Great! Finally! Ican choose which app i prefer to use rather than adding lots of useless apps on my phone.

I would rather just install apps i use than loads of preinstalled apple apps i never use… And everybody wins - if you like to stick with apple apps, then choose them! if you dont, you now i have a choice to be without apple apps too.
Good for you, you’re tech savvy, but give the phone to someone who isn’t (your mum, spouse, etc.) and suddenly you’re back into the PC World of 24/7 parental tech support.

This might sound easy to you, but anyone with parents or grandparents that have iPhones or iPads are likely ALREADY getting stupid phone calls about how to accomplish easy to do things. The confusion and frustration that's going to be felt by a ton of less savvy tech people who expect the new flashy phone/tablet to just bought to be filled with the apps they need/want to use already will be off the charts.

You already have the freedom and flexibility to use other apps, other than the default ones, and that works for you. Why can't you just delete the ones you don't want, and grab the apps you do instead? That's a far easier task for you, than the opposite is for a less savvy tech person.

and after that google, samsung and the others...this is hard to believe that will happen...
An empty phone...from where do you install the apps since that implies the app store will not to be on the iphone since app store is an APP by apple
The IQ level is very low...and it will not happen
Maybe Cicilline is trolling us
I agree this bill sounds like too much, but not for that reason. The phone could come preloaded with Apple's apps and their competitors - then when the user picks which apps they want, it just deletes the others. All of the app stores should be able to install all of those initial apps, should a user change their mind and decide to swap to another.

no one isnt prohibiting you to still use the same apps. but it gives you to freedom not to install useless crap in your phone.
Mrex, are you realy saying this? I hope you’re joking…

and next time I buy a Ford I want the option to have a GM infotainment system ... what utter nonsense ...
All the car companies besides Tesla outsource the infotainment system - swapping between them isn't that difficult. That's why third party infotainment systems are able to exist that you can just pop in yourself aftermarket.

So... you can't have a Ford or a GM infotaiment system, because there's no such thing. It's like asking for a Dell or Lenovo OS. Those companies just put Windows or Linux on their computers and slap their own logo on the bootscreen, and maybe have an app or two preinstalled. They don't make an OS though.

Ehm.. are you kidding me? you dont need to be tech-savvy to install something from appstore. if that is a synonym for tech-savvy people nowadays, then what would we call a people who can turn on a computer? An alien? Even my grandma knows how to install apps from appstore… i wonder how people were able to use dos awhile go when they even cannot tap nowadays…

Have you ever bought a phone for your mum? We choose Apple because it just works without all the mess. Introducing mess doesn’t help anyone. If you want mess, choose a different platform.

I assume you also bought your mum an Apple One subscription otherwise half the icons on the Home Screen of her new iPhone do nothing at all for her.

Curious what phone do you use? You do realize you can delete the majority of apps that come installed - or simply use alternatives on the App Store.
On Android, some "system apps" cannot be deleted, except via rooting. Even then some stubborn apps can't be removed, ie Samsung's Galaxy Store appstore. The only real way is to wipe the phone and install a custom ROM. That's only if there's a custom ROM available.

IMO, Apple isn't so bad about bloatware as Samsung or Hauwei.

Microsoft was almost broken up because they installed IE on Windows PCs 25 years ago. What Apple, Microsoft, and Google have gotten away with the past 15 years or so is incredibly far beyond that.

This legislation makes total sense and I support it.

Monopolies are a bad thing folks.
Thank goodness for our betters in Washington to protect us from the scourge of a phone that just works out of the box.

Let's also hope that iOS won't be allowed to have a built in dictionary anymore, so no politicians or voters can discover that "mono" in "monopoly" means "one". This way, they won't have to mentally reconcile the so-called iOS monopoly with the existence of Android.
