Okay, so took 6 minutes to restore from encrypted backup. Immediately afterwards it asked if I wanted to move my watch which I said yes to and that took 10 seconds,
For other's playing along. You setup your new iPhone first and if using the Quick Start it will ask about paring your Watch. It is not instant and you might want to have your Watch charger while it restarts and then syncs data. Please keep your new iPhone near your watch so the Data can sync over Bluetooth.

Have done all the voodoo I can for delivery by 6:15 PM. Took a shower, made my bed, ordered groceries and put them away, ordered Uber Eats (traditional Friday ritual for daughter and me). Backed up my old phone and my case (Apple Ultramarine) is waiting. Anything else I should do?

for fun i looked at my local store online in Scottsdale, AZ. EVERY color and storage is available in the max for in store pickup today which is somewhat surprising. At least the people waking up today can get their phone of choice.
San Tan and Chandler seem to have most everything in stock for pickup today or tomorrow as well.

Off topic. If i start new and do not use an i cloud backup, am i able to then import my old messages and passwords from said backup? I guess I would be open to starting new and not having all the apps that aren’t necessary but still want my backed up messages, etc. Does that make Sense? Thanks!

Yup, I had delivery ETA 9:10-11:10 (it's 11:15 now) with the truck on the map just a couple blocks away and suddenly it can't show me the map anymore and the ETA has changed to "Before 8pm". Sigh.
I had that exact same thing happen to me last year with my AWU2. The watch actually got delivered about ten minutes after this occurred.

I always do this, I never setup from an iCloud backup, always like to start fresh but keep my messages, photos, etc. Just make sure that everything is turned on under iCloud (Messages, photos, mail, etc.) and when you setup your new device, you just have to make sure the same toggles are on.

Always do an iCloud backup just in case though. But you don't need it, everything will be saved via iCloud and download via iCloud

Got my 256gb Desert Titanium Pro Max delivery! Oddly, the UPS driver didn’t get a signature from me; just left them at the door. Thankfully, they rang the doorbell at least so I knew they were there.

Now I’m just getting it all set up and transferring data from my 14PM. It quoted me at 15-20 minutes, but now it’s estimating 3 hours until completion 😓
Which method of transferring are you using?

So if I understanD, I’ll set up as new. when i am happy, i can then import my messages and photos from iCloud? I guess i never tried to ONLY restore messages, photos and passwords.

Welp, the UPS truck just came with three other packages, except for my 16 Pro Max. He said it could be on another truck & this has happened to a few people on the route today. Before it was out for delivery it said that a reschedule was requested. Fingers crossed it does arrive by eod 😅

Yup! Just set up as a new device, make sure everything is synced to iCloud on your old device (Settings > your name > Saved to iCloud > everything you want is ON)

Everything will be uploaded to iCloud, then turning them on your new device will download all your messages. I'm not sure if it takes time to upload if you're turning it on for the first time since I've always had mine on. But again, just do a backup in case and you can always delete it after

The capture button isn’t retaining the settings you put in is it? Seems like mine is for exposure and tone. Hoping that’s just because I’m opening it back up to soon.

This is what I did, I just got done setting up my stuff:

- Setup without another device
- Don't transfer anything
- You'll get a screen showing exactly how the new phone will setup, Apps & Data being none, but you can carry over some settings data which I like, like dark mode and such.
- Sign into Apple ID
- Your homescreen and all default apps are there, there is no installed apps from your old phone, and since you logged in with your Apple ID all photos and messages and contacts will be there. Basically whatever is toggled on in your iCloud will be synced to your iPhone.

This morning my iPhone was on a truck and out for delivery and then all the sudden I’m getting these messages about it being stuck at customs and needing to be released by a government agency? Whaaaaat?! lol never seen this.

Just an hour or two ago I was literally in the UPS app and I could see the truck making stops nearby. I don’t know what changed.

Awesome thank you.

One of the package wants backwards to custom Clearance in progress. Hopefully, I will get all 4 of them today.
