Does Apple use FedEx for phones? I have a shipment coming from Apple Superhub in Clayton IN and it’s 3 lbs??? Says overnight priority! No date for delivery yet… not doing a trade in … only phone and otterbox case …
Every year it seems that there's SOME phones already stateside. You might be one of those exceptions. It will be interesting to see....in any event, if it's overnight priority, it won't move until next Thursday. But otherwise, Apple uses UPS exclusively for launch day phones.

Correct.

Most launch day iPhones are shipped from China to US via UPS; but there are some already in country - those reserved for media influencers, employee use, Apple Store.

One year, I had a launch phone get stalled in China but on launch day, I got a delivery via FedEx from a local Apple warehouse - found out the phone was originally slated for the Apple Store but diverted one for me.

That was a nice gesture on the part of Apple.

I don't know about you, but my dog is fully involved in all of my tech purchases. We have no secrets.
Mine sleeps next to me. When I woke up much earlier than usual, he looked over to see what the heck I was doing. Then he poked his nose at my phone, where I was trying to get into the store app. Then he sighed and went back to sleep.

That about says it all, I think.

I noticed that the Apple Card option wasn't offered on Tuesday, as well. I went back yesterday to confirm my saved device and the Apple Card option was there. I changed it then, and this morning, it was ready to go - the most flawless order that I can ever recall.
It was Apple Pay that wasn't offered to me. I could only use the regular checkout process. The Apple Card was offered and worked, but I had to spend time getting the CVV and expiration date, all with the clock ticking.

For many years (about a decade), I've also had a long-standing bug in Apple Pay that ONLY got triggered on iPhone purchases each year, where it doesn't like my address. EVERYTHING ELSE (MacBooks, iPads, etc. etc.) goes through without any issue, every time so far.

It's your watch, if you ordered one. Both my watches are coming from Clayton, IN as well. It's Apple's newest logistics/warehouse/shipping hub.
Yeah I ordered a series 10 black. I didn’t recognize that location so it threw me off. My series 9 last year came from China just like the phone.

For those choosing to go to the store to pick it up, why? Some reasons I can think of include:

  • You don't work from home and don't want to risk a package coming when you're not home to sign for it
  • You don't want it to or can't have it come to work for some reason
  • You want the comfort of having a specific time (at the store) when you can get your phone
  • You, for some reason, have to have it at the absolutely earliest possible second on Friday, and the store pickup accomplishes that
  • You don't want to risk getting a damaged phone at home and then having to deal with that headache
  • You don't want your wife/husband/girlfriend/mistress/dog or other cohabitant to know
  • You need the store's help in transferring to a new phone
  • You're trading in and need to go to the store to most easily accomplish that process, or simply don't want to put your current phone in the mail (FedEx, etc.), given some of the horror stories that are out there
  • You want to be part of the "launch day social experience" at an Apple Store
What else is there?

I'm just wondering what would incentivize people enough to endure the absolute zoo of being at an Apple Store on a launch day.

Full disclosure: mine are being delivered at home because there is no way I want to endure the zoo experience, plus I have no reason to avoid the extreme convenience of home delivery.
For me we are at the end of the UPS route and nothing ever arrives before 8 PM. The Apple Store is a few minutes away and I enjoy seeing the same people every year during pickup.

You will miss the excitement, but also the anxiety, so I think it's a wash!!! :)
There's not really any anxiety, we know with 99.99% that any Sept. 20th iPhone delivery will make it on that day. lol

I considered ISPU to save time, not reduce anxiety. Mostly saving time with not reading every page of this thread! But when it didn't work in the first two tries, I switched back to UPS delivery.

Knowing that the phone, if it ships early out of Asia, will sit in Louisville for days without a scan. That's just how it works, it gets no more scans until it moves to ship on Thursday to your local UPS CC.

Knowing that the phone, if it doesn't ship early, will get on a flight, maybe even as late as Thursday (Asia time) and still make it to Louisville to get the same scan as the phones that have sat there for days by that time.

See, hanging out at this thread just cost me another 5 minutes typing this message. lol

Ran into a few issues this morning - namely the inability to change my shipping address because according to Apple this was the billing address on the Verizon account, even though it wasn't. I looked everywhere in the Verizon account and could not find the old address. I'm under a family plan so there are a lot of addresses on the account but the old address wasn't one of them. Eventually, I gave up and opted to pick the phone up at my local Apple Store. Curiously, I haven't been charged yet and guess I won't be until I pick the phone up. Also, even though I received a notice saying the case and screen protector I ordered are available now I assume I can wait to pick these up next Friday. An Apple rep I spoke with said you have seven days to pick up your order after it's placed so I should be good.

Every time I order on Apple, my Apple Card automatically gets used as a default.

Never even have to pull the card out or open the app to get the CVV or anything.

Just goes right thru!

damn… i had the exact opposite experience, it let me use apple pay and i checked out a minute after preorder started

When should I start seeing charges for stuff for In Store Pickup preorders? Two phones, two watches, two AirPods all hanging around in the ethos just makes me nervous, wish they’d take the money off of my card.

Last year was the last time you could have it held at the UPS CC for pickup. It just caused to many issues for Apple and UPS. You should still be able to redirect it in the UPS My Choices for a small fee to a UPS Retail store location. Just make sure you check their hours.

Dave
Be careful sending it to a UPS Store, it might not be available until the following day. Perhaps they have fixed that issue with the changes that included no CC pickup, but every time I looked into that in 2022 and years before, it would arrive at the Store too late in store hours to be processed, and it wouldn't be ready for pickup until Saturday.

Again, that may have changed, but be aware it might not be ready for you on Friday.

Picked up the case today!

Thanks I thought so too… has to be a mistake.
I’ve had only very small items delivered thru FedEx from apple, like cases and airtags occasionally. Sometimes I’ve had to drop off my trade ins (gift card ones only, not ones linked to an order) through a FedEx Office too but other than that everything from Apple has been thru UPS. Might just be an east coast thing
