THIS.I guess I don't really understand why people wanted to reserve, rather than pre-order.
It was fairly apparent to me that a reservation gave me a spot in line, where the preorder actually placed an order/charged me, and guaranteed (as much as could be) an iPhone 4 on launch day.
Was there any benefit to reservations over preordering?
Chris
It will suck if they push back the Canada release date![]()

I totally don't get it. My card has been charged and I do not have to wait in line. Other than the experience of waiting in line I don't understand why anyone would reserve if they didn't have to.
I understand why this could be confusing. In my case, I tried to pre-order several times throughout the day. With all the ATT server issues, the pre-order process always ended with "there's a problem, but you can still reserve for pick-up at your nearest Apple Store" or something like that.
Also, my wife was being denied the early upgrade eligibility so ATT recommended I handle that in the store on launch day rather than paying full price and trying to get reimbursed.
Thanks a lot! I guess mine is just a reservation. oh well, I am already ready to embrace the queing experience on 24th then.

Did you even read the confirmation e-mail:
"As soon as your iPhone ships, we'll send you additional information, including your phone number. Once you have your iPhone, activating and syncing it is simple. "
You may not activate it yourself, but there will be a phone number attached to it under YOUR name.
Boy, people like you are in for a rude awakening come June 24.
Hey all, I purchased two phones by qualifying with the same number which is due for an upgrade. I got both for the $300 price. If I try to activate one of those on a lune that isn't due for an upgrade, will I be charged the additional $200?

I am amazed by the fact that people think they will fool AT&T by buying two iPhone 4s on an upgrade eligible line and use one of them on a line that is not eligible for the upgrade. If that was so easy, a lot of people would do that and they would siphon money from AT&T by getting around contract requirements.
Remember that AT&T has to make money on you. It is not a charity. You signed a contract when you got a previous upgrade at a discounted price. The two years of the contract are what AT&T needs to recoup its discount on the phone price.
I pre-ordered one black iPhone 4 to replace my 3G ( I did not get the 3GS). I could not order one for my wife who has Crackberry because Radio Shack had a one phone per family requirement. She went to BB and pre-ordered (with a $50 deposit) a white one. I was the first one at the local RS so I am guaranteed to get mine on June 24th but I have doubts about my wife getting the white one on the same day.
Calm down everyone! Pre-authorizing is what is going on right now when you try to reserve an iPhone at apple.com, not reserving. If you reserved you are fine!
You didn't 'pre order' at Radio Shack or Bestbuy. You reserved one. When you go to 'buy' it, they will check your eligibility. Pre-order through Apple Online Store and they verify AT&T eligibility on the spot.
I'm sorry to inform you that you didn't purchase an iPhone yet, sir. You simply put your name on a list. A fancy one, but they could have done it with pen and paper.
You are right though in that if you a)went and reserved a phone b)ordered one through Apple/ATT and then c)tried to go and pick up your reserved phone, you wouldn't get it. Radio Shack would check the system system for your eligibility and it would fail. I'm telling you, there is a glitch in the Apple Store online ordering process. I've tried to order multiple every year, and it's never worked. This time is different.
