It will show up automatically on your bill no need to call or pay anything during the activation process. Personally, I've contacted them each year and requested that it be waived (I mention how I've been a long time customer, paid my bill on time, etc.) and I've never been denied in the end. (This goes back to the iPhone 5.) I sometimes have to be firm that I want it waived, but I'm always polite. I've had better experiences through the chat because I actually have a written copy of what was said should I ever have to dispute it with them later (we're talking about Verizon here LOL), thankfully it's never gotten to that. Be prepared to be upsold out the wazoo and just politely decline any upsells and tell them you're simply contacting them about wanting the activation fee waived.

From past experience though if you'd like to go this route and attempt to get it waived, you will want to wait until after it shows up on your bill and the bill has closed. They have told me in the past that they can't escalate the charge before that. (Don't know if that's actually true, but again I've waited and had this done and they'll still always removed it.) It will cause you to have to pay a larger bill one month, but your next bill will essentially be $35 cheaper due to the credit.

Good luck if you chose to go that route.
I appreciate it, fam. The info is much appreciated! I just didn't want to have to sit there and not be able to use my new phone over a $35 upgrade fee 😂

Curious about how you'll request the phone be held for you.

Seems the consensus is that UPS won't be holding phones at the CC. I certainly would prefer to go pick mine up on Friday morning as my CC opens.
The last two years I have called it in after I know that if it has hit Louisville, and they have had no problem, putting in a hold request, the year before last I just went in there and it was slow at the customer center and she just went ahead and entered the request in for me.

Got my Anchorage arrival scan 8:06pm. Yippee! We should be departing for SDF in about 2 hours, and will be there when we wake up tomorrow morning. Should have customs scans (real ones! 😂) by mid day tomorrow.

So you arrived before the truck left the CC to deliver? I thought I remembered the trucks leaving before I arrived in years past, though I was not there when they opened.

I thought I'd heard in 2022 that I couldn't pick it up at CC, but I did make a request and it was honored. Last year I was out of town and there was no one who would pick it up, so we let it get delivered.

As I recall, in 2022 the UPS app offered a change to the local UPS Stores, but not the CC. I believe I called UPS to make the change to the CC.

As of now, my iPhone has just been scanned into Anchorage. The Delivery Options are "currently unavailable". I do hope that changes when the phone arrives in Louisville, or when it finishes with Customs release.

My experience of the CC was wonderful. Usually I was the only customer, and once there was one guy who was filling out some paperwork and the staff was able to take care of both of us with no disruptions. I think it way better to pick up my phone at CC and allow the driver have one less delivery at 8pm.

Fingers crossed. Maybe if they won't let me make the change beforehand, I'll just show up with donuts at 8am when the doors open.

You have some nice UPS CC folks in TX.

We So Calif people will be laughed at us and tell us to pay money to have it held at a UPS store or UPS Access location.

Good luck this year, I am a fan of picking up packages at the UPS CC but Apple has made a change that prevents the holds at CC for iPhones / iPads / Macs . If you happen to get a hold, this is the last iPhone hold at UPS CCs .

You can always keep checking the Apple Store app to see if one pops up in your local Apple Store and do pickup if that works for you. If one is available, you can cancel your other order. That’s what I did. I originally had a delivery Oct 2-8 and I happen to check the app and found one for store pickup on 9/21!

For in-store pick up, if you are purchasing via T-mobile EIP. Are you able to have someone else pick it up for you? I assume the account holder has to pick up the phone.

The CC in Haslet, TX said they couldn’t hold it for me last year because of Apple’s restrictions: same great UPS people, but Apple changed the terms. So bummed: that option was terrific for me in prior years.

I just went on my lunch hour of that Wednesday of launch week, just like I will tomorrow, and I’ll have my tracking number on my phone, show my ID, and just ask to have it held, then on Friday, my off day, I’ll be there when the door opens at 11. The CC in Lubbock is in sort of the industrial old part of town, a lot of people don’t even have a clue it’s there.
I asked the girl last year when I picked up if it was busier, and she no busier than any other Friday. Most of what they get there could almost be considered as freight.
