

Some of us prefer to make the phone catered to our OWN preferences. iPhone may be fast, lag free and so easy to use a monkey with half a brain could figure out (not surprising that the iphone is selling so much, the general public is very stupid), but when it comes to anyone thats remotely tech savvy, will know the shortcomings of iOS.

What's the point of taking RAW photos with a sensor the size that will fit in a phone? Without a larger sensor, all you will get is more pixelation, not more detail.

You think that being fast, lag-free and easy to use is a BAD thing? Good thing you're not on the design team. The products that will have the most success are the ones with exactly these characteristics. You have to cater to the masses, not the few who are tech savvy.
