I guess it depends which country they're referring to... if it's the US then perhaps Thanksgiving (Nov) is the next holiday season whereas here in the UK it would be Christmas (right?! lol!)

the next holiday in the UK is christmas...
i sure hope they don't upgrade the imac's specs at christmas!
i start university at the end of sept, and need the imac before i start!!!
i even got a new desk waiting for the imac to be placed on! =] ha
lets hope steve jobs will present us with some good information on the 9th! :)

Also, I've just noticed that alot of the prices are missing, and when you click on say 'Macbook' to go to the Macbook Page, it doesn't give you the usual options of different specs. (Apologies for the screenshots being in Windows lol).

The prices listed here are very strange?! 88 for a nano, 163 for an Apple TV? Education discounts don't usually affect these products...

Are you looking at normal Education discount or the extra-special Student discount?

Under Education the prices I see are £99.01 for the nano and £199 for the Apple TV.

He's talking about the prices I captured and posted in a post a couple of pages back

Two new offers are up.. 30% off Office with a Mac, and £60 rebate off a printer with a mac.. doesn't seem that either of them are offers specifically for back to school!!

 wheres the free iPod?!

Guess I'm going to have to wait another week!!

the £60 rebate off a printer was there before... I noticed it when I first started drooling over an iMac - four months ago! (I'm waiting for the student offer...)
feels so far away and yet so close.... aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh

(I think I saw the discount for the office software too but I didn't really take note of the exact amount as I'm not interested in getting that)
I can't see any differences on the apple site... oh well.. I'm off to Paris for a few days and hopefully the student offer will be there when I get back )

Why is it only me that gets the feeling that this offer supersedes the free ipod one?
People thing we're going to get a free ipod touch, and (effectively) a free printer with as little as a £600 laptop?
Seems a bit too good to be true! Sell the freebies and you're looking at about £400 for a brand spanking new basic macbook.

I'll see it when I believe it. Just remember this is the UK! :D

Oh yeah, I forgot, don't go buying Microsoft Office from the Store, it's badly overpriced even with those reductions =)

The prices you captured are the standard prices minus VAT.

No, for example, the iPod Touch price that I captured was £158.30. If you add vat, that becomes £186. The price of the iPod Touch should be £199.

The £60 off a printer offer was there a few months ago but was then removed and has reappeared today. The yanks went through a period of getting a free iPod touch AND the printer rebate so maybe we will get the same.

Maybe the iPod you're entitled to will be dependant on the mac you buy.

Yeah, the printer rebate and Office discount offer are new as of today, check the offer smallprint for the dates - they run until 31st October.

I'm not expecting a free iPod touch, especially if an upgrade is around the corner - £85 towards a nano was the offer last year, so I would think around that, perhaps £100 towards one would be the offer coming our way. Yes it is the UK, but due to the delay compared to the US, we are also getting newer products than them in the offer - that will impact on the value of the free item on offer!!

How do you know these will be newer products?
Surely Apple are running this offer as a means of getting rid of surplus current stock to make way for the new generation?
I bet they'll bring new generations out after the offer ends!

Because that is what happened last year - the iPod Nano 3rd generation was announced just before the offer started last year and Apple look set to release new iPods next Tuesday.......

The volumes of iPods sold are very much smaller in the UK so you are correct that the USA promotion is to shift old stock but it is a different story in the UK or ay least the timing seems to work in our favour.

The Santa Rosa MacBooks were released a couple of days after the end of the promotion last year but those of us who had purchased on the last day of the offer could return the MacBooks for Santa Rosa models.

seriously this is getting stupid now. when the hell are they going to start the back to school campaign in the UK. School has already started and lots of other companies such as eBuyer (i think) have already started.

COME ON APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does seem a bit strange that they start it after people go back to school, then it drags on into October when surely less people are in the market for laptops and computers!
I'm sure they know better than me though :D

...

Im now worried that it wont happen...

What do you reckon the chances of that would be?

Maybe they reckon that theres no need to provide an incentive to keep buying the old macbooks etc, as by the time our promo would start the new ones will have been announced (even if they take 2-4 weeks to actually ship!)

They better be a good spec and design when they do come out otherwise.....we'll all moan a little bit for a few days.

I'm thinking (base macbook):

Aluminium case
At least 2.2 C2D (hoping for 2.4)
At least 160GB HDD (wish for 200GB)
13.3" Screen
1GB RAM (it would be greedy not to go for 2 though - i'll be buying 4GB 3rd party anyway)
GMA X4500
8x DVD-RW Drive (if its a combo drive I will scream. Then consider whether I can get by with an obsolete disc drive)

my 2 cents (or ~1p) lol

It will come, whether it is as good as the US i.e. Touch, waits to be seen, but maybe next week, or more likely the week beginning the 15th Sept which is when the US promo finishes. Waiting to buy a iMac !!

I'm looking to buy a ipod touch and a macbook pro. I guess I don't mind if the back to school promo will be on either the updated versions of the two of not. Or, indeed, if it doesn't include the touch, I need a nano for the gym.

What do people think about whether or not this promo is going to happen? Should we be running to the apple store soon after the 9th September to buy the new touch? Or waiting for the promo and buying it with the MBP? I'm a little confused in this area...

It's worth waiting until the end of September if you are eligible for the Educational Discount as I am sure it will happen soon. But if it hasn't come out by the end of the month then it isn't happening.

I suggest you to wait. Last year I got my MAC with promo on begin of November.

It might start some time btw mid sep and begin october ....

Same here - I saved a bomb buying during the back to school promo, because I sold the iPod.

Those having a panic about it not happening should chill out for a week, last year it launched on the 11th September so going by history, we're looking at this week or next. Start worrying in two weeks if there isn't anything!

I believe the promo is aimed at University students who aren't back to "school" yet, hence the late timing of this offer. Secondary school students aren't the main target of the promotion.

so last year they released it on the 11th or 12th of september apparently. does anyone know what the UK promo was, but also what they were offering in the USA to compare it to.......

Firday the 12th would be nice, Apple do things on Tuesdays and Fridays right.

With the new iPod Touch for FREE :D

or a decent speed bump in the iMac within the next 4 weeks

...

Just seen the iPhone comes out 16th september on Pay as You go. £349 for the 8gb model, and you have to pay a minimum 0f £10 per month... not what I expected at all :(
NStocks

its not too bad. although you need to remember that over 12 months, the iPhone 8gb on contract is £520 (including the purchase of phone and then the £35 a month) where pay as you go is £469.99 (including purchase of phone and then the £10 min top up) and then you need to add on top of that any voicemail as well. if you were going to go for it you might as well got the £35 a month 18 month contract, or if you really cant afford the extra £90 then the £30 a month contract

yeah, I'm really thinking about the 8gb modl on the lowest contract possible. I'm only 17 and my job is only tempoary until I find out if there gonna make it permanent which should be within the next few weeks, plus I'm saving for the top of the line iMac and would really like a MacBook for college depending on the price and work needed at college .

I just hope we hear some news about this promotion, wether it be good or bad.
