I would LOVE to buy the iPhone5 as soon as it is available!!!! *grrr* ;)

But I don't see Apple in the position to present a "revolutionary" device... What can they offer, which is better than the Galaxy SII (which is already 1/2 a year old)?

The A5-chip is "only" 1Ghz (compared to 1,2 Ghz of th SII). I don't see them presenting an 1,5 Ghz-Chip ;( In terms of RAM there will be 1GB, which is nothing new... A Camera with 8MP (and Full HD Video), is also nothing new... Screen-size!? It will be simply catching up to 4" (or 4,3" compared to the SII)...

Ok... It will have a better build-quality... Not all this plastic which you find with the SII...

AND: iOS5 seems to be really cool (compared to the "fragmented" Android)...

But should this be the only "revolutionary" feature!?

I HOPE NOT!!!

And as there will be the NEXUS Phone coming soon, Apple will be clearly 2nd!!! (Not in Sales... But in Specs!!!)
Apple iPad 2 defeats Samsung Galaxy S2 in many benchmarks, so definitely iPhone 5 is gonna be faster than S2, for now. Speaking of Camera, 5MP of iPhone 4 was relatively better than EVO 4g's 8MP because quality depends upon sensor size and quantity(resolution of image) depends on MP. So most of the Android's 8MP has Quantity, not Quality. iPhone 5 camera is gonna be even better. It's just the screen size everyone really cares about now.

Specs don't really matter. You have to see the whole device plus ecosystem and judge it.

but i guess criticising the iOS platform for its shortcomings makes me a troll.

Don't worry about it, I get called a Phandroid and a Apple hater despite the fact that I own an iPhone and plan to upgrade it with... another iPhone.

It's also funny how these people that lambast us as "Phandroids" know the name of one of the biggest Android sites around. :D

"Your wife will love the dual core Tegra chipset."

It's not about only about RAM and pixels.

LOL, so true.

Its weird, because I've never owned an android until 2 weeks ago. For the last 5 years I've been using Nokias. I'm actually considering going back and getting a Nokia e73 mainly for its battery life and tactile keyboard. I hope that doesnt make me a Nokia fanboy?

I did consider an iPhone 4, but I can't stand being forced to use Itunes because i use so many computers on different platforms.

You're definitely right!: quality is way more important than quantity - for that reason I mentioned build-quality and iOS5, but if I compare the Picture-/Video-Quality between IP4 and SGII I really don't see the IP4 as a winner (not really as a loser as well)...

With the benchmarks you may be right!

But I am just not really happy with an IP5 which is just slightly better than the "old" SII... That's not Apple-like... there has to be more (please) ;)

Wait, what does his liking Android have to do with him not belonging here ? I think that's a Mac Pro he owns there... yep, qualified for MacRumors. :p

Maybe you should go hang out on Apple Insider or Cult Of Mac if you want an "Apple fan site". This is a Apple rumors site.
Little criticism is okay but who in the world owns a Macbook and curses it. This guy sounds just like all the Apple-haters. He is definitely a troll and wants replies and he's getting the attention he need. Topic is about iPhone and this guy quickly jumps to 'how his Macbook doesn't work with monitors'. I smell troll.

Or not, the iPhone usually as an underclocked version of the iPad processor, due to thermal and power concerns.

Sounds to me like you're baiting for responses too by calling people haters and trolls so that we launch into a discussion about who has a right or not to be here my friend. Think about that for a second.

His point was clear : Apple is not perfect and people that try to tell us otherwise either have an agenda or can't see the reality for what it is. And he's right. My MBA is not the perfect machine, it's a compromise. For me, it was the best compromise to make (really needed something light, GPU/CPU power be damned). I won't go saying how it's the best for everything though.

Same with my iPhone. It's a good phone, does what I want, albeit with a few minor annoyances. I'm not going to praise it as a Jesus Phone or something and I can discuss it objectively, which sometimes includes a little criticism.

The problem is that sometimes on this site, there's a few people who are too much into Apple that polarise discussions. It's not that a few of us Apple users are Apple haters, it's that these pro-Apple folks are so much so pro-Apple that they tend to turn the discussion into an "If you're not with Us and Apple, you're against Us and Apple". This is not the case at all.

WTF you are doing on Macrumors site !! You are just a troll, and a Phandroid like my brother who have nothing to show but Cluttery widgets and Awfully huge Phone screen. Why don't you go register yourself on some Android site blabbing about upcoming Prime and Droid HD. You have a place but I'm afraid you are in a wrong one, mate.

What are you, 12 years old?

How do you manage your library? scattered about? just wondering.

Glad you asked:

I use 'Vox' to playback my music (handles all sorts of other formats too). I like it a lot more mainly because its easy on the processor and easy on RAM. I do a lot of graphic design and web development, so RAM and speed is crucial.

Then be a good sport and help me solve my macbook pro problem (this was on my 2010 macbook, im now on a 2011 with the same problem)

Apple 'was' king-of-the-hill when it came to Smartphone market back in 2007, but now everyone has catch up to it. Apple doesn't have any innovation left in this regard other than speed bumps and minor design changes. All what Apple can do with Android is get little ahead every time for some months. What Apple really offers is definitely build quality and polished operating system to work on, not to forget the App store. I don't know how Apple is gonna catch up with likes of Droid Incredible HD and Prime sporting huge screens with HD Resolution. Somehow I feel, Apple has something good up on it's sleeves to save themselves from these Manufacturers. Time will tell.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

I would wait for the teardrop

I would too. never liked the iPhone 4 feel

iPhone uses the same CMOS sensors as Android phones. Android phones used to use 5MP sensors too but they switched to 8MP faster. Sure, cheap Android phones use small sensors but not the flagship phones. So Apple is doing catch up here (remember, unlike Sony, Apple does not manufacture its own sensors, so they just can not get better sensors than other phone manufacturers).

As far as iPad 2 vs SGSII performance comparison is concerned, keep in mind that iPhone will not use the same A5 chip as iPad. A5 chip in iPad is faster than SGSII's chip because it has powerful GPU which makes this chip too big and too power hungry for the phones. A5 in iPhone will have less powerful GPU (and less RAM?).

Besides, some versions of SGSII being released in US actually have 1.5 GHz CPUs.

Seeing Apple's history, they always launched products which had better features than the others. Last year they launched iPhone 4 which had superb resolution and PPI because of which it's still selling now. So having that in mind, Apple should be launching another iPhone which is just better than any other Smartphone right now till Droid HD and Prime poses a threat. Even after underclocking A5 processor to 1 GHz, it would still be faster than S2 IMO. Anyways, I really don't care about raw power. iPhone 4 is already fast enough for me, it's the screen size that I want. Really, Android phones looks are like jocks infront of nerdy iPhone.

Delays, shortages, only 4S... See a pattern here? Every rumor is to the contrary. Their marketing department runs circles around some of the people around here. Is all they're doing is trying to load up the maximum amount of orders on release day. This is by far the most I've ever seen people get wound up over a product. Just 2 weeks ago stock was at "unprecedented" levels and now there's shortages? This is all crap you guys. I bet you all get your phones and everything will be totally cool.

Call me when the iPhone is as open and customizable as Android. Until then, iOS's shackled down restrictions dont hold a candle to Android. You can't even dispute this.

Some of us prefer to make the phone catered to our OWN preferences. iPhone may be fast, lag free and so easy to use a monkey with half a brain could figure out (not surprising that the iphone is selling so much, the general public is very stupid), but when it comes to anyone thats remotely tech savvy, will know the shortcomings of iOS.

This post illustrates the worst part of the whole fan boy syndrome, be it Apple or Android or Mac or PC or anything. There are too many people who simply can't seem to make a point without insulting others.

My personal thoughts have always been that if you have to result to personal insults to bolster your arguments, your arguments are probably pretty weak.

Speaking as one of the "remotely tech savvy" (I'm a messaging admin for a large enterprise) I for one got very tired long ago at hacking away at my computers and phones. I would rather spend my time travelling, kayaking on the lake, or out at Oktoberfest with my friends.

Watch out who you "think" you are targeting with your insults.

I actually completely agree with you. Apple has mastered the art of the HYPE! With that said... It's totally worked on me. I'm definitely on the iPhone 5 hype train.

BINGO!!!

....and yet constant ranting and diaper changes, rumors, clandestine sources, "been somewhat credible" in the past reporting.

What has Apple said? Nada. You put the expectations on yourselves. You fan the flames of impatience. Apple is selling every 4 coming off the production lines as I type. Do you really think you matter that much?

When has Apple ever done anything in a manner other than "it'll be ready when it's ready"? (antenna-gate press conference excluded)

The 5 will arrive. When it's ready. Then you will understand.

Can't handle Apple? Go have an Ice Cream Sandwich. :apple:

With almost a 16 month window since the last device announcement, rational thinking would suggest that there is no way that Apple is simply going to announce an iPhone 4S and wait till 2012 for a major refresh of the line. It would simply be a bad business move, and Apple has made very few of those since the 90's. Had they launched the "4S" last spring when they brought Verizon on board, it would have bought them some time for iPhone 5, but they didn't.

Keep in mind that during their last earnings call they mentioned a "Future Product Transition" in September. While that could mean anything, iPhone and iPods are really the only products due for a refresh.

In my mind, launching a 4S only in the coming weeks, and waiting till 2012 for iPhone 5, would be seen as a failure by customers and investors. With Steve stepping down recently, Apple is being watched closely to ensure that the transition to a new CEO keeps the company, it's market dominance and ever rising sales numbers, on track.

Nowhere in my post did I insult the person I quoted, or any macrumors member.

I've said this before in this thread, and unfortunately I'll repeat myself:

Please don't take things OUT of context or skew what people say.

You implied that those wanting an iOS device are part of the "stupid general public". Even if those weren't your exact words, it was the implication of your post. It's obvious your intent is to attack iOS and those that choose to use it.

My question is this, if you don't like iOS, why are you in this forum?
