I just called the Apple store where i reserved my iPhone and they asked for my name, I gave it to them and they told me that I am on the list. They said they will hold my phone for me until the store closes on june 24th.

Exactly what I did as well. I'm glad the Apple Stores are being so professional about this; Apple is doing all they can, whereas AT&T sucks monkey nuts :mad: I better get my fully discounted phone ... I'm planning on calling at&t sometime this week to get some sort of documentation that allows me to say that I quality for a discount.

This is odd/Anyone else get this?

Like most of you, I spent most of yesterday on Apple.com and Attwireless.com trying to pre-order an iPhone 4. I got close to closing the deal several times, but the site either 'timed out' (Apple) or said I was missing my phone # and address ON MY ATT ACCOUNT PAGE (Don't they already have that?)

Anyway, I gave up and decided to go to Best Buy and pre-order the phone there. In and out in 5 minutes and #26 in line. Awesome.

Then tonight, I get an email from AT&T saying the following:

"(MY NAME)
Order Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
CTN: XXXXXXXXXXX

Thank you for your order. Your iPhone4 pre-order has been received and is being processed in the order it was received. You do not need to take any action. You will receive an email from us if we need any additional information.

You can track your order online by entering your order number at www.wireless.att.com/order_status or by calling our automated system at 877-782-8870.

Please note: Your order status may not be available if your order was placed within the past 24 hours.

Thank you,
AT&T"

I find this a bit odd since I never received an actual confirmation that the phone had been ordered (not an email), just a prompt saying thanks, etc. etc.

Any thoughts on what the deal is here?

You didn't 'pre order' at Radio Shack or Bestbuy. You reserved one. When you go to 'buy' it, they will check your eligibility. Pre-order through Apple Online Store and they verify AT&T eligibility on the spot.

I'm sorry to inform you that you didn't purchase an iPhone yet, sir. You simply put your name on a list. A fancy one, but they could have done it with pen and paper.

You are right though in that if you a)went and reserved a phone b)ordered one through Apple/ATT and then c)tried to go and pick up your reserved phone, you wouldn't get it. Radio Shack would check the system system for your eligibility and it would fail. I'm telling you, there is a glitch in the Apple Store online ordering process. I've tried to order multiple every year, and it's never worked. This time is different.

I already planned to have my friend use his full upgrade and sell me the Iphone 4 for $299. He went to ATT to pre-order and they said no to his debit card. So he could not order it. I got worried about being able to get one.

I was eligible for the early upgrade of $499 for 32GB. So I worried if he could get it at all. So I tried all day to get an order with Apple and got through for the 32GB at $499.

Today he went to Best Buy and was able to pre-order. So I'll probably the Iphone he buys. BB told him I'd have to take it to the ATT store to activate it since we're doing an upgrade swap.

Will there be a problem cause I ordered a phone on my line but I'm not using that one but instead I'm using a different Iphone 4?

So I'll probably sell the $499 one.

Will there be any problems when I go to activate my Iphone?

Nope. You'll be fine. When you plug your phone into iTunes, that's where you enter all your information. THEN, and only then does it sync the phone to your account.

You'll be free to do whatever you want with your iPhone. Pretty nice friend willing to sign a two year contract on your behalf though.

I got the same thing as you just a few minutes ago. I'm considering myself lucky since every other person I know has received the other email telling them the order did not go through and they need to try again. I have no notice of when my order will ship, but again, I think we should consider ourselves lucky. If we didn't get this email then we would both be ordering a phone that won't show up for over two weeks or standing in line with at least a thousand of our closest mac buddies.

i got two

Yes, you can do that. The catch is you had to sign a two year contract to get the phone.

It's not unlocked technically, but you are free to do whatever you'd like with it. You signed a two year agreement. You can activate it wherever you'd like, but you are still stuck paying the ATT monthly fee. (one would ask why buy the phone, sign the two year deal, and sell the phone you have to use)

Again, hence why people are able to sell their iPhone before the two year contract is over. You promise to have a contract for however much money per month to ATT. You can even go and purchase a prepaid phone, swap sim cards, and have it sit on a lower price plan without the data and sell the iPhone.

If you don't want an iPhone, you can buy one, sell it, and go back to using your original phone. I promise. It can be done. Ask anybody who has purchased an iPhone with a friend, parent, siblings' upgrade, and given it to another ATT customer. I promise you can buy an iPhone and do WHATEVER the hell you want with it, but remember, you promised to keep the line active for 2 years with ATT.

I got two phones on the same plan. That is 2 iphone preorders on one line. They will arrive on different dates. I plan on activating the first phone. Once the new phone arrives, I will sell the 1st arrival without its SIM card. I will then use the 2nd phone as my iphone on my one line. I thought about getting a third phone and doing it again. This would allow me to sell two phones and essentially decimate the early cancellation fee. That way, once iphone is released to other carriers later this year, I could switch over to whomever that is.

The 14th!?!??!

I knew I should have ordered this morning!

Now, I'm starting to think that the lines outside the Apple Store on June 24 are going to be LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG !!!

Oh, and good luck trying to activate your phone on the 24th when all the pre-orders arrive at people's houses. AT&T's servers will jam all over again.

Why would you activate the first one and then use the second one(once it arrived)? Why wouldn't you just sell the second one unopened? Would you sell the activated second one if you got a 3rd too?

My waiting will be done on my couch while sipping a frosty cold beer and watching for the FedEx truck. Bwaaa haaaa haaaa!

It'll probably arrive before noon... You'll be drinkin' early huh? :)

I plan to be telecommuting on Thursday. I hope it arrives before I switch from coffee to whiskey.

The activation is going to complete mayhem! Brace yourselves...

How about you? I skipped the ATT upgrade eligibilty step (I know I'm already eligible) so I could at least get my name on one. I downloaded and used the new Apple Store App to place my reservation. The email I got confirming my res shows the wrong price but I'm quite sure you can prove your eligibilty at the time of purchase.

Ok thank you!

My friend has a 3G and is happy with it. He just texts and makes calls. I even offered the 3GS to him and he said he'll just keep his.

So if I were to walk into the Apple store on the first day and pick up an Iphone 4 (hypothetically speaking), would they charge me the $599/$699 price since they will see that I used my early upgrade already?

Should I Be Upset?

I ordered 32g iphone4 on the 15th. about 10am pacific.
I got a confirmation email almost immediately with a link to my order status.
The status said "received"and later changed to "processing"

I then proceeded to the ATT site. Accessed my account and my order status, and got nothing.... about 8 hours later I checked the website version, and it said processing though with the order date saying the 16TH!!!!

I talked to two reps, one said trust the email conf. the other said the website is legit, because of all the back processing....

Does this mean I missed the cutoff for release day delivery????

lol there needs to b people that preordered the new 3gs 8gb and they act all super excited to get it.. ahaha

What email did you get? I've been through it a few times. You don't have to activate the iPhone on the line you ordered it with. You can use other upgrades and use the physical phone on other lines. I promise.

So I'll tell you what I did. I bought one yesterday through the pre-order. I bought one today through the pre-order and I will be buying one tomorrow through the pre-order. I am getting them through the apple store by clicking on pre-order through an "existing" account. When my first one arrives on June 24, I will activate it. When my 2nd one arrives on July 2nd, I will activate it under the same line and sell the June 24th one without a SIM card. Then when the third one arrives later, I will do it all over again. You're ok brownieguy.. This is a major glitch and who knows if AT&T is aware of it. They aren't going to look through 600,000 emails to see who is getting two.

im still confused why you are activating the ones you aren't using.

They're not going to have to "look through 600,000 emails."

I'm curious about this too. Have 2 order confirmation from Apple. 2 subsidized prices on the same line. One comes on the 24th and the other on the 8th. What exactly should I do here? How much do you think I could sell the one on the 24th for? If demand is so high and there is no supply, the extra cash could be useful.

Sooo... if my AT&T contract expires July 11th and I can't get my hands on a 4 before that, will I have to renew without a new iPhone and lose upgrade eligibility. If so, wow I'm screwed.

if it expires anytime this year u are eligible for an upgrade with a 2year contract. and no you dont have to renew a contract when it ends.

ull have to just check ebay and craigslist on the 24 to see what they are going for..

So you really think I've got an extra phone at the subsidized price? There's got to be some kind of a check soon.

well the apple stores on the 24th are doing a limit of 2 per customer so preorders could definitely b the same.
