Two-Tone MacBooks and a Questionable MacBook Video

13 inch, aluminum, optical drive/>2 ports.

I have been waiting for this computer since before the MBA leaks when people were saying no way apple will bring back a successor to the 12inch powerbook. It's all I want. IS THAT SO HARD!!!

I used to think they were ridiculous, but I wouldn't mind having one. I'm all for style. Even Dell makes nice looking laptops and small desktops now. They sell like hotcakes to female non-geeks.

...Someone should case-mod a maxed out Macbook Pro in one of those old iBook shells. Then, just for the hell of it, travel back in time and show people running windows 95 how awesome your Mac is.

Well, it looks like I was right in thinking that the new MacBooks would have large swaths of black. And it makes perfect sense too. Both the MacBook and the iMac would be two-toned, while the more "pro" Macs (MacBook Air, Mac Pro, MacBook Pro) would be aluminum.

Like I said before, they should have filmed the ports. They did not. If they did they would have proved that it is indeed an Air or not.

They probably didn't do so because the Air has very few ports, and it would give it away.

The whole purpose of the iBook and PowerBook was to have two different machines to appeal to two different audiences. If the new MacBook becomes aluminum and there is no huge difference on the machine specs then it's not a different machine.

I'd say the spec difference will stay about as big as it is now (which is plenty).

Apple should try to introduce some low-end portables like the iBook and MacBook have been at even lower costs.

Hopefully that's what the rumored $800 notebook will be.

Then potentially bring back a high-end lightweight portable like the 12" powerbook use to be.

That could be the MacBook itself, moved up due to the $800 notebook.

The laptops are usually available worldwide right away...can't think of any past exceptions to this.

My friend's dad has one, and it's got 2 optical drives and a floppy drive. The shell is fluffy like a sheepdog, and it ships with ReactOS.

I'd show a picture, but he'd get in trouble. But it's real! Really!

Yeah, with all the speculation and rumors flying around, it's hard to put something concrete.

Is this kinda what Apple is doing? Maybe the large number of MacBook and MacBook Pro leaks are intended to distract not only us but the rumor sites and rumor-gatherers to something bigger on that date? Maybe details on the rumored $800 notebook? Components and specs like a custom chipset (custom chipset is unlikely, but…)? A tablet? iLife '09 and iWork '09? Or is Apple's leak control just leaking a lot lately?

Two tone is legit. But I really, really want them to still use aluminum. It's so much nicer, more durable, and prettier than polycarbonate casing... That's why I'm still holding on to my rapidly aging 12" powerbook... I WANT MY ALUMINUM MACBOOK!!!

No Not All Silver For Mbp!

Please Apple offer something other than all silver aluminum for the MBP. I am sick of silver. I've had silver PBs since 2000 and I am sick to death of it.

Please offer an anodized aluminum all black MBP or at least a black bezel around the screen, something different than all silver.

I am hoping for Montevina, Penryn 2.8 Ghz, dual drive , 128 GB SSD and 250GB HDD, better battery life, revised keyboard, best mobile GPU available, higher res display, lighter, with excellent wifi reception like the MBA.

I think they look like goat ass, but have you tried the third-party casings for the MacBook Pro?

people who're saying the macbook is fake, are arguing that the filmed computer is a macbook air with a tweaked name.

Well, I've made my little research before start saying the video was fake. And here are my conclusions:

- notice the "macbook" name is right on the middle. If the word "Air" would've been erased with some sort of program, "macbook" would be slighly on the left side.

- the name "macbook" is written in silver/grey. The "macbook air" name is written in black.

- the screensides are not in silver as they are with Macbook Air. They're clearly white.

- And, so it is with the power button. It is not silver but also in white.

- This brings me to think that the keyboard should be a white macbook style keyboard. Besides, if it would be black as the macbook air keyboard is, we would notice some darker zones in the sheet... A white keyboard will be the little surprise and that's why there's a sheet covering it.

- Silver + white = 2 tone macbook

So yeah, this video isn't fake. It is the real deal. anyway, will see it Tuesday.

I think it's just the lighting. Yeah, at times those parts looked white but towards the end of the video you could clearly see that the whole thing is aluminum.

I'm sorry it is not. I'll not argue with you on this but at 1:06 and 1:46 you can clearly see the contrast between white and silver on the corners. The screen-sides have the same color as the sheet, unlike the rest...

But, looking at the "Two-tone MacBook" that 9to5 is showing...

Anybody else notice that it doesn't have the "Air" keyboard or the larger trackpad that was "confirmed" with the aluminum frames popping up on the interwebs?

I am glad I hang out here at MacRumors, 9to5 and the Soup, have no credibility in my eyes...

I am almost 100% certain it's due to the lighting and the focus of the camera. Please look at the video again, especially at 1:48.

ex: The power button which you say is white magically turned silver at 1:48? No. That was due to the nature of the location of the lighting as well as because the button is not 100% flush with the case.

Can anyone back me up on this?
