Apple altered devices not belonging to them well after the sale. If batteries were the issue they could have replaced batteries under warranty or notified users that their batteries needed servicing. Let the investigations begin.

So you're claiming Apple/Google/Samsung/etc. are barred by law from "altering" devices after sale with software updates that users must download and install themselves? Guess we better shut down Silicon Valley now then.

Tim isn't going anywhere. It's overseen Apple climb to their most profitable point in history. He's overseen quarter after quarter of record breaking earnings.

Please, tell us what he's done to be ousted from a position he's run beautifully?

The only thing I can think of is that he's a homosexual liberal who (rightfully) speaks out against issues that he cares deeply about.

Because Steve Jobs laid down such a good legacy that anyone would have been able to keep growing the profits, and the recent success hapened despite Tim Cook's horrendous management style. He has the classic corporation manager attitude that has lead so many creative departments to destruction.

We're in a Sculley era. Most haven't realised this yet. Apple needs a new Steve, somebody with true vision, of the likes of Elon Musk.

lol you installed the update, then you agreed to changes, they do not have to be disclosed. If you even took time to read the notes when an update comes up you'd see terms you agreed to. You cannot blame Apple for you not reading. Not to mention the average user has no idea how batteries and programming languages work. Because if you took the time to learn anything about how batteries work and how programming works, you'd see this is very much overblown, but of course everyone is always looking for free stuff so of course lets all jump on the Apple is bad bandwagon to claim our prizes. Good grief.

The government also need to investigate Apple abusing iCloud locking people out of their devices to force them to buy new devices even when it hasn't been reported lost.

You can take off the tinfoil hat now...

Terms and conditions. No guarantee of performance. Software updates are expected over the life of a phone.

This will be a big nothing. Apple vs a government investigation. Gee, I wonder who is smarter and has better lawyers.

I don't consider a 6s, running at a clock speed slower than a 5s due to a poor battery, a slightly slower device.

I don’t consider clock speed reported by an App or benchmark a reliable source of device speed.

For that you’re going to have to run some Apps and compare their speed and responsiveness.

I dont believe Apple when they say the only reason they do this is to hold battery on par. My 1st gen apple watch has become SO slow with each update that now currently starting a workout can sometimes take a minute or two before it starts. Worst case it just seem to completely stop. And recently I sent my watch in for repair and Apple gave me a brand new one, so the battery should be completely fine. But the watch is slow, almost to the point it's not worth keeping it anymore.

Oh good grief. You’d think the government would have more important things to worry about.

Would you be ok with Apple removing a gig of ram out of your phone after the sale? Obviously there are limits to what can or should be done via software. "Battery Service Needed" ... see how easy that would have been.

Ah ok, the old looking for free stuff claim. Still doesn't make what Apple did right. Sorry!

Totally disagree. This upset millions of consumers who were unaware their devices were being throttled. And in a way, it's planned obsolescence without disclosure. Not OK. Instead of quietly throttling old iPhones, maybe Apple should do what consumers are asking for and make a better battery?
Nothing the government needs to be involved with. If the company wasn’t named Apple there wouldn’t be a government investigation.

This has gotten beyond absurd.

Apple can do whatever they want with managing CPU and battery performance on any device at any time. It is beyond insane to suggest that anyone outside of Apple has any right to any particular level of CPU performance at any given time.

Tim Cook has embarrassed Apple by admitting wrong where none existed and has opened the company to undue scrutiny.

Nah. Slowing down old iPhones isn't acceptable to me.
