My 3GS was stolen in July and I've been waiting for 5th gen. Please don't go into 2012 Apple.

You implied that those wanting an iOS device are part of the "stupid general public". Even if those weren't your exact words, it was the implication of your post. It's obvious your intent is to attack iOS and those that choose to use it.

The 'general public is stupid' is a broad statement which is not specifically in reference to iOS or people who want it. Its a *general* statement. This is getting *really* annoying having to explain semantics to so many members on macrumors. I don't have the time to explain meaning behind words, eventually I'm going to start replying with reading a dictionary (and even then I'll be seen as a prick as well).

My question is this, if you don't like iOS, why are you in this forum?

You seem to think that Macrumors is an iOS forum only. It is not. Click here for a list of other categories of discussions where I take part about other products from Apple.

Children Children Children...

Ok, I'm sick of this. I'm buying Samsung Galaxy SII. Bye

... we are talking about a consumer product, not a liver transplant that will save your life.

Believe it or not, patience is a sign of maturity...

Then let me rephrase, I realize why you are in this forum...I wonder why you are participcating in this discussion.

I realize the semantics of your discussion, but when you throw out a potentially polarizing statement such as that your intentions are clear. You are not here to compliment iOS users. Stop hiding behind the semantics and own up to what you really mean.

Call me when the iPhone is as open and customizable as Android. Until then, iOS's shackled down restrictions dont hold a candle to Android. You can't even dispute this.

Some of us prefer to make the phone catered to our OWN preferences. iPhone may be fast, lag free and so easy to use a monkey with half a brain could figure out (not surprising that the iphone is selling so much, the general public is very stupid), but when it comes to anyone thats remotely tech savvy, will know the shortcomings of iOS.

Who cares if android is open. Ios does everything I need and more so why does it matter?!. Also, because android is open, it's a mess and not as polished or refined as ios. People are not very stupid, your just a hard core geek. There are many other things people do that you have no idea how to do. That doesn't make you stupid. If you like android good for you but given the choice, I bet 99% of people would choose ios. Geeks seem to love android for some reason.

Why do you feel the need to be vindicated on my participation in this thread? Why are YOU here?

I made my point clear; iOS is restricted albeit fast, easy and lag free. The general public is stupid and an easy to use phone suits the demographic well.

I'll make it easier for you: replace 'stupid' with 'technologically inept'.

Android is actually *not* a mess or as you claim, not polished or refined. It works very well. It can lag, but so can iOS. Notice I'm not saying iOS is useless, I'm saying its restricted.

The fact that I'm giving legit criticisms on iOS would only serve you better as a consumer. Do you prefer to be tied down to fewer options?

You know, if iOS was more open, maybe I'd be singing a different tune?

Constructive criticism should be WELCOMED, especially on a forum like this. But I'm noticing a pattern here: criticisms of apple's products are NOT allowed.

I criticize it often, yet your hole is becoming deeper. Perhaps you could use less generalizations with the word "stupid" in them? IDK

Everyday this seems to become further and further away. How long will it be until we start getting credible rumors of there being no iPhone release in 2011?

I could. That would require me to watch/listen less of George Carlin & Bill Hicks.

I don't understand why people are so deeply offended by criticising a *product* that they happen to use.

Why do you feel the need to be vindicated on my participation in this thread? Why are YOU here?

I don't. I'm here becuase I own an iPhone 3, 3Gs, 4, and potentially a 5 in the near future. But I'm sure my presence is a surprise to no one because of this.

You, on the other hand, have still failed to answer the question.

And you fail in your attempt to not be insulting.

And speaking as a techie, Android is in fact a mess. I don't want to guess if my new phone will be upgradeable to the next release and figure out if certain apps can or cannot be used on my device or worry if the dev is ripping my personal data and selling it somewhere.

I can answer that:
First, you did not criticize a product, you rather criticized a "public mass of people" who are too *stupid* to use anything but a product.
In other words, you were generalizing- something that cannot be taken out of context, as your words were concise.

I mean why am I even answering this stupid question?

/topic,

I think the delay is a ploy- aka plant, aka rumor :D, not too long ago they were supposedly building 150k a day.

Don't worry about it, I get called a Phandroid and a Apple hater despite the fact that I own an iPhone and plan to upgrade it with... another iPhone.

It's also funny how these people that lambast us as "Phandroids" know the name of one of the biggest Android sites around. :D

Slightly off-topic, but I just went to the Phanroid website and looked at their forums. Is it just me or do they hate anything that involves Apple?

Android users hate iPhone users because they're the people who wanted the iPhone at first but couldn't get it, so they jumped on the Android bandwagon and make lame claims like "oh my processor is faster than yours","I can customize without jailbreaking ;-) ;-)" or my favorite "everyone has an iPhone blah blah blah". One fact.. quality over quantity my friend.

Anyways... I'm pretty sure Apple knows what they're doing. Just be patient children.

Out of curiosity I was just reading reviews of the Samsung 4G Infuse on AT&T's website. The most common complaints among reviewers? Battery life and fragmentation.

Those two things are incredibly important to me when it comes to my choice of cell phone. And iPhone has consistently had those two bases covered since day one.

My only true gripe about the iPhone 4 is the screen size. I want a larger retina display (as I'm sure most others do too) and it appears we are mere weeks away from getting that.

Once the iPhone 5 potentially boasts a 4" retina display and better backing (both material and shaping) it's going to again lead the way until next year when we hopefully will get a 4G iPhone.

Apple isn't doing this to you. Rumor sites are.

No it's not.

The inability of Apple to release the device has consumers gritting their teeth.
Rumor sites only report what they know from Apple products.

The logic is that if Apple would release their products, rumor sites wouldn't harm users.

It starts with Apple not releasing the phone so don't go around claiming that rumor sites are causing the trouble. The START point is the point that matters.

The inability of Apple to release the device has consumers gritting their teeth.

I'm pretty sure they are able. And I'm pretty sure if you were sitting in control of the release schedule you might make similar decisions. The fact is that we do not know why the iPhone 5 release cycle was delayed beyond our expected June date, but I'm sure Apple weighed the options heavily before making such a grandiose decision.

Stop trying to be a back seat CEO. :p

Agreed the US population isn't getting smarter and Apple isn't helping by releasing phones/devices that 5 year olds can use.

There comes a point when simplicity is just pointless, simple is nice but difficult material push our limits.

Would I prefer doing physics problem with trigonometry, sure I would but I sure would degrading myself if I wasn't doing physic problems involving calculus.

This is exactly what Apple is doing, you think its good because its simple but simplicity can hurt in the long run.

Of course basically EVERY smartphone combined outsells 2 phones running iOS... iOS is on two of MANY carriers and has no free or buy one get one free option...
Neither does android, and its not 70-80% of the market, dont know why you feel that need to inflate it like that.

Apple also chooses to only release a couple of models.

They're already WAAAAY ahead of Apple... How much bigger does their marketshare need to be before they make more money in their app store than Apple?
Developers take a while .

It isn't just price. They are available on EVERY carrier too. Its Price, availability and market saturation. I still stand by what I said... The AVERAGE user goes into the store and says "Oooh its LIKE an iPhone but its (cheap, free, on my carrier).
Carrier limits is apple and you are still wrong about the users. They see phones that have the same capbilities different looks and price and pick what suits them best. Lets not pretend iphone is the best choice for everyone.

Yes a lot of people do but the VAST VAST VAST VAST majority don't. The driving force of Android's marketshare aren't $200+ devices. Its the cheap or freebies.
BS, the high end market sells millions.

I actually have no problem with the device being simple that 'the stupid general public' can use. It's why I prefer OS X over Windows. It's also why I *did* consider the iPhone 4 at one point. It's also why I praise Apple for doing things right when making a phone; make the UI with the greatest emphasis on CLARITY (something Blackberry greatly lacks).

But you are right, the limitations *can* sometimes be a major drawback in the experience, ie; no TRIM support in OS X, no SLI/Crossfire Support or in the case of the iPhone, many things are STOCK and cannot be changed, like the keyboard (size of keys can be adjusted in Android, style, colours, arrows on or off, etc), widgets, CPU speed over/underclocking (i have my android set to be underclocked when in a call, when the screen is off and when the battery is less than 25%).

How does that apply to a mobile phone, or any other consumer-grade product? You're saying that making something more complicated than it has to be somehow benefits the consumer in the long run?

Or are you defining "simple" as "lacking features"? Because that's a totally different topic.

Apple...YOU SUCK!!!!!
Haha...I'm on the original Droid and this thing is terrible!!!

Please don't make me have to upgrade before the new i5 comes out...I really want an i5...but my Droid might not make it until then!
