It puzzles me how people will order something to be delivered and then scramble to figure out how to get the delivery because of any number of circumstances that were there when they placed the order. Can’t be there for delivery, schedule to pick it up at an Apple Store when placing your order.
I've said this before too. People freak out "oh if i don't get it Friday I'm going out of the country the next day" i've seen that before.

My status says delivery Sept. 20th but it's stuck on 'Preparing to ship'.

Anyone else?

It will say preparing to ship until it clears customs or wherever in the US it is hiding to start in your direction. Sign up for UPS MyChoice and as long as the name and delivery address match you should see some tracking.

It will be like that probably until tomorrow night or maybe even Friday morning.

During the iPhone 12 launch. Apple had me at PTS but UPS was updating. I got the Phone on launch day. Apple didn’t update the app until the next day, saying it was delivered the day before.

The pending charge for tax on my AC is no longer pending; it’s cleared! We’re getting closer.

I think you said you were off, I would just wait for the phone chilling lol, see the other persons story about the intercept . He got lucky they let him in the USP CC on a Saturday , the UPS Hub has workers on Saturday loading but the CC is closed .
Yeah, that’s my intention now. When the young lady UPS got my tracking number today, and she saw that my scheduled delivery was to be within 1115 to 315 on Friday, and the customer center doesn’t even open till 11 AM anyway, then I figure what’s the point. Hopefully it’s just one of those where the driver delivers at the early end of the window instead of the latter part of it. I’ve actually heard somewhere that the reason that UPS delivers on Friday, is that Friday is UPS‘s slowest day for deliveries.

Got a little worried there for a second, lol.

So strange, i never saw another iPhone customer in all the years I picked up my phone at my CC! I enjoyed the CC staff and they seemed pleased to reduced the number of truck deliveries for their drivers. Entire process took about 30 seconds!
I have had the same exact experience. Last three years that I’ve went in there, I was the first one in there and there was hardly anybody behind me and nobody was there for a phone. They thought that it was nice that I bought Krispy Kreme’s and I think they kinda looked at me like I was a little nuts or something, but They had no idea it was iPhone day, they were obviously android users

This is the one day what I would love to be in Louisville, Kentucky to be inside that distribution hub like on the tour and see all those containers full of iPhones before they start breaking them up to separate them to put them on separate planes before they start going out late tomorrow night/Friday morning

No. You won't get any extra credit for it, but they won't punish you in any way either. I like to send back the case and protector, proves it's been looked after and worth the money you're supposed to get back :) (or discount, whatever it may be)
IIRC, Apple even encourages you to trade in with case and screen protector so they can be recycled.

I have never encountered a restricted delivery before, even when ordering things worth over 10k USD.

You order the item, then when you get a tracking number, you arrange the most convenient place to pick the item up with the carrier.

I guess Apple assumes anyone who buys an iPhone is either an unemployed bum or ultra wealthy with a butler watching over the house 🤷‍♀️

(Or someone crazy enough to use their vacation time to get an iPhone instead of spending that time with their family.)

NOPE - Apple agreement with UPS prohibits CC pickup at UPS hubs due to large numbers of people demanding their phone and giving the CC staff a hard time over the past years.

Where is this coming from? Did some exec say this in some interview somewhere?

Also, I had the same restricted delivery when I ordered my Mac from Apple last month…a Mac that has been out for over a year…

Apple’s policy on their website says a package may only be held for pickup after a failed delivery attempt. It was posted earlier in this thread but I have no idea which post it was now.

It’s been from last fall after iPhone launch . I ordered a MBP last November and it was restricted delivery as well .
