**** U2! they haven't even been relevant for a decade!

They have had some of the highest grossing tours of the last decade including thee highest grossing tour ever just 2 years ago. I would say they are very relevant. Biggest band in the world co-promoting one of the largest brands.

Doesn't take a genius to figure out why that works.

Maybe. But probably not. "Jumping the shark" doesn't mean an event the some people don't like. If it did, then Apple jumped the shark with the release of the first iPhone. And the second one. And every keynote speech. Ever.

Are you really going on record as saying that "Apple is Doomed!?"

"Doomed", no of course not. But when you need U2 to promote your keynote event, you've lost your cool factor. It just comes off as cheesy and lame. If true, Apple's trying way too hard.

While I am a fan of U2, I still don't want them taking up significant time at this event. With new iPhones, a whole new product category in iWatch, and lots of software including payments, HomeKit, HealthKit, etc., I feel like there is already too much there to do justice in a few hours. Hence, U2, great as they are, will feel like a distraction and an unnecessary crutch. People don't watch these events for the musical guests (who are never even announced before the event), they watch for the Apple products and the focus needs to remain firmly planted on them.

Still crossing my fingers for a "one more thing" ~$200-$250 "pro" Apple TV with App Store and gaming controller, but I know it's a fantasy. The Metal demo that Epic gave at WWDC shows that an iPad Air with an A7 is already capable of stunning realtime graphics. Imagine what an A8 could do, in a less thermally-constrained environment, running on your lower-resolution tv (about 35% fewer pixels even at 1080p, about 70% fewer pixels at 720p).

I am surprised at the complaining. Seems like a pretty damn awesome tribute to Steve; the whole thing. A huge venue that hasn't been presented at by them in 30 years, and a band that were great friends of his, possibly bundled with Product Red - which does great things. I can tell the 12 year old minds that want to bash but the symbolism is really quite sweet if you think about it. Hope they knock it out of the park tomorrow.

It is not clear exactly what U2 will reveal on Tuesday or how it will be connected to Apple ...

Maybe there will only be *one* "iWatch," and the lucky person who pays $10 million for it will also get a U2 concert at their venue of choice. For just 100 of their closest friends. And, of course, all the money would go to the RED charity.
/s

I had thought that the mystery building that Apple is constructing outside Flint Center in Cupertino would be either 1. a mocked-up house for demoing HomeKit-connected devices, or 2. a simulated fitness club so media types can check their pulses etc. while wearing the "iWatch," or 3. a mini-CVS or Starbucks where media type could use iPhone "6" and "iWatch" to (pretend to) purchase items securely.

But now I'm thinking it will be a U2 concert venue. I wonder if they got the appropriate permits from Cupertino City Hall...

Ahh come on. You've been around long enough to know that structure isn't a stage. Why hide a stage ? What is the logic behind hiding a stage and having security go to the extreme to keep anyone from snapping a photo of a stage ?

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Either way it's going to be hilarious explaining to the youngsters who these old farts are or why they are relevant still.

"Um, it's U2 aaaaaand , I don't have an answer to the second question"

Multi million? Are you lost?

Autocorrect corrected my billion into billion.
(That might have been a mistake on my part, but I know what I'm talking about)

Moral of the story: they have lots and lots of money.

EDIT: multibillion was corrected to multimillion, let's all be happy now.

So you think they're not trying hard enough. But way too hard.

All we care about is the products themselves. Not the silly symbolism and historical stuff. Whatever.

Guys... guys... guys......

Let's not blow it all outa proportion, huh? It's an Apple event with a U2 appearance, not a U2 concert with an Apple appearance.

Calm yourselves down... just regain perspective, huh?

You, Sir, are the definition of the model ignoramus consumer.

Dude, I was talking of an "iPod like" player just like the Walkman they just announced (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPru8E-tYVo). And who cares if Sony releases a Hi-Res player before Apple. It wound't be the first time Apple launched a similar product/feature after other companies have done it. The fact is that Apple has more chances to bring Hi-Res to the masses than any other company just because they have the most successful music store in the world.

Ah in that case, Sony launched their Hi-Res portable audio players back in October last year:

http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/10/0...-android-powered-walkmans-nw-zx1-and-nw-f880/

I don't care, just wanted to point the facts out to you as you said Apple would 'steal their thunder', and all of the new Z3 models announced at IFA play Hi-Res audio too.

They (Sony) just announced a Hi-Res player this year at IFA. Also, Neil Young will be releasing one that is called "Pono". But Apple has a chance to steal their thunder with an iTunes Hi-Res store and with iPhones that can play the files (currently iPhones and iPods can only play Hi-Res audio up to 16 bit 44khz and the maximum for Hi-Res is 24 bit 192khz)

Man, a lot of haters on here. Ah, they commonly have an artist on here and I think it's a good way to end these events, for a few reasons. A lot of Apple's success recently started with the iPod, music, etc. Also, with Beats, now, sure, they are going to still focus on music and have artists on. At least U2 get's up there and puts on a bit of a show. I am more excited about the other stuff, but I'm expecting to be disappointed some.

Unfortunately, there's no better choice of band to prove Apple are uncool, middle-aged white men than U-bloody-2. Seriously, has no-one at Apple got anybody taste? Good on Jony for using Lemaitre, at least.

As I've said before, this doesn't make any sense. Why build a stage when Flint Center itself (where all the people will already be watching the keynote 100 feet away) is already a large stage and theater with good infrastructure and acoustics to support music (even U2)?

I like your other ideas though, I could see the building being all 3 of those (supposedly it is a 3-story building).

It's called history and legacy you chumps. Some people HAVE meaning and like to refer back to the past and value things PAST - as much as that concept may escape you.

Bono, good on you, you old dog

I just find it annoying when people "hate" something because they're supposed to. If you like or don't like U2, whatever. But the hatred hyperbole is puerile and thoughtless. I personally don't waste a lot of my energy hating things. Hate is a very active word. I simply disregard. I mean, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are way before my time but I wouldn't rant about them being horrible. I'm not a big fan of either (or U2 for that matter... I own War and Joshua and that's it)... but they're not horrible. Kenny G is horrible. Russian circus clown music is horrible. U2 is just U2. Like 'em or not they're one of the biggest bands of all time. That said, it would be nice to see Apple do more work with current artists.

Yeah, of course. Just because U2 is awful and I don't want to see them associated with tomorrow's keynote? Good one.

I bet their last tour tanked.

Their last tour:

Wikipedia said:
On 11 April 2011, Live Nation announced that the U2 360° Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour in history, with ticket sales totalling over $700 million.[112] The tour concluded in July 2011 with a final gross of $736,421,586, and a total attendance of 7,272,046.[113] According to Billboard.com, the final gross and attendance figures for the tour were the highest ever reported to the site.
