I'm sorry, but I can't help but call you out for this. I've never heard of iPhone being given away for free on contract in any country in the world. (Best Buy had a one day "sale" where the 3GS was free last Dec. but that was it) In fact, very few countries even offer subsidies on iPhone. You're claiming it happens in many other countries.

I know that making statements without any factual basis is your M.O., but seriously, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Your claim that its given away free on contract in "many other countries" is just another one to add to your long line of saying things that are not true.

Look at any of the links below, all carriers in the UK are giving away iphones for free on contracts.

So plenty of evidence that you can get an 16GB iphone 4 for free and the monthly cost is only around £40 which I believe is cheap compared to the US tariffs. A 3GS is available for free on even cheaper plans.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Design delays... Hopefully they decide against that stupid looking taper.

No, when we former iPhone users purchase an Android phone it's because we want features that the iPhone isn't going to get for the next four years. Look at the "new" features in IOS 5 - Android has had them for years. And look at the mock up design of the iPhone 5, it's a blatant ripoff of one of the Droids.

Every one of my friends that ever touted Android as "open", "it has flash", etc...that would not switch to the iPhone eventually did once it hit Verizon. And they all say the same thing, wow the software on the iPhone is more fluid, and less buggy. With the iPhone I know I am getting a finished product, but with Android it still feels like a work in progress.

I'm not British. Anyhow, no matter what it was, it was a breach of forum rules ;)

Neither am I, English isn't even my native language. A little effort here, dude ;)

BTW, on topic: getting really tired of my iPhone 4 with its tiny screen and the ageing single-core CPU. Apple are milking this thing like hell, and funnily enough, it's working, since this outdated piece of crap still sells very well. Hell, I almost had to physically restrain my mother and my girlfriend who both wanted to buy an iPhone 4 this very month. How dumb can people be, seriously?

So in one country. Not "many other countries" right?

One would think there'd be slightly less demand for iphone 5. Android phones have caught up. no?

It's not, by any means 'free'. You are paying for it as part of the contract.

So you were insulting folk and breaking the forum rules ? ;)

Winging wouldn't be an insult as such. Liken it to a slap on the wrist, as opposed to a punch in the face.

I have that guy on ignore. No need to do so much work for him. It's a well known fact that some carriers subsidize the iPhone for free, if he still ignores it at this point, I'm not about to do the simple Google search for him. Let him spout non-sense all he wants.

Here in Canada, the iPhone 3GS has been offered free for a while and they've reduced the iPhone 4 to 99$ or even 49$ if you can bare a refurbished.

The iPhone is not more or less expensive than Android phones on subsidies, that's just a myth a lot of folk here like to push. It's a waste of time proving them wrong with links, they'll just ignore you.

Same as the "free Android phones". ;)

Having owned the iphone 4 for over 15 months, I can confirm that the antenna problem is real. I used to drop calls a lot but once I put a Speck Pixelskin HD case on it, it all stopped so it's definitely a real issue and not overblown.

june 24 was the att release (the day i got mine) and i believe the 17th (precious friday) was the apple store release. in which case you have owned your iphone for over 14 months. tomorrow evening u can tout 15. cant stand peeps that embellish just to look like they know what they are talking about.

everyone used to drop their calls a lot. the first couple of months were murder. then att more or less slowed their system down and did some tweaking. of course you can death grip your phone. i run my scratched up beauty caseless and i dont have dropped call issues. im sure location has a lot to do with it.

in nashville, we have a very stable system. in high rise cities like new york, la, chicago... the same cannot be said.

Sorry if I didn't get my days exactly right mr. perfect but I preordered mine and had it the day before it was launched in the stores so I definitely know what I am talking about. Speaking of dates, it was released June 24th and not September 24th :) so who's messing up now.

This is the part where you say "I meant many other carriers"

Proven wrong once again. You make this far too easy.

That is a fact!! When the Verizon IP4 came out, there were no shortages, no lines, no problems. I could have just walked into my Verizon store and picked one up day one.

Then the articles started about how nobody wanted the IP4 on Verizon and they sold less than they expected.

i remember articles talking about verizon blowing the i4 out of the water with company wide record breaking sales.

i am in agreement though.... apple holds back on the initial release to keep the hype alive.

lol. oops. and you still havent had yours for more than 15 with your pre order.

has everyone forgotten that even Steve Jobs admitted to AntennaGate?
Remember the press conference and the free bumpers?

anyways hopefully with a new design they have fixed this issue.

Sadly I'd say no. My buddy is jumping ship from Android to iPhone this time around. He better be ready to join me in line in the wee hours of the morning.

i find it extremely unlikely that apple will introduce a new screen-size:

1) the screen would either be no true retina anymore or they would have to introduce weird resolution-enlargement - this wouldd either be a major drawback for advertising or for developers.

2) 3,5" screen on a phone is just about the right size - anybody wanting a bigger screen is on the road to a 7" tablet tucked to his/her head :)

just my two cents

Why the hell does apple care if the developers have to do a little extra work to change the resolution? those devs should be literally walking barefoot across broken glass to make sure their apps get onto the phone. iPhone 5 is going to sell millions regardless of whether Angry Birds gets adjusted right away.

i think the problem is people want to rehash old crap that really isnt an issue anymore. after all, pretty much any phone can be deathgripped. very few peeps rock their i4 without a case. it wasnt until i took my bumper off months later and saw that it had done more damage to my phone than going caseless. that is when i started running my without one.

as far as new design... its a shame that they are moving away from the current one. glass on the front and back and the metal band makes for a really sexy phone. people will still deathgrip this new design and drop the bars just as you can on pretty much any other smartphone. apple haters will always find a flaw and blow it way out of proportion. just so they can "put down" what they are so jealous of.

Answer : They won't change the resolution. 4"+ 960x640. Same resolution, bigger screen, less zooming in.

qHD is what is starting to catch on now, that's 960x540 and is what we're seeing on the competition's new models these days. Apple can easily stick to their 960x640 for now.

Next year we should see some 1280x720 models pop up. Then Apple will be lagging if they don't up the resolution, but there's no need to this year.

You're right, shortages are just a way for Apple to make it seem like demand is tremendous by controlling initial offer thus generating lines at stores and media coverage for the launch.

It's a PR tactic, they always have "shortages".

It's not just Apple. For all of the new electronic gizmos I have been interested in over the last 10 years, it seems there have been shortages with all of them (Xbox 360, Wii, DS, 3DS, Playstation 1-3, iPad 1 & 2, Apple TV2, MacBook Air...the list is very long and spans most major manufacturers.

Are they purposely making fewer units available to inflate hype? Probably to a degree, yes. But I think the main factor is that is that the people of the world (especially here in the US) who want these things have a voracious appetite for the newest best thing, and we all want them immediately. Given this already high demand, the eBayers buy up as many as they can, which increases demand and decreases supply, allowing them to charge outrageous prices, and this all just swirls around reinforcing itself into a giant snowball effect.

Instant Gratification is a major factor in this.

I'm the first one to say that Nintendo was doing it on purpose for the Wii. There is just no other explanation for Wii shortages 2 years after launch other than Nintendo being darn happy dragging their feet and creating hype. Heck, I know people that bought Wiis because of the shortages.

The reason the iphone 4 sold well is because they fixed the issue. The initial batch was fixed by apple sending bumpers and cases. After that, apple applied a coating that fixed the issue.

What alternate timeline are you living in? That didn't happen here.
