ive just spoken to an online assistant as well. there definately is going to be the deal running this year, but he couldn't/wouldn't say what it would be, or when it would start. my guess - tuesday (student loan might just be taking a beating)

I've spoke to three online apple assistants and neither wanted to elaborate on the offer what-so-ever. :(

Its definitely happening guys! One of the online assistants confirmed it :D

BUT does anybody know when its gonna happen? I need to order by Tuesday at the latest, so a usual Tuesday release would be aweeessooome!

I'm still in 2 minds..
Say the offer starts, should I hold off and hope for new macbooks to be released, or just get it as soon as it starts?

You might find that macbook updates are not until after the Back-to-School offer ends. I have a vague recollection that last year it was a few days after the offer ended that updates to the line were made. Those who purchased in the final few days were able to return (albeit with restocking fee) so up to you.

Impossible call to make. Just depends how badly you need the iMac. You could go on waiting and waiting because something new is ALWAYS around the corner. Sometimes you just need to pull the trigger and be happy in your choice.

Great to hear that several of you have gotten hints that the offer may start soon - but how have you talked to online advisors? I can't find a link anywhere on their store.

The way i do it is go to the UK Store, Click on Shop Mac on the right sidebar, and then click on the education box in the centre of the page.
In the top left there is a phone number, and between 9-5ish on weekdays there is a chat button which appears next to it.

Its wierd that its so hard to find tho!

Personally, i click on the refurbished mac link at the store page then near the top next to the questions/advice on the right scroll your mouse along that bar and it happens to pop up.

Strange, yeh, but it works.

Its not online atm though

I add this in case anyone is reading and nobody has previously mentioned it.

If you are a student make sure you order your Mac stuff on your campus network using the "Apple Store for Higher Education" link. (not the regular "Apple Store for Education" link)

Using this link will get you a further discount AND a free three year warranty.

Oddly enough they still offer you a highly discounted Apple Care too, which you do not need.

EDIT: For the sake of easiness here is the link.. Apple Store for Higher Education (It will appear dead unless you are on your campus network)

You can order over the phone if you have a .ac.uk email address and a student ID number and still get the HE discount.
And, the three year free warranty only applies to certain universities as the contract changed for the start of this academic year. "Richard", who I spoke to a few weeks ago, told me that students at the University of Manchester (where I am) still qualify and I also know that students at the University of Cambridge still qualify.

First loan payment for most of us is around the 22nd so I would bet that it is going to be within the next ten days or so.

To be honest, I study languages and I'll be using it to word process, use iTunes, update my iPod and basic internet browsing so I'm not worried about getting the upgrade or not. Plus I LOVE the classic white styling of the macbooks as they are. They go perfectly with my white jbl creature2 speakers :)

I would bet that it'll come in some time soon and end just before the macbook etc update.

Can't wait to get my first mac!!!

I'm in the same situation, I'm about to send my daughter off to uni with a macbook, but not sure whether to wait for the new ones, which makes it likely that she will be the first week or so without, or to jump in with the back to school offer as and when it appears.
Just a shame that she doesn't have it yet while she is at home to get used to it and for me to set it up and help with prolems.
Is this not the higher education link

You can also get the HED discount in an Apple Store if you have proof of your student status i.e. valid NUS Card.

This also goes for us mature students who are studying through the Open University. :)

Not sure how this link is working as I though you had to be on campus to see it ???

Well, I think my first lecture is on the 29th, I'm hoping that I can last until the 14th without a laptop. I would personally prefer an updated/latest laptop instead of a free nano. Gwmac, I think your right in waiting. Remember this laptop in most cases has to last 3 years, and it will be much cooler at uni to have (supposedly) aluminum MacBook rather then a plastic one.

Just wondering, how much more discount can you get by using the Uni's network. I don't think my budget will stretch to an MBP. Thing is, I don't want to even consider anything until apple realease new ones.

I doubt that they'll be giving away a free nano, after just releasing the 4g. I reckon it'll be old classics or something that you get, or maybe a shuffle?

Yes but remember this offer is to clear out stocks of the old laptops, maybe not a free nano but definatly a large discount,

It should be more than a shuffle! Also don't forget that iMac's & macpros are also a feature of this offer it is more than just MacBooks. Fingers crossed that the Touch is an option.

I will wait too, even though I'm moving into uni this time next week. If there's an updated macbook you'll get more for your money too, and I don't really want to buy old hardware. Isn't the HED 15%? And I'm sure you can also get the HED just by showing proof of being a student- NUS card, ac.uk email address, UCAS letter.

What I would like to happen is they start a back to school promo soon, then release the new macbook when that finishes. If that's the case I might buy a macbook on the last day of the promo, get the iPod, and exchange the Macbook if they release a new one a couple of days later (would I have to return the ipod too?). Sigh, I hope it's not just wishful thinking.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if there was a difference between a normal education discount and the one you can only access from the uni network.

How does this link work?
Is this the discount for University students?

I've been waiting since May for this offer. I'm incredibly tempted to buy one today but i think i'm gonna hold out for tomorrow for lucky tuesdays.
In the shop the assistant was clueless as to when it would come out or if it would at all. I leave for uni in a week.

I hope the updates don't change the macbook exterior body too drastically.

There is an education discount and then an even higher rate of discount if you access the store from an institution's IP address.
