Thank you Senators .... for clueing me in that these apps exist. They'll make a most welcome edition to my app collection. Three wars, 14+ trillion in debt and counting with a complete and utter unwillingness to deal with the real fundamental issues driving the long term debt, an ever shrinking middle class and these clowns, who can't even agree on a bill to fund the government for the rest of this fiscal year (which ends in September), want to waste their time and our tax dollars worrying about apps on the iPhone?

We're toast ladies and gentleman. Smoke em while you got em!!!!!

This is a great chance for rebellion, cmon apple lets stand up to the man and its rules. the law is there to protect us not to have power over us Steve for president :apple:

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” -Steve Jobs

Amendment 1

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech; or of the press; or of the right of the people peacably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

These Senators need to fix the real problems and stop trying to infringe on Constitutional guaranteed free speech. Just because some one doesn't like what is said doesn't mean they don't get to say it.

This app differs in no way from me calling my buddy and informing him that I just drove through an DUI inspection. Should I not be able to do that either?

They are not passing a law, they are just asking for it to be removed. Big difference.

Personally, I think that Apple should have a hands off approach to apps. However, their approach, is still legal relative to the 1st adm.

what a hassle to go through a checkpoint when driving to work or home late at night. Again, just the fact that im driving on a road late at night does not mean im suspect to be committing any "violation".

If you're too drunk to drive, you're probably too drunk to use such an app.

I say keep 'em.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the openness of my new Android phone...

With the press this is getting this app is going to be in the top 10 soon. LOL

Look out "Angry Birds"

Hahaha! I don't know if we should be laughing or crying. Oh well, lighting one up now.

Well it's not really that big of a difference. It's a rather subtle difference because whether Cong. passes a law to censor private expression or they write a letter "kindly asking" a private company to censor itself really accomplishes the same effect. While neither is enforceable b/c such a law would likely not pass Constitutional muster and a letter is just a letter it's similar to Al Capone visiting a Speak Easy in the 1930s for a friendly chat with the owner.

Censorship is retarded.

I despise drunk drivers. Anyone who disrespects human life and safety enough to get in the driver's seat while intoxicated deserves jail time. But that being said, information is not inherently evil, it's a matter of how people choose to use it.

When you pull the "We gotta keep these secrets for safety" card, it's very easy to abuse it.

I'd rather we spend our time and energy on more effective means to stop drunk driving long before it reaches a check point. It's too late after they are already behind the wheel.

That being said, I am sure Apple will cave.

usually I am with apple,

but yea these should be pulled!! DUI is so dumb.

if you are DUI would you even be smart enough to open this app.

i prefer to not have to sit in line and waster my time so some suburban cop can get his jollies. Im usually not a very happy camper when they get to my car.

Apple Please Don't Cave To DC Scum!!!

Washington DC are the puppets of the financial mafia so THEY are in no position to dictate ANYTHING to anyone regarding ETHICS or MORALITY!!!!

How is the prosecution of the banksters coming guys?????....yea that is what I thought.....crickets....

Screw censorship. These apps have one and only one purpose....to aid those that are breaking the law.

I'm all for not aiding criminals.

Personally I find it hard to believe that so drunk as to warrant avoiding a checkpoint will be collected enough to use the app effectively in the first place.

Agreed. If you are conscious enough to navigate that little screen, you're good enough to drive.

I love the basic misunderstanding many of you have about constitutional rights, and find it more disturbing how many of you seem to support drunk driving. Get over it, this app should be pulled.

I'm not in denial, as much as I am well-informed.

...And for those shouting about the Fourth Amendment(I think it was only one person) illegal search and seizure does not apply(via Katz and other cases) in situations where illegal activities are occurring, driving while intoxicating being illegal.
You may be somewhat informed but you aren't very intelligent, because you don't seem to understand the very simple concept that the search and seizure in this case is happening before the illegal activities were happening. The 4th Amendment is supposed to stop unannounced checkpoints like these conducted by police from even happening at all.

Supporting your constitutional right to privacy is not the same as supporting drunk driving. Look at the links I posted earlier. Checkpoints are 10x less effective than roving patrols. A modern checkpoint is not at all about catching drunk drivers and is completely about writing as many tickets for as many little things as possible, such as writing fix it tickets for tail lights being out or a small crack in your windshield that you can't yet afford to get replaced.

I don't see many, if any on here SUPPORTING drunk driving.

You are obviously missing every point that people are making.
