Should many people's orders go from "Preparing to ship" to "Shipped" by tomorrow morning? I'm so ready to see this thing on the move, lol. I'm fr so hyped.

I just tried to upgrade with a $500 trade-in. Apple makes me select a carrier. I'm with AT&T now so I have no choice but to select AT&T. Then AT&T will charge $35 fee even though I do all the work of transferring from home.

Is this correct?
I always ask them to waive that fee and they’ve never refused.

Why would these be state wide? How can Apple calculate how many to ship? Where are they storing hundreds of thousands of phones? Who is paying all the shipping and storage?
They wouldn't need to know exactly how many to ship. They can make educated guesses based on prior releases and ship about that many. Orders over the amount that is already stateside would simply get pushed dates. As to storage... it's a lot of phones but I'm guessing that UPS probably would be happy to store them until the day comes. They don't have to all be in one place, you know. Apple isn't hurting for money and I'm guessing the logistics cost is included in the price of the phone.

From past experience, we probably won’t get shipped notification until Thursday morning. if Apple says Friday, you will get it on Friday.
This might be the first year I got UPS info this early. It was usually a bunch of updates Thursday morning before apple tells me it is shipped.

Verizon says that there is a $35 upgrade fee. When I receive my iPhone on Friday, will I need to call in to get the upgrade fee sorted, or will they just automatically put it on my next bill? Don't wanna sit on the phone with them all day because Verizon CS sucks.

It will be on the subsequent bill, unless you call them before the billing cycle is up and talk them out of it.

Gotcha, thank you. I would rather pay it than call them, as long as it doesn't keep me from activating my new phone.

The weather does look nasty.

60 hours and 5 minutes til my local UPS CC opens in Lubbock, TX
Curious about how you'll request the phone be held for you.

Seems the consensus is that UPS won't be holding phones at the CC. I certainly would prefer to go pick mine up on Friday morning as my CC opens.

It will show up automatically on your bill no need to call or pay anything during the activation process. Personally, I've contacted them each year and requested that it be waived (I mention how I've been a long time customer, paid my bill on time, etc.) and I've never been denied in the end. (This goes back to the iPhone 5.) I sometimes have to be firm that I want it waived, but I'm always polite. I've had better experiences through the chat because I actually have a written copy of what was said should I ever have to dispute it with them later (we're talking about Verizon here LOL), thankfully it's never gotten to that. Be prepared to be upsold out the wazoo and just politely decline any upsells and tell them you're simply contacting them about wanting the activation fee waived.

From past experience though if you'd like to go this route and attempt to get it waived, you will want to wait until after it shows up on your bill and the bill has closed. They have told me in the past that they can't escalate the charge before that. (Don't know if that's actually true, but again I've waited and had this done and they'll still always removed it.) It will cause you to have to pay a larger bill one month, but your next bill will essentially be $35 cheaper due to the credit.

Good luck if you chose to go that route.
